FREEDOM SOARING TOWER
MOUNTAIN SCRAPER
LEANING SKIES
RISING TOWERS “CALM WITHIN A STORM
As a studio art minor, my senior year included an upper division course on Advanced Painting where I specifically chose to emphasis my works on tall, skyscraper type buildings and shapes for the subject. When standing right next to a skyscraper and then looking up, there is something that creates a sense of awe. Staring at it from the bottom up, the top of it just seems to float off into the sky, and looks marvelously endless. When we look at great mountains or other wonders of the world, the same type of sensation is felt. This creates a figurative abstract subject with clean modern lines that help to display monumentalized power. By including a hectic atmospheric like background, the paintings are more visually appealing, and so in later works the exploration of fracturing and abstracting the subject is explored. In parts of the works, a strong contrast between the foreground and background was achieved by my use of light to dark complimentary opposite colors and different types of brushstrokes. While in others, a blend of going in and out of space created an illusion effect that really helped make the painting more interesting. A strong presence of the subject was important, therefore with continuing strong lines on the shell of the building, an emphasis of strength and monumentalism was attained. These elements combined created a surreal impression like painting. THE MIDNIGHT TWO

Since high school, I have been very interested in graphic design. My involvement with Media Communications Academy required learning Adobe design software. That eventually progressed my understanding of how to convey illustrations as a digitally visual form. At Sacramento State, Graphics 25, a core requirement specifically for Graphic Design majors, truly challenged me to improve my craftsmanship first through physical practice with X-Acto knives, paper, and rubber cement to a digital form with Adobe Illustrator.
J OY F U L This shows balance in the slanted curve but then has tension on the right where it seems to be falling together. There is a sense of gracefulness of lines and points within these layers displaying time as slowing down, then moments later when time speeds back up.
NERVOUS Being nervous usually creates tension and uneasiness. Here, the overlay helps to focus the weight on the center area. The large points seem to be coming down more and more closer and creates an idea that it will continue rising.
SOMBER Here in the illustration there are two different sides, one corner with many lines together having a great time, then on the right there is a stronger angle of lines going down. Above, the wider lines appear to be falling and the overlay helps group them together to empasize the additional perspective lines.

ARCHITECTURE W E E K L Y GRAPHICS | MAGAZINE | FALL 2016 An architectural weekly magazine created using Photoshop and Illustrator Adobe design programs. During my visit to New York, I took many pictures of the city, simply with my iPhone. This project includes some of those photos; the Freedom Tower on the cover, Guggenheim Museum on the second page, and the interior space of the Gugghenheim on the third page. The objective was to create a simple magazine that would be visually interesting and clear, and through the use of these photos, though in the background, serve as a springboard for the rest of the design. The cover displays the exterior architecture of the building, and the main theme is thinking beyond the outer shell. Within the magazine, interior architecture is emphasized within a custom reflected ceiling plan and a custom art frame piece.

To create a space that is different from the norm but can still be recognized for its purpose. The core idea behind planning for this design was to create a pavillion that sparks interest to a user from a relative distance. Seeing it from afar, the user becomes curious and then have a desire to go in. A space that is abstract yet still familiar to other structures, and has multiple views and ways to walk in. It includes a change of floor elevation and casts linear light/dark shadows within and outside of the space. An area that is appealing and has a place to move, rest, and view.

On May 12, 2008 the town of Sichuan China had a 7.9 magnitude earthquake that rocked the Chinese province. With the help of Red Cross and government funding, empty shipping containers are sent out in response through railroads as a temporary relief effort. Companies such as these have specialized in quick response relief efforts to provide support and comfort after a devastating incident occurs. They have extensive experience in creating spaces that provide the community with lifes essential needs of survival, a place with aid, food, and a place to rest. The containers wil be called home for the local community for approximately 6-12 months as the area around rebuilds. Each unit holds up to six people inside, with a partition wall in the center. Sleeping, storage, and working areas easily stow away for maximum comfort and functionality.

A 40,000 square foot warehouse is converted into a mixed use space to provide liveable townhouse lofts, a retail space, and a local business within the Sacramento downtown district. This space will suit a new corporate office for an architecture and design firm in midtown Sacramento. Six apartments at approximately 750sq ft each, two with lofts and atria areas, as well as a large open atrium in the center of the building for anyone in the building to use. It provides a more contemporary approach with artificial and natural light throughout. Having an open space will provide orderly collaboration for team projects, the central floor plan is smooth with linear lines and symmetrical. Space includes warm colors with woods and natural materials. The lighting will be minimal since most rooms will have windows and privacy will be important in certain areas and will have sound insulated walls.

This project began with one main goal, sustainable green design. This meant that several challenges had to be tackled, environmental impact, economic cost, social effect, quality of products, & the timing to develop the project. The design starts with the shell of the building of four abandoned shipping containers from the Roseville Railyard. Stacked together, a spiral staircase leads the way to a second floor, to increase floor space to approximately 1,000sq ft. Every material was hand selected for it’s specific purpose. From the reclaimed wood directly through Anderson Lumber LLC, lighting by Lofings, and Herman Miller furniture with Miles Treaster & Associates We Care program, we were able to directly support family owned local business’.

An old railway building is repurposed to serve as a museum in the old town Sacramento.
A museums primary focus is to bring interest and recognition to certain people or things, and my design approach will include ways of keeping the user engaged and curious in a enjoyable learning environ- ment. The customers attending will range from children to adults, and certain exhibits will be geared towards those demographics. In the design, I hope to create a grid or central open floor plan, with museums running along the sides of the walls, and in the center.

The primary focus of this project was to remodel Sacramento’s Valley Station into a Sacramento Museum, by incorporating five different museums together in a innovative way. Each gallery space and exhibit type will be redesigned, and will have a list of objects on display. Other functionalities will need to be considered as well, including determining the needs of and design for the non display areas of the museum.

JP Morgan & Chase has had a traditional way of doing things, however recent trends in banks have pushed for contemporary styles. In my design, I propose a blend of modern and traditional styles for Chase to have a superior advantage above it’s community. The goal of this project was to provide the
client with a plan on how they can organize their Bank and Regional Offices. The client would open their business in a multi-story building in Roseville, CA. In the process of planning the space, I began with preliminary steps, including getting a greater understanding of what the client needed, finding out what the main spaces of the building were, how many employees they needed in each space, and where customers were and were not allowed entry. Planning included making sure the customer felt relaxed, and confident in the the bank knowing that their money and information would be secure. Since customers provide personal information, many of the spaces have to be enclosed and quiet. While these spaces remain private, many other areas have a living office atmosphere, encouraging open collaboration in a lively engaging environment. The use of a curve will help in engaging the customers interest in also having this living experience.

Living Of fice is a high-perfor ming wor kplace that delivers an elevated experience of wor k for people, and helps organizations ac hieve their strategic goals.
This concept allows for individuals to work together on team activities. A border partition can easily be set in place in between if the environment needs more of an enclosed space.
This type of workplace is intended for more quiet, focused work. Espescially since it would be used by a manager or supervisor, many private discussions may take place as well as other confidential tasks.

A warehouse is repurposed to provide an artist market, deli area, and rentable maker studios. Using a tree and railroad track as a metaphor, the idea of spatial relationship between spaces will travel along one central pathway. Similar to how trains have specific stops, and trees branch out into separate areas, visitor’s will walk along one linear route, and divert off when something sparks their curiosity. Generally markets are outdoors, with an open ceiling and mezzanine that translates to the first floor this will provide air as well as natural light with interesting shadows throughout the space.
