FABRIC PROJECT CATALOG

Katie O’Shea is an American print and pattern designer living in Northern California. She creates detailed and vibrant patterns and illustrations inspired by flora and fauna, landscapes, and surprising color combinations. With a degree in Graphic Design from the Rhode Island School of Design, Katie has followed her dream of creating artwork rooted in her natural surroundings.

In 2020, she became enamored with designing patterns for fabric and has loved to incorporate detailed illustration with repetition and finding the right flow of a pattern. Katie is deeply inspired by early works of William Morris and the Arts & Crafts movement, as well as her own encounters with nature.

is more intuitive with this collection than intentional. I work best somewhere between a dream state and reality. I love to fall into the zone of drawing while listening to music and let my mind wander. Playing also with contrasting lines and shapes I feel gives the design more dynamic.”

• After cutting your hexies out of your chosen AGF prints, make a ¼ inch mark on the top and bottom corners of all of your hexies. This is a very important step as it will be your guide to where to sew along.

• Make sure to always backstitch at the start and finish to avoid any seams to unravel.

• Never sew past the mark, failing to do so can cause your hexies not to fit as perfectly with each other.

• When applicable, sew your hexies into columns first as it will help you keep your pieces more organized.

• Practice makes perfect. Y-seam can be challenging at first, but once you get the hang of it, you will not want to stop sewing!

“ The story behind this collection is, on daily walks, I was inspired by the transition between Winter and Spring. The coldness that still lingers in the air and the plants and insects coming to life.”

“I used a variation of techniques to design each pattern. They are not all made the same way. I am hugely inspired by William Morris and the layering of leaves and vines twisting and turning.”
