Sidney Nolan’s Ned Kelly Series Foundation members are invited to an exclusive preview of Sidney Nolan’s Ned Kelly series then stay on to join in the official opening event from 7pm. Join us as we celebrate the rebel masterpiece works and the launch of our Rebels, Radicals and Pathfinders series of exhibitions. On short-term loan from the National Gallery of Australia, it’s a rare opportunity to view this renowned series depicting the story of bush outlaw Ned Kelly through Nolan’s bold and expressive sense of landscape and vivid storytelling.

Artistic explorers of a different kind are celebrated in this enlightening series in which Australian and international artists switch between Western Australia’s regions and the Nordic heartlands of Finland, Iceland, Denmark and Sweden – and try to make sense of these dramatic and challenging environments.

Foundation Picture Club In a casual setting our expert Gallery Guides take members on an adventure through art to further develop understanding and appreciation of the treasures in the Gallery. WA NOW: Biomess – The Tissue Culture & Art Project Established by artist Oron Catts, SymbioticA explores the creative and ethical implications of developments in the biological sciences. They investigate what science is doing, what it is capable of, and how our conceptions of life might be altered in the process and how futures might be shaped accordingly.

NEXT COLLECTIVE LAUNCH AGWA is launching a new category of Foundation membership for young professionals aged in their 20s to 40s who share a growing passion for art and in interest in playing an active role in the direction of their State Art Gallery, while developing their professional and social networks. CULTURE JUICE Beyond Bling! Join curator Robert Cook for an afterhours tour as AGWA unlocks the vaults to showcase the best, the bizarre and the most sophisticated of its jewels in its historical, contemporary and Indigenous collections. Moving from bold and captivating wearable art to quiet and subtle, almost private, personal interventions, the show will change how you think about what jewellery is and can be.

AWARDS NIGHT: Black Swan Prize For Portraiture 2018 The immensely popular Black Swan Prize for Portraiture returns to AGWA for the third year – this time in the historic setting of the Centenary Galleries. Established in 2007, this is one of Australia’s richest portraiture prizes, featuring the $50,000 Lester Group 1st Prize, a $10,000 Artist Prize and a $7,500 People’s Choice Award.

Foundation AGM and End of Year Celebration End of year celebration including a private viewing of new works acquired for your State Art Collection as a result of Foundation support.

THURS 13 DEC | 6PM EXHIBITION OPENING

WA Now: Andrew Nicholls – Hyperkulturemia Nicholls’ WA Now solo exhibition will showcase his recent Hyperkulturemia series for WA audiences. This immersive installation will feature performative photographs, beautifully detailed drawings and illustrated ceramics. A playful and powerful meditation on the cultural significance of the European Grand Tour, it will demonstrate Nicholls’ unique way of engaging with contemporary and historical art and modes of being.
