Cora “Nikki” Davis, Azure Abuela - Azure Abuela was put together by combining a combinations of blue with white acrylic paints and a pouring medium during a cold rainy night in Alabama in the USA. Like most of my art, depression and anger fueled me as I began to paint. The end result reminded me of a grandmother with a ponytail, hence the name Azure Abuela!

Serdar Uzar, The Sprinkler - The idea came to me during summer 2022 when there was a heatwave in the United Kingdom and the public were given a hosepipe ban, so unable to water their gardens. I wanted to create a design combining elements of water, sun and a rainbow. This piece was inspired by the simple mechanism of a water sprinkler and the mesmerising shapes created. I imagined each shape represents a water drop, shooting from a sprinkler and the colours bursting like a rainbow when sun light hits water drops. The artwork is created using rolled, shaped paper strips and quilling techniques.

Aleksandra Vujovic Maca, Just Pablo P - I don’t paint with colors, I paint with feeling. What does it look like when the heart thinks, talks, draws and paints? And it infallibly knows. It is always unframed and lined with leather. It is eternal. Authentic. Landscape and portrait at the same time. Is it visible to the eye? We have been drawing since birth, and for us drawing is a way of talking. Heart is everything, nothing can be done without heart. Courage, passion and strong determination to turn a vision into reality. An idea of the imagination, a plan of the mind and a work of the heart. Inspiration. A special attitude towards life, lightness of life, curiosity, optimism, belief that everything is attainable and possible, burning for what is loved, absence of fear.

Steve Jensen, VOYAGER - For me, the boats are meant to symbolize a voyage or journey, perhaps it is the voyage to the other side or a journey into the unknown. My parents are from Norway. My father was a fisherman. My grandfather was a fisherman. My other grandfather was a boat builder. Upon the death of both of my parents, I made a boat for their ashes and buried them at sea. Something like a contemporary Viking funeral. I also made a boat for my best friend and former partner of 24 years, again burying them at sea. These deaths were extremely tragic. My best friend died of AIDS, my father committed suicide, my mother fell apart emotionally and physically and my former partner from alcoholism.

K.D, Familiarity - As an artist and photographer who uses both traditional and digital methods I like to create and explore using my own elements in my work. Familiarity is a mixed media collage inspired by everyday familiar things- colors, letters, marks, writing, textures, numbers and vintage paper. The lettering and numbers were created using graphic design methods. The marks and brushstrokes are from a set of personalized brushes and textures I created. All these were then blended to form a collage unified and composed of the elements mentioned above.

Luciana FREMAUX, Glory be to God (in the highest) - 2022 - I see a place in the cosmos, like a temple, a golden altar that floats in the clouds, inside I distinguish luminous characters. I hear a song, it glorifies the manifestation of divine goodness in Creation: It glorifies it for the rain, for the sun, for the earth, for the sea and for all that exists, for life itself is really a gift. Could it be a cosmic representation of the throne of God? I feel that we are all connected to this place, the access is found deep within the soul.

Inbar Shahar, Deep Blue - “The eye is the window to the soul”. Radial composition applying layers of pigments and acrylic paint soaked in resin and glass chips. Searching for the secret of this gigantic infinite ocean of universe. They say that life is like the ocean, sometimes it’s stormy and sometimes it’s calm. Using contradictory colors and complementing colors melding into each other. Why are we here? looking for answers in a vast infinite ocean of universe.

Alec Smithers, La Bouche - This piece was my attempt to combine a bright, colorful Pop-esque & almost plastic-like aesthetic juxtaposed with an eerily distorted representation of a disembodied mouth. This serves to contrast that colorful & bright appearance with an enigmatic theme. This was done as a sensual & organic look into the contrasts of the modern world. Humans are simply animals that have obscured many of those animalistic traits with technology, but they’re still there, as evidenced by the violence, greed, and xenophobia that is so pervasive in our society. I feel that highlighting these challenges is a step towards mitigating those problems. Discover More - Instagram: @alec_smithers_art artist

Yung-wu, Ooljima III - While working through a set of pieces that felt cohesive emotionally but not visually, the phrase “ooljima” (울지마) came to me: a Korean phrase that directly translates to “don’t cry”. The Ooljima series showcases a pervasive cultural norm to subdue or suppress your (big) emotions in Korean culture. Ooljima III embodies the suppression of grief — a Pandora’s box of festering fear, embarrassment, and fury. Artistic Mansi, Houston - This beautiful piece was the outcome of my dreams of wandering around the hot volcano of Hawaii. The colors were filled with my imagination and how the sky appeared during those days when the massive change in climate took place. This also comes as an outcome of mother nature showing its travesty on the earth with climate change and the world still struggling to learn the importance of nature. I try to bring my imagination to life with my surroundings and how it appears. My love for gems and gold also get portraits in my artwork which differentiate different layers of work. The resin on top gives an immersive mirror to the work and protects it from weathering.

Sarmite Lasmane, Abstract Desert and Camels - The inspiration for this tactile tufted art rug comes from the Brick House designed by Caruso St John Architects in London, looking at the play of light and shadow as the sun shines through the windows and creates shadows of different shapes. This cosy rug got its name from my association with warm and sunny weather, and camel caravans in the desert. Whether spread out on the floor or hung on the wall, its appeal does not change. Rug size is 3X5ft (90X150cm).

Joanne Huxford, METRO - I began two years ago at the age of 66 years old so I would say a late bloomer. I use many alternate styles of art and different mediums. I go to the gamut from traditional abstract Street art and digital art. I was a freelance photographer for many years digital art gave me the feeling of the dark room experience. My art art mixes a certain feeling of fantasy and surrealism alongside a certain force with strong color and bold strokes. I love New York City. I love the feeling of New York City, the Energy the sparkle color power. In the context of METRO I tried to capture this feeling alongside the feeling of being trapped INSIDE CITY SCAPES skyscrapers : with the chains.

Elizabeth Colazo, El Asombro - This piece represents the innate capacity of the human being to be amazed by life itself. It is an invitation to allow oneself to be surprised, escape the routine, and connect from our inner innocence to nature. Being amazed is a pure act of the soul, and as observed in the painting, we become fresh while being amazed. It is a simple reminder for the human being to not lose the connection to this pure emotion.

Denisa Mansfield, The Telephone - Denisas’ artwork is known for her exploration of nature, identity and design using impasto techniques with oil paint. Her meaningful work delves into her own interpretation of forms and characteristics of evocative subject matters that relate to her life and her surroundings. Mansfields’ avant garde work is strongly influenced by traditional art movements that push the boundaries of the norm, such as neoclassicism, post-impressionism and abstract cubism. Often envisioning her art with a subtle structure and unravelling simplicity in her approach, her art is made through many emotions, ideology and it reflects through the choice of colours and execution.

Alison Dollery, Body as a Canvas 2022 - The work is a photographic piece of the performance/body art of a manufactured body using the artist’s body as the material, as a painting and in the drawings. How do we take responsibility for our material bodies? My work explores the body as the material within an interdisciplinary practice that expands fields of drawing, painting, performance art and the body. I use my body as a canvas to collapse the space between my body as an object and subject to form an open conversation on body image, body perceptions and the life model. I am further exploring the material reality of our body’s weight, social construction and performativity - the Manufactured Body Exhibition 2023 details at www.manufacturedbody.com. Discover

Julie Stephan, One sunny day - At the very beginning of spring on a most beautiful day, I had an urge to paint outside. To be more precise, I set up my easel in my front yard. The day was just a little chilly but the sun was bright and warm enough to keep the goose bumps away. I painted for hours that felt like minutes and when I was finished this most wonderfully warm, passionate, colorful painting appeared. I still get the same feeling of that day when I look at it.

DOI COIMBRA, SINTESI COMPLESSA - (A COMPLEX SYNTHESIS) - In this canvas many extremes coexist in the same space: order and confusion, uniformity and individuality, shades of colors that seem to want to escape something and contours which are instead defined and decisive, authenticity and intrigue. The shapes that are created on the canvas seem to be able to imagine movement; sometimes more veiled and forced, others more confident and intentional. Movements that can metaphorically mean the proactive impetus for the basis of a comparison, an evaluation, an observation, a path, a grip of cognizance.

DOI COIMBRA, ESTUARIO - (ESTUARY) - This canvas brings to my mind a rivers estuary, which approaches the sea between two peninsulas, so close almost touching, but very different. One is barer and flatter, the other shows lush, chaotic vegetation. The action of the riverbed is twofold: to the soil it represents division, to the water it corresponds to union, driving the river’s water to the sea. Division and union can be seen as two approaches of human being. Sometimes we make choices resembling the construction of barriers (as between the peninsulas in the painting), while other times we are more accommodating, as is the flow of water enriching with mineral salts before meeting the sea. Tessa Teixeira, You are already inside this - My artwork responds to existential philosophical views and is currently exploring climate change challenges we all face with increased global temperatures. This work reflects on Timothy Morton’s views that “You cannot ‘see’ global warming. You only see snapshots of what is a very complex plot of a superset of algorithms that is executing themselves in high dimensional phase space.” He says that the intensity of expressionist painting, poetry, music thus expresses something about hyper objects more effectively than any analytical, scientific document can’. I chose Acrylic paint as a metaphor for our reliance on fossil fuel extraction.

Luciana FREMAUX, Ode to nature (Amazonia) - 2022 - I see the different manifestations of nature that connect with each other. I feel the power of the Forest and the rivers which are the orchestra conductors in this environment and the depths of the earth in permanent boiling. Ink and paint converge in my art where I infuse strong tones, rapid mark making and negative space to create artful urban scenes. Urbanism is pivotal to my inspiration. Francesca Greenstreet, Barbican, gouache on watercolour paper 39x49cm - In this work I depict the view from the Barbican conservatory in central London. This piece is all about balance and architectural harmony. The harshness of brutalism contrasts with the candy-coloured sky and CMYK palette of the piece. The two tall concrete skyscrapers loom over the frail tree growing between them. The bright cream colours burst out of dark shadows and in the windows little specks of reflected sunlight brighten the darkness of the foreground. I wanted to show a light and playful side to brutalist architecture, reimagining it in a world of colour and playfulness.

Sherry Karver, On the Path of Remembrance - This work is from my series “Missing Pieces of the Puzzle”. Often in life, and especially since Covid, people have missed things they once took for granted: seeing family and friends, eating in restaurants, traveling, etc.

My work represents our searching for the missing pieces in our lives, or in the world, and the realization that not all the pieces can be found and resolved. We need to accept what is not there, and know the missing parts could be open spaces for something new to enter the picture.

Peter Domanic, Formally known as space - A playful installation of digital prints that provokes to play with your understanding of space and identity of that space. While all the work appears as a fully digitally created artwork, that is not the case. The images are produced utilising digital photography and real-life physical sculptures in a space which then get printed and mounted onto a range of printing media and supports. Then they end up playing with the space again. This process will not end there, the produced image will be used as a backdrop again, producing another range of prints which will then furthermore play with the space they are positioned in. This process allows the artist to never face the issue of blank canvas.

Danute TAYACH, Toucans in the flowers or Self-confidence - Size of the artwork is 81 x 54 cm, year of creation - 2022. Sam B. Kennedy, Two for Joy - I am interested in the relationship between humans and animals- how our manmade environment impacts the wildlife around us, and vice versa. I wanted the piece to convey energy, and to bring together elements of nature, chaos, structure, and tension. I count magpies religiously, according to the superstitious tale (one for sorrow, two for joy), so this piece has a special significance for me. To me, magpies are a symbol of fate and freedom. I started by creating a textured background, recreating a graffitiridden wall. Bright pops of spray paint direct the eye around the page in an angular motion. I then build up layers of inks and acrylics, before finishing with oils.

Olga Goldina Hirsch, I Want Your Polka Dots Dress! - Looking at the world with the honesty of a child is one of the prerogatives of the artist. Children do not always understand what is happening in the adult world, but they feel things subtly and experience the upset and happiness of adults. It is terrible to wake up every morning, read about bombings and death, realizing you are part of it even if you were just born and raised there, and that your past is crossed out. There is a protective childish reaction emerging on your canvas, strange images, an attempt to say something important for yourself.

Eric Paxton, The MidWife - The idea for the painting came from a dream I had in an airport hotel. I dreamt the name alone of a painting...”A Woman giving birth to a Devil, giving birth to an Angel”. When I reached home I spent about 48 hrs and completed the painting on a 4’x8’ wood panel. The name appears in Latin. Talya Akpinar, Baklava & Wine - This piece is an imaginary table-landscape setting, a joyful union of my pensive fantasies and cultural heritage in one frame. Although the single slice of traditional baklava dessert, a heavenly delight coated in crushed pistachios, is meant to be enjoyed by one; the surrounding glasses of wine suggest that in this painting it is shared by two. This table is enjoyed by those who can dream and admire the whimsy of life. Blueberries are rolling around the table as though they have somewhere to be, in unison with the cherries that are the sweet witness to this romantic rendezvous.

Rebecca Moss Guyver, Observing the Sound - I am inspired by what is around me, and the flowers in my garden are often a starting point for the colour study aspect of any still life I arrange. But for a still life to be more than an assemblage of objects, I must feel its meaning. These days my paintings are as much about the story they evoke as the shapes, relationships, colours, marks and patterns they are made of. I collect objects at charity shops and carboots that live in my studio waiting to become characters in a painting drama.

Rebecca Moss Guyver, Tiptoe the Cat - This painting began with the colour yellow and the cat figurine that I had bought (for 50 pence) at a local charity shop. I still had flowers in the garden which I arranged. I considered Mary Fedden and Elizabeth Blackadder as I worked. The process felt like I was tuning an instrument: I refined relationships, pace, marks and colour. Until the end, I wasn’t sure who the dominant character would be, but finally had to admit that ‘tiptoe’ stole the show.

Kara Manza, Tubing Babes - Tubing Babes, a mixed media painting on gallery wrapped canvas, is 152 cm x 76 cm (60” x 30”). It is one of seven paintings in my Water Babe Collection. The entire collection was created to evoke joy and whimsy. Tubing Babes was inspired by my love of friendship and joy, especially experienced in and around the water. My painting includes an underpainting of multiple layers of acrylic, stenciling, and the use of a Sharpie China Marker to create dimension and texture in the sky, water and my exaggerated figures. My goal is to bring a smile to your face because everyone, from birth to 100, deserves original art.

Hannah Williams, Reckless Proclivity, I wanted to capture the essence for how it feels emotionally to emerge from sadness or mourning into a space of hope and strength. The rigid contrast from blue to pink is purposefully dramatic to represent the sadness being transformed by the fire with the two burning roses. From the fire, there is smoke that carefully swirls around the face offering a sense of renewal intersected with watery tears that pull you down the canvas. You can get lost in her eyes or notice the range in textures.

Emma Maher, Connection - Emma Maher is a watercolour artist and illustrator based in Edinburgh. She studied Printmaking and Contemporary Practice at Limerick School of Art & Design, Ireland achieving a BA Honours degree. This piece titled ‘Connection’ incorporates both watercolour and digital collage and was inspired by human connection and our sense of belonging. Floral elements and interlocked hands embrace within the piece symbolising regrowth in nature, within ourselves and the connections we choose to welcome into our lives. Two hands join together in a delicate embrace strengthening this sense of belonging, connection and the power we embody together.

Efthymios P. Pournaras, Silence is GOLD - Sometimes it’s better to keep your future in secrecy... Sometimes, silence is pure GOLD... Inspired from the well-known Latin proverb “SILENTIUM EST AUREUM”. The giant figure of a young girl stands still in the center of the composition, having broken through the paper-thin surface of the ground colored with various hues of gold. She holds her finger against her lips, ready to whisper “shhhhhh....!!!!” and her hair locks are defying gravity, reminding us the young people who traditionally react against the status quo. Behind her, a modern city is sleeping in tranquility. When everyone rests, the creative mind is working tirelessly all night long. The genius personality is unstoppable just like the water.

Kalopsia Wiz, Breath - Our earth is our only home. Our environment is filled with pollution which indicates the girl wearing masks with tiny plants portraying inhalation of clean and pure oxygen. Global warming is the main cause of forest fires which causes innumerable loss of trees. In order to avoid this and protect our home, we need to turn to afforestation.

Here, the galaxy symbolizes the search for another planet in order to survive.

Suchi Chidambaram, Converge - I’m struck by the power of gatherings and the energy they radiate. This painting attempts to capture the collective spirit of every being as they converge into a crowd. Each individual is depicted with a stroke of thick oil paint that becomes part of a larger group, suggested by rapid palette knife marks with the use of rich, strong colour. These convey the rhythm and directional flow of a swarming crowd and the patterns they make as they radiate towards a focus. Every mark that makes up an individual is unique and significant to the collective power of the crowd.

Veronica Chandler, Inner Goddess self-portrait - After the birth of my second child, I struggled greatly with post-partum depression. It got to a point where I knew I needed to start my journey to recovery. During this time in 2019, I was on a trip to Arizona where I discovered my first kachina dolls. I was immediately drawn to them. Their beautiful symbolism captivated me as I saw representations of healing, blessings from a higher power, a connection to nature, and a portrayal of the strength and empowerment of women. These dolls helped me feel bonded to my heritage of my native country, Ecuador, where their indigenous people are also an integral part of the national culture. Kachina dolls were exactly what my soul needed.

Yuting Wang, Start of Spring - This painting is one of the series “24 Solar Terms”. Based on traditional Chinese lunisolar calendar, the 24 solar terms were created by farmers in ancient China to guide the agricultural activities and stay synchronized with the season. Start of Spring is the first solar term of the year. The idea of this series started with my own journey of reconnecting to my inner self and the nature. My intend for these paintings are to share my joys and knowledge along this journey, to inspire and encourage others to see more beauty in their surroundings and to synchronize with the rhythm of life. The painting is created with rather traditional watercolor techniques- layering of colors, wet-in-wet to create soft edges, removal of color.

Karyna Aslanova, Connection - A piece from a larger project New Ukrainian Values, an on-going project that has gained its life due to the russian aggression against Ukraine and has opened many eyes on what’s really important in our short and absolutely unpredictable lives. It is true answers to the question ‘What is valuable now?’ from real people from Ukraine. The compositions of the images are built in such a way as to resemble shrines and religious ceremonies, something so valuable and vital and held above all else. Being a Ukrainian artist living abroad I realised that most of all I want my art and creativity to be helpful, to start and continue a dialogue leading to creative and positive actions.

Brandon Clarke, Contours - Along our journey, each contour from life carves out a landscape for the way we navigate through pain, love, and triumph. In this piece, the white lines running through the canvas poetically diagram the unconventional paths we all take within the framework of our lives. This artistic statement is done on the back of the painting, to literally and metaphorically imply the question of, “Who are we really within the framework of our lives?” Draped across the wooden framework is a partially stretched canvas, representing the façade we show people. The black and white color choice on the front of the canvas is formed with an elegant stroke to state the simplicity of the answers we seek.

Alaa Khalifa, Personal Branding - What we choose to represent us should reflect what we are, which is why I chose to use the Ace of Spades. Traditionally, the Ace of Spades is the most powerful and most valued card in the deck – and therefore, I chose it to represent myself and my devotion to triumph and success. Violet is the color of creativity and bravery – colors I chose to reflect my fearless approach to challenges and willingness to bend the rules to create memorable work. As a whole, my branding aims to project one message – if you chose me, you chose the winning card.

Pedro Sousa Louro, Chicago magic Fridays - A textural tangibility is immediately evident in Pedro Sousa Louro’s work. Earthy and material-focused, an unassuming beauty is found within the play between dark woods and a muddied palette. Furthermore, geometry plays a crucial role here, as clean white lines converse with blocks of muted colour. There is an almost archival, collage-like approach to applying materials and hues. It is as if Sousa Louro has assumed the archaeologist role, unearthing forgotten history layers. Despite his preferences for contemporary artists like Francis Bacon and Ben Nickolson. His reminiscence comes from the “neoplasticism” of Mondrian, Robert Rauschenberg, and in some way, Picasso.

Suzanne Dionne-Coster, Qui es-tu? Ilha de Mozambique, 2022 - This artwork was created from an INSTAGRAM collaboration with a photographer (Matthieu Rivart). The goal was to create a painting from an instagram conversation with the artist-photographer Rivart, in order to imagine a conversation with two young children playing on the streets of the Ilha of Mozambique. “Qui es-tu?” was created with thoughts of hope for all children of the world who, unfortunately don’t all have equal access to basic necessities of life, but still find a way and a place to play. I am celebrating their play with my own playing with colours, imagining rocks and dirt of gold, walls washed with bright reds and blues, and complexe skin tones being born out of all primary colours.

Edina Soós, Wayout - My art seeks to answer the question of how far it is possible to express ideas with abstract forms, beyond the evocation of emotions. How much of a form has to be shown to evoke an idea, an intuitive thought or any kind of meaning in the recipient. My work balances on the borderline between non-figurative and figurative modes of representation, for me it is about the balance between concealment and revelation. My ambition is to find that delicate, elusive balance point that both evokes a recognition-like experience in the viewer and at the same time deeply touches him.

Miriam Traher, Outside The Lines - Our mark is our thumbprint that is identifiable and unique to us. This piece is not about what is seen but what is discovered and remembered. In part, it’s about the enormity of being. Tomorrow, the sun will come up. Grass grows on a manicured lawn or a crack in the pavement. We are all small “things” in this world of ours. So we colour our hair, pierce and decorate our bodies and spray graffiti to stake a small piece of real estate in what we call life. We leave our mark behind. Outside the lines is about staking my place, one artwork at a time and connecting with others through visual language.

Birke Dedig, Daydreaming - Daydreaming“ is a reflection of the hidden things our soul longs for, the things that seem out of reach, like a dream. Light, but also strong colours, different textures & layers and small & big brushstrokes reflect this. Rebecca Bradbury, Blinded by the Old Crows - Blinded by the Old Crows comes from the fact that crows like to collect shiny objects. The concept is that our senses (seeing, hearing, touch, taste etc…) are shiny and valuable. The old crows will do anything to impair your senses with intentions of you seeing, smelling, hearing, and feeling exactly what they want you to. Your time honing in on your senses is what is valuable to them, and they will always try to blind your best intentions with theirs.

Stephanie Swilley, Freedom - Freedom was created using pastels on paper as a way of exploring my relationship to labels and the boxes we find ourselves in. I have always railed against anything that felt like it would fit a label and force me into a box, often denying truths about myself as a result. I fought against my “domestic” inclinations because I didn’t want to be just a mom. I struggled to unify my beliefs and values of science, art, and a journey back to pagan roots into one cohesive label. As a result, I spent much of my life uncertain where I fit in because I was also forcing others into boxes in my mind.

Like girls, children, and women, their color contrasts with the chador of scribbles, drawings showing identity, a code of empowerment, and religiosity contextualized and linked to the family in cultural diversity. Miroslav Kotora - The central leitmotif of these four paintings is a figure. First one 24 hours in the life of a certain woman was awarded in the competition Artistic Spectrum. The second in line Blind man’s buff painted as trial and error and in the blindness of lines and colors I discovered some figures and why this children’s game name? Maybe life itself is also somehow one big game. Next one Women from WDK captures women from the Wojewódzki House of Culture (WDK) in Rzeszów,Poland, where I had a solo exhibition in 2020.The last one Castaway was supposed to be completely different, but I discovered a bird’s beak in the picture and I just finished it.

Miroslav Kotora, In the pub (U Hrocha) - The painting U Hrocha, dimensions 110 x 110 cm, acrylic on canvas was created spontaneously after one of my many visits to the beloved city of Prague and captures the indescribable and wonderful atmosphere of one of the most famous and sought-after Czech pubs. Jennifer Warren, Self Portrait [THUG] - This self-portrait is proof that I can do more than I give myself credit for. I AM more than I give myself credit for. I’m not sure what exactly drove me to want to create this piece. Maybe the heartbreak, feelings of inadequacy, the depression and defeat that I was experiencing at the time. I felt as though I was losing my sense of self and I was being betrayed by my thoughts. I needed to see myself as the person I was before all of this ache had set in. Before my heart was attacked with the illusion of being in love only to find that I was and had always been alone.

Violeta Lopez Martin, Blood Moon - Feminist themed artwork created digitally using Photoshop. My artwork features diverse female characters. In this case the artwork talks to the connection between the divine feminine, the power of the moon and periods. Periods are still such a taboo topic in mainstream society as well as a main point in feminist narrative that tackles period poverty, pink tax, and the severely lacking medical knowledge surrounding female health in general. One thing we can do, as artists and women, is break the taboo and tap into our power by bringing this totally natural and incredible cycle to the light...of the moon.

Noreen Walsh, Hardy Little Banksia - As an immigrant transplanted from the cold, wet Northern Hemisphere, I am constantly fascinated by the many beautiful flowers which abound here in Australia. This painting celebrates these sturdy flowers which thrive and prosper in the most arid and difficult of conditions; an achievement to which I, as a survivor and thriver of both acquired & traumatic brain injury, deeply relate. Banksia represent hope, resilience and individuality - surely this is a visual embodiment of what we as a society need? I have used only palette knives to emphasise the spiky cylindrical nature of this wild bloom and portrayed them freely floating, uncurtailed , just as they are in nature. The banksia, a tiny symbol of rebirth.

Assunta Buono, Behind so much apparences - The landscape of Syracuse in Sicily island is a wonderful image that the observer can’t see completely. The paint is the metaphor of a human comportament. Sometimes our true essence is hidden behind insurmountable barriers of appearances built by ourselves and that collapse only in the face of events capable of making us waver. This painting shows how appearance is a sort of curtain that falls revealing the true reality of things only when we trust others. The curtain is stopped in the part of paint that still remains in the darkness, this means that the certain apparences sometimes survive in us and never go out.

The Garden of Earthly Delights paintings can be interpreted as a depiction of the chaos and confusion of the human experience, conveying the idea that the world is a strange and unpredictable place, and that humans must navigate its complexities to find meaning and purpose. Navigating changing landscapes is a recurrent theme in most of my works. It can be seen as a metaphor for the cycle of life, death, and rebirth. Discover

Margriet Hogue, Morning Exploion - For the last number of years I’ve been working with wood panels both of different depths and sizes and joining them together. The exploration of colour plays an important part in my process. They are all mixed media and the layers below are from paper which are covered with paint and then distressed through sanding and scraping. This process is repeated a number of times giving it a time worn appearance. The shadows created by the different depths add an important element to each piece as the light moves across throughout the day.

This piece is inspired on childhood memories of fresh coffee brewed many times a day, celebrating mundane moments of growing up in Brazil. It alludes to a collection of memories, a narrative presented through abstraction.

FRUITS QUARTZ, Back side - When I used my intuition to place the pampas grass photos, they looked like chickens. The shadow between the pampas grass looks like a chicken. Furthermore, the tip of the pampas grass looks like a chicken’s comb. And I also placed the chicken butt as a night sky. You can’t see your own tail, but you can see it if you look up. This expresses that the tail can be seen using a mirror, and that the universe is made up of reflections. This means that everyone is born in the universe. I am getting the message that black holes are where life is born.

Mo Kessler, Lap Work and Leftovers - Site Responsive Installation. Materials: Concrete, Used Bed Sheets, Chain, Yarn. Crochet, in particular the rag rug, is at the center of my work. With this stitch, I make connections from where I am, to where I come from and who I come from. From here I question working class visibility, interest, and labor within market-driven contemporary art, and the rationale behind the hierarchical lines drawn in both fine art and craft. Under the politics of disposability and extraction, market-based value is derived from myths of scarcity and exclusivity; to mark value through attention, care and abundance undermine these myths.

Elizabeth Hopkins, Red - In her work, Elizabeth Hopkins strives to capture the melancholy of the everyday. For her, photography is a window to a renewed way of seeing, one that reveals poetic meaning in the mundane. She experiences photography as a meditative practice, one that grounds her in the fleeting moment. She seeks to reveal the surreal within the ordinary through her use of frame, emotive light, and distorted space. She hopes to create images that are homages to the transient nature of things, that leave the viewer with a question rather than an answer.

Inbal Kristin, Crescita - As part of being a multidisciplinary artist, I like to combine the different mediums. This work consists of an acrylic painting and panda on canvas, after that I cut the canvas into small pieces of different sizes, photographed and edited on the computer. On the computer I made many changes such as: sharpening colors, effects, compositions, the final result is digital

I like to create works where the border between mediums blurs. It is difficult for the viewer to understand whether it is a painting or a digital work, a photograph. When in fact the work is a combination of all mediums

Monika Zimová, At the end of the fjord valley - As children we are sailors of the skies, we are completely immersed in the world of the mysterious. And I can not help but still remain captivated by that world that is somewhere just one step behind our ordinary life, a wondrous place with fjords, mountains and wooden houses. We can let our bodies melt into the glacier, we can let ourselves slide from the mountain, we become one with them. There is a calling to become nature for a moment. It feels like a spiritual experience that reminds me of a knowing of what this world really is.

Arthur Sangster, Deep in Ministry - Is about my past sexual relationships with ministers from Protestant backgrounds, and my romantic and sexual feelings for them. The painting is influenced by the song and music video put your hand on me by Sinnead O’ Conner and MC Lyte. The orange represents passion and warmth in being with these men who were fun to be with in the bedroom and outside of it. It speaks to how Queer in ministry can be the most sexually vigorous in the sheet and the most passionate with who they are engaging with sexually. Lack of faces in the figures represent the reserveness about their sex life, but these men are not in the closet. They are just private even though they are out.

Amalia Dorion, Carassius Auratus - Named after the scientific name, Carassius Auratus, for ‘goldfish’, this oil painting was inspired by a simple conversation with a friend about eating live goldfish that spiraled into a fury of visibly passionate brushstrokes and an essence of peculiar eeriness. This piece brings together the textual beauty of brushstrokes influenced by Impressionism and brings to life the strange, dreamlike visions of Surrealism. Playing with aspects of different eras of painting and the strange stopping points that all paintings end in, allowing the story of the paint being placed on the canvas to be shown while telling the story of the figures in the painting, I wanted to create a piece that can be multi-faceted.

Beate Steinmetz, Here I am - My body of work revolves around energy and beauty which I embody in my expressive portraits of people and animals. The paintings celebrate the uniqueness of the individual. My focus is not only on what the eyes can see, but what the heart can feel. My creative process is an interplay between accuracy and intuitive impulses. To create my unique style, I use acrylic paint in various consistencies, painted, dripped and spatulated in multiple layers. The interplay of textures with intense colours and monochrome facial features builds emotional and visual tension.

Jaana Kivi, IDEA OF FREEDOM - IDEA OF FREEDOM (2022) is strongly driven by our inner desire for liberation. Sometimes we might feel that outer rules and structures are there to limit and make us small. Art is made to remind us that what comes to freedom of creation, we must see beyond these limitations. This artwork is created to evoke this kind of invitation. The viewer might feel some strange attraction, some energy that can be sensed, that fascinates, but perhaps cannot immediately be understood. Something that resonates in harmony with one’s own longing for freedom.

Jennifer Small, Brick Sidewalk to the Visitor’s Center - This painting describes the vibrancy and lushness of Savannah, Georgia’s historic district via representational abstraction. Natural and man-made elements combine to represent my experience walking through the idyllic streets and squares. I collect images of common objects and use them as inspiration for my abstract paintings through a process of photography, collage, and drawing to arrive at my compositions. This work also demonstrates loose, painterly applications juxtaposed with more rigid, hard-edge applications of the media, acrylic paint and spray paint. While the palette is imagined, each painting is an archive of a time and place connected to a personal experience.

Tasha Tus, La Douleur Exquise - The French phrase means “exquisite pain”. It doesn’t mean physical discomfort, but pain in the soul. The black and white flower patterns are complex weaves of fate around the alluring “love” in the center. She smiles sneeringly and you don’t know what lurks behind that smile. It is like an abyss into which you fall. It is beautiful, it beckons. Roses denote beauty, but the girl holds them by the thorns. Love is wonderful, but also painful at the same time.

I wanted to capture the energy of his classroom and how I was feeling that day. I dedicated this piece to him for inspiring me and reminding me of the importance of honesty in your own work - and not to fall for what academia shoves down artists’ throats, stripping away their individuality.

Alaa Khalifa, Morbid Tranquility - Tranquility – a state of peacefulness, calmness, and stillness. I named this piece Morbid Tranquility because it conveys two paradoxical themes. What we see in the photo is tranquil – a feather that peacefully fell from a migrating flamingo, calmly resting on a body of liquid. But the truth is morbid: the feather rests on a body of oil from a nearby refinery, and soon after the photo was taken, the feather was swallowed into the viscous oil. Morbid Tranquility reminds us that the beauty we see on the surface does not tell the whole story.

Jaime R Torres Jr, Manic Depression - I fell into a dark depressed mode for years I just couldn’t figure a way out till I started pouring out my my emotions and feelings out on the canvas I fell in very dark times and I couldn’t find the light at the end of the tunnel or one type of religion to help out of the funk I was in.. even the figure iconography isn’t strong enough but it was the process and day by day working it out on canvas to color and composition and finally composing my own end to or writing my ending from such despair it’s supposed to be a painting that helps relates others events though we get sad and in different ways but I feel it bad to be made to let others know that they are not alone..

Millie Griffiths, All at once, all feeling returned - I did a fast drawing of an abstract face and from there, my surrealist automatism style took off. Once completed I had my routined-discovering-a-title moment that would suit the piece. I spent time looking at it, reading into where the figure, having a cigarette gives off a sense of narrative. I found that the odd-looking figure appears isolated in an atmosphere that describes his intense emotion such as the shapes surrounding him in a form of motion. This alien-looking figure looks to be in a state of pure and sudden realisation. In this I found a story I could interpret from my piece - an alien who had lost all feeling and all at once all feeling returned.

Hee Jung Han, Landscape of Plis 013 - My work is a process of exploring the ‘multiplicity’ inherent in humans living in the hyper-connected era where truth and lies, real and fake are mixed, and at the same time, at the same time, it is a journey of discovering myself who knows nothing as an ancient a wiseman’s said. Driven by the desire to contextualize this, I use the fragments obtained from deconstructing my figurative paintings to create art that reinvents narrative and redefines meaning. For this, the collage technique was used dynamically and the fragments of various shapes extracted from the original are placed in reverse front and back, the inside and outside are flipped, and the visible becomes invisible.

It was enlightening learning the history of sculptures of African kings and queens that look like me. This piece is inspired by those sculptures. I am an African American woman who is a first-generation college graduate. This is a big milestone, not just for me but for my family as well. I have grown so much as a woman from my college journey.
