Diego Gonzalez seeks to join elite equestrians representing the United States in acclaimed international dressage competitions. To reach this goal he pairs talent, exuberance, and laser-sharp determination with the backing of his team of talented FEI horses. He has the good fortune to partner with two dedicated mentors and the support of his family. Notwithstanding talent, drive and the support of family and friends, Diego continues to face one of the greatest challenges of equestrian sports: the high cost of maintaining equine athletes to compete at the elite level. To lessen the financial pressure of his journey, Diego is pursuing mutually beneficial sponsorships, both monetary and in-kind.

Diego Gonzalez As a young boy, on his parent’s large cattle farm in Mexico, Diego rode Lusitanos working cows through¬out the ranch. At 15 Diego, decided to take his riding to the next level and moved back to his families’ county of origin, Spain, to train with the world famous bullfight¬er Fermin Bohorquez. After learning more about balance and finesse under saddle, Diego returned from Spain and started his career working at top-notch breeding houses and dressage farms. With hands on farm management skills now mastered, Diego struck out on his own to manage a large Lusitano breed-ing house in Mexico and Texas. During this time he seriously started to pursue dressage. During his travels back and forth to Spain to buy horses and train he met Spanish Olympians Juan Manuel Mu¬noz Diaz and Jordi Domingo Coll. Together they are helping to prepare him and his horses (personal and sale horses) for top international competition. With their help and that of close mentor Grand Prix Rider/ Trainer Felicitas Von Neumann-Cosel and sponsors, Diego hopes to one day represent the U.S. in the WEG & Olympics.

A living, breathing art form...

Dressage help keep it alive for generations to come. Dressage; a French word, most commonly translated to mean “training”) is a competitive equestrian sport, defined by the International Equestrian Federation as “the highest expression of horse training”, where “horse and rider are expected to perform from memory a series of predetermined movements.” Competions are held at all levels from amateur to the World Equestrian Games. Its fundamental purpose is to develop, through standardized progressive training methods, a horse’s natural athletic ability and willingness to perform, thereby maximizing its potential as a riding horse. At the peak of a dressage horse’s gymnastic development, the horse will respond smoothly to a skilled rider’s minimal aids. The rider will be relaxed and appear effortless while the horse willingly performs the requested movement. Dressage is occasionally referred to as “Horse Ballet.” Although the discipline has ancient roots in Europe, dressage was first recognized as an important equestrian pursuit during the Renaissance. The great European riding masters of that period developed a sequential training system that has changed little since then. Classical dressage is still considered the basis of modern dressage.
