In this report I'm going to encourage you to do something that almost nobody ever does. I'm going to encourage you to forget about our dreams. Stop reaching for the stars. Get your head out of the clouds.
Why would I do such a thing? Because if you're reading this then one of your dreams probably involves huge numbers of visitors flowing in from some major keyword that you've managed to rank for in Google, bringing you wealth and success in your business. Wake up from that dream my friend.
It's time to stop thinking big and start thinking SMALL.
As is my way, I wouldn't suggest doing this if I didn't have the numbers to backup why it's a good idea. So let's get right into it.

WHAT IS A LONG-TAIL KEYWORD? In the title of this report I mention “Long-Tail Profits”. Do you know what I mean when I say “long-tail”? I'm talking about keywords that people search for in Google.
There's no exact definition for “long-tail”, but I tend to think of them as any keywords that have four or more words in them.
For instance, these keywords are not long tail:

Each of those keywords get a lot of searches in Google every month – 60k, 40k and 200k searches respectively.
HAVE FUN TRYING TO RANK FOR THOSE KEYWORDS – AIN'T GONNA HAPPEN!
Unless you really know what you're doing and have a lot of resources to pour into ranking for those kinds of keywords, you can pretty much give up on the dream of getting (and staying) in the top few results for those keywords. Not only will it

take a huge amount of time, energy and money to rank – staying on top of the rankings will be hard because of how fierce the competition is.
These keywords, however, are “long-tail” keywords: internet marketing jobs from home los angeles search engine optimization 30 year level term life insurance rates
These keywords don't get nearly as much traffic as the ones on the previous page. In fact they only get 170, 210 and 30 monthly searches respectively. So why would you want to try and rank for them?
Let's talk about that.

WHY RANK FOR LONG-TAIL KEYWORDS Like I said, long-tails don't get nearly as much traffic as their “big brother” keywords. So why would you want to rank for them at all? Here's three great reasons why:
1.
They're much easier to rank for.
The most obvious reason you want to target long-tail keywords like this is that they're simply much easier to rank for (and stay ranked for). Less traffic generally means less competition, which means a lot less effort on your part to make it into the top 3 results in Google. For some really long tail keywords you don't have to get any links at all! Just having the keywords naturally on the page a couple of times does the trick.
2.
They're much more targeted.
Let's say you could rank for “life insurance” – there are dozens of kinds of life insurance! You have no idea what the person landing on that page is really looking for (and it's quite possible they don't know either). That means much lower conversion rates because the traffic just isn't targeted. With long-tail keywords you know exactly what the searcher is looking for and can make sure that your page gives them just that. This means much higher conversion rates. Less traffic, yes, but a much higher Earnings Per Visitor (EPV) value.

One page can often rank for multiple long-tail keywords.
Getting a page ranked for one difficult set of keywords is hard enough, but two or three or more? Forget it! Not so with long-tails. Having three or so long-tail keywords naturally woven into the content of the page often results in multiple rankings. That gives you a greater Return On Investment (ROI) for your time and efforts.
Now let's do some math to prove that it's worth ranking for these keywords. Let's say that you wrote one article a day for a year – that's 365 articles – and posted them to your site. And let's say that each article targeted 3 long-tail keywords. Even if you only averaged 20 visitors per month per long-tail, that's about 22,000 visitors a year.
That may not sound like a whole lot until you start to think about how targeted these keywords are. A typical conversion rate for most products is about 1% – so one visitor in a hundred will buy what they're selling. But with this kind of razortargeted traffic you can expect much higher conversion rates.
Match these super-targeted keywords up with a very targeted offer and conversion rates of 5% or better are not unusual. Twenty-two thousand visitors with a 5% conversion rate means 1,100 sales in a year. If you have a product that generates $50 in profit – that's $55,000 just from the initial sales.
Get your customers on your email list and that's just a SMALL part of the profit pie you'll be munching on. That's because it's much easier to sell follow-up

products to somebody once they've already bought from you. If they like what you have to offer they'll buy again (and again, and again...)
Accomplishing the same thing from less targeted traffic that only converts at 1% would take fives times as much traffic – or 110,000 annual visitors. Are you starting to see why long-tails are so beneficial to your bottom line?
But of course you won't stop creating content after that first year. You'll create more and more and more. And here's the thing about that: every now and then you'll end up with a runaway success page that gets a lot more traffic than you were expecting. Those traffic-spiking pages often add significantly to your bottom line.
Before I wrap this up, there's one more thing I want to say about a specific kind of long-tail keyword...

LOCAL LONG-TAILS ARE YOUR FRIEND Remember the one long-tail example I gave you that had the name of a city in it?

That's a “local long-tail” because it targets a specific location. Ranking for local keywords like that is even easier as a rule than ranking for other long-tails, but still benefits from being highly targeted and valuable! Having pages that target specific locations can be a great way to generate leads and sales without going through the never-ending struggle of ranking for “big brother” keywords.

TOPICAL ARTICLES NOT KEYWORD STUFFING! Just a word of warning here. I'm not advocating you stuff long-tails into an article where they don't belong. No way!
What I'm saying you do is create a quality article based on a general topic but put in related, relevant long-tails where they naturally fit into the article. That's the kind of content that will rank for long-tails.
So the next time you sit down to create an article for your site, try not to think big: think small instead and profit from those easy-to-rank-for, highly targeted long-tails.
