ORGANISING COMMITTEE Chairman of the Organizing Committee Giorgos Paradisis, Associate Professor, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki
KEYNOTE SPEAKER José Calbet Las Palmas de Gran Canaria University, Spain
SCOPE Exercise biochemistry and physiology is a very active field of scientific endeavor, which, over the past half-century, has contributed immensely to our understanding of how muscle activity alters the way our bodies (and those of other animals) function. The 9th Conference of Biochemistry and Physiology of Exercise aspires to become an important scientific forum where researchers, students, and other scholars in sport science from Greece and other countries meet, present their findings, exchange ideas, and network with peers.
TOPICS • Exercise biochemistry and molecular biology • Exercise physiology • Applications of training in sports • Clinical exercise physiology and health • Sport nutrition

Accepted submissions will be presented as oral or poster presentations and will be published in the conference proceedings. Publication of Abstracts in a Special Issue of Proceedings Authors are given the option to have their abstracts published in a special issue of Proceedings (https://www. mdpi.com/journal/proceedings/events/10183). Publication is free of charge for up to 40 abstracts that will receive the highest rating during the review process. For the publication of additional abstracts, authors will be asked whether they agree to pay a minimal cost. Publication of Papers in a Special Issue of Sports Following an agreement with the open-access journal Sports, which is indexed in PubMed (https://www.ncbi. nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/?term=2075-4663), the Hellenic Society of Biochemistry and Physiology of Exercise offers authors the opportunity to submit the work they will present at the Conference to a special issue of the journal (https://www.mdpi.com/journal/sports/special_issues/9GCBPE) as a full paper. If accepted, papers will receive a discount depending on the rating of the corresponding abstract during presentation, as follows:
• The first 9 papers will receive a discount of 82,5% (the cost will be 175 Swiss Francs). • Additional papers will receive a discount of 20% (the cost will be 800 Swiss Francs). Submission Instructions Please email your abstract to eevfa@artion.com.gr as a Word file attachment. Please indicate the following in your message:
• Your preferred topic (one of the five listed above) • Your preferred type of presentation (oral or poster) • The capacity of the 1st author (student, faculty etc.) • Whether the work has been presented at another conference • Whether you wish to have your abstract published in the special issue of Proceedings free of charge After acceptance, registration of the 1st author is mandatory for the abstract to be included in the program. Please note the following:
• The main text of the abstract should not exceed 350 words. • No citations are allowed. • No tables or graphs are allowed. • Literature reviews are not acceptable. However, meta-analyses are. Please abide by the style shown in the example.

EXAMPLE OF ABSTRACT EFFECTS OF α-LIPOIC ACID SUPPLEMENTANTION ON SOMATOMETRIC CHARACTERISTICS AND EXERCISE PERFORMANCE IN ADULTS WITH G6PD DEFICIENCY K. Georgakouli,1 A.D. Flouris2 1 Laboratory of Exercise Physiology, School of Physical Education and Sport Science, University of Thessaly, Trikala, Greece 2 FAME Laboratory, School of Physical Education and Sport Science, University of Thessaly, Trikala, Greece ΑΙΜ: It has been speculated that G6PD deficient individuals may be more susceptible to oxidative stress, leading to decreased tolerance to exercise. Alpha-lipoic acid (α-LA) supplementation could ameliorate the effects of exercise-induced oxidative stress and enhance muscle regeneration. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of α-LA supplementation on anthropometric characteristics and acute exercise performance in individuals with G6PD deficiency. MATERIAL & METHOD: Eight adults with G6PD deficiency participated in this randomized double-blind placebo-controlled crossover trial. All participants received α-LA (600 mg/ day) or placebo for 4 weeks in random order, separated by a 4-week washout period. Before and at the end of each phase, anthropometric characteristics (weight, body mass index, fat mass, lean mass) were measured. Moreover, participants exercised on a treadmill at an intensity corresponding to 70-75% of their VO2max for 45 min and then at 90% of their VO2max until exhaustion. RESULTS: No significant change in any anthropometric characteristic or time to exhaustion was observed after each phase (p > 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: α-LA supplementation for 4 weeks did not influence changes in body composition or exercise performance in G6PD individuals.
