The two questions I get asked the most by people who want my help with Social Media are, "how much time will this take?" and then "how can I get the maximum benefit from Social Media for the least amount of time?" This article is written for you. The number one ingredient for a successful Social Media marketing plan is content so you must schedule the time necessary to produce that content. I plan to post to my Blog 3 times a week and to publish at least 1 article a week in my niche. This takes me anywhere from 2-3 hours of writing time. For the purposes of this article I am assuming you have your content written. Here is the list of the Social Media networking sites you will need to have an account with to begin:

Your Blog (I recommend WordPress): Twitter Facebook Profile Facebook Fan page LinkedIn Pluggins for your WordPress Blog to allow this plan to work:

WP Tags to Technorati Pluggin Twitter Tools Pluggin Social Marker Plug-in Social Bookmarking Sites accounts:

Stumble Upon Digg Delicious Technorati Diigo Services

Pingfm account Tweetlater account Social Marker account

Step1 I always start from the center of my Social Media world and post to my WordPress blog. I have 3 plugins installed there that help push that content out to the other Social Media networks. The Twitter Tools plug-in automatically Tweets any blog post, The WP Tags for Technorti plug-in automatically notifies Technorati when I post and I have the Social Marker plug-in installed which allows my readers can easily bookmark my post to any of the social bookmarking sites I have profiles on. Time Spent 5 minutes Next I read and answer any comments. Then I move to my RSS reader and scan the 5-10 blogs I read on a regular basis to see if I can comment on any of them. To bookmark any posts I like I use the Social Marker application button which is installed on my toolbar. It allows 1 click bookmarking. I also look for posts to send to Stumble Upon because I have not figured out how to add it to any automatic systems yet. On the days I am not posting a blog post I spend the extra time reading and commenting on other blogs. Time Spent 5 minutes Step 2 I then go to Pingfm to update my Status. I only do this once a day because it can look very artificial to have the exact post on all my sites but this a good way to get at least one update everywhere. I have it set up to update my Facebook Fan page, my Facebook profile, Twitter, LinkedIn, Delicious, Digg and Diigo automatically. I try to post something valuable to my niche. Time Spent 5 minutes Step 3 Next I go to my Facebook Fan page. I update my status here at least 3 times a week. I answer comments and use the Share button to send that post out to my profile. Then I go to my Facebook profile and answer all my friend requests, wish friends Happy Birthday and I check and read everything my inbox. I look over my notifications and events and then check my news feed for posts from friends that I can interact with. Time spent 5 minutes for each page for a total of 10 minutes. Step 4 I spend the rest of my time on Twitter as this is where I am getting the most of my website traffic right now. But don't forget the Internet is always evolving so you may need to evolve with it and be ready to change any part of your plan if necessary. I answer any direct messages; thank people for their replies and RTs, and then I try to offer useful information. Time Spent 10 minutes Included in the Twitter time, I go to Tweetlater and schedule 3-4 Tweets that announce any new Blog posts or any articles that have been published. This is also where you can set up an automatic DM to new followers and an auto follow back message if you want one. Don't forget that the more time you spend on Social Media networks the more benefits you will see. This article is only for those days when you have so much going on that 30 minutes is all the time you can give to your Social Media Marketing Plan. For those that can add I know the minutes add up to 35 minutes but I am hoping most of you won't notice that.
