Hi Readers, Here we are, three quarters of the way through the year….I’m not even going to tell you how many days until the dreaded ‘C’ word, but it isn’t many and I have no doubt it’ll be upon us before long!! Every year, I have a plan! It starts around now and it involves me getting organised by purchasing some gifts for our loved ones…..and this is where the plan ends until around the 18th December!! I mean, it’s the same time every year! I don’t know what I’m surprised but yet I am doomed to repeat the same mistake like some kind of merry ground hog day! I suppose the only exception was last year as we knew we weren’t going to see some of the family, so what happened there was a ridiculously elongated gift obtaining session! It started around the 18th as usual (remember covid was initially planning to take a Christmas week hiatus!) and then sort of rolled into a cycle of sporadic gift buying – forgot what we bought them – bought more gifts – hunt down Christmas paper – wrapped gifts – can’t remember what they are – buy more presents…until
we saw the family in June! Anyway, this year is going to be different!! Honest!! Perhaps our front covers will help this month with the stress of it! In honour of International doodle day, we’ve changed the material of our front covers so that you can whip out your felt tip pens/ crayons/paints and join in the fun. Laura has written a cracking article on this, see page 4 for details and keep your eyes peeled on our social media where we will be posting some of our attempts and please feel free to share yours! Happy Reading,
Emily x P.S. Don’t forget to mention the ‘Voice’ when you use any of the companies in this magazine

From the Editor
National Doodle Day - 3rd September It seems it’s true, there is in fact a day for everything…even doodling, because Friday 3rd September is National Doodle Day - who knew? There is a serious side to National Doodle Day, it was initially dreamt up in 2004 as a way to raise funds and awareness for epilepsy support and research in the UK. Celebrities were encouraged to create a doodle and add their signature with the resulting, ahem, ‘artwork’ sold off via eBay. Do you doodle - now that’s not a question you get asked every day is it? The theory goes that because we tend to doodle almost without knowing we’re doing it, our innermost feelings or demons can be revealed as we let go of consciously thinking and just let the pen or pencil do its thing. You may start of just scribbling on the notepad in front of you whilst you’re on hold to the council / telecom provider / bank (or whatever) only to see a monster with goggly eyes appearing in front of you (this is especially prevalent when waiting in an interminable queue to speak to anyone who says you owe them money!). There are apparently translatable patterns to our scribbles: many of us will doodle hearts, stars, moons, flowers, squares, circles (and other shapes) and these tend to be connected with our basic need for love and security (apparently). Digging down deeper, are there more straight lines (masculine) or curves (feminine)? Straight lines appear more with fact based analytical people, whereas curves and circles show up with those who are more creatively minded. Doodle a house - square, with a pointy roof and uniformly square windows, and you
4
are probably a very down to earth and practical person with an eye to the material things in life. The pressure of the pen on the paper can also be an indication of someone’s state of mind at the time they made their doodle. Have you ever noticed that when you are feeling irritated or angry you press harder, almost as if you want to rip the paper? I know I have. Feathery light hesitant marks on the other hand can denote uncertainty, even a reluctance to make or take a decision. The next time you are sitting absentmindedly doodling, see if any of what I’ve just written fits your scribblings. Take note of your state of mind, were you happy, annoyed, feeling sad? Do your doodles reflect this? Or are they just random markings on the paper made to pass the time? To find out how to buy the doodles being created this year by celebrities ranging from cricket legend Dickie Bird to Maureen Lipman and Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen, you’ll need to visit https://www.epilepsy. org.uk/doodle-day. Who knows, you could end up with a rather unique piece of art for your wall, whilst at the same time helping support epilepsy research in the UK. These articles are researched and written by Laura Billingham, a local content writer and author. Laura moved to the Peak District several years ago to pursue her passion for writing. PINXTON PORCELAIN:
PART ONE
The Pinxton porcelain factory has been described as Britain’s most enigmatic factory. In 1958 in their book, ‘English Porcelain and Bone China 1743 – 1850’, Bernard and Therle Hughes wrote of the Pinxton factory, ‘so few examples of “Pinxton porcelain”, are known that nothing can be usefully said about it. Perhaps its day will come tomorrow.’
of Pinxton collectors. It has been calculated that over 95% of Pinxton wares are NOT marked with a pattern number.
In 1968 Mr W D John in his book ‘William Billingsley 1758 – 1828’, stated, ‘William Billingsley was able to commence the manufacture of soft paste porcelain at Pinxton according to his own formulations; ONE OF THE MOST INTRIGUING HAPPENINGS IN THE HISTORY OF BRITISH CERAMICS.’ Today ‘gram for gram’ Pinxton porcelain regularly attracts higher prices than any other comparable European example. Why is this? There are a number of reasons. Scarcity is certainly one. Secondly is the factory’s association with William Billingsley: he is credited with making some of the whitest, most delicate and translucent, soft-paste porcelain ever made. Billingsley also excelled in two other of the main arts of ceramics; he is known world-wide as a floral decorator par excellence; he was also an excellent landscape decorator and gilder (painter with medium of liquid gold). Pinxton was one of the pioneers in English landscape decoration on porcelain. Examples of Pinxton porcelain demonstrate all these skills. The Pinxton factory was one of eighteen softpaste English porcelain factories founded in the second half of the eighteenth century; only two of which survived well into the nineteenth. One other aspect which separates Pinxton from other factories was it’s policy (or apparent lack of) marking its wares. This all adds to the frustration
6
Collectors of Pinxton wares therefore need to be proficient in other aspects: • Identification of patterns • Pinxton shapes (helped by the Pinxton Coffee Can being different to any other factory) • Glaze, this was liquid glaze mixed with lead • Feel of the paste, determined by the mix. THE BIGGEST MYSTERY OF ALL HOWEVER WAS WHO WAS BEHIND THE FACTORY AND WHY WAS IT FOUNDED? A STORY FOR ANOTHER TIME! Anyone with a genuine interest in Pinxton porcelain is invited to telephone Norman Taylor 01773 863743.
HERITAGE DAY:
There will be a display of Pinxton porcelain and SATURDAY 16TH OCTOBER 21 any queries THE POST MILL relating to said can be raised. From 11AM

Book Review
There are some books which just make you happy – and The Hundred Year Old Man Who Climbed Out Of The Window And Disappeared by Swedish writer Jonas Jonasson – is one of them. It’s not just that it’s funny and fun and clever and loopy. It’s warm, silly and endearingly full of the best of human nuttiness. A brilliantly written antidote to the sometimes grim news outside our windows and a great cure for the glums. Allan Karlsson – he of the hundred years – is sitting in his room in an old people’s home gloomily waiting for his 100th birthday party to begin. The Mayor is going to be there, and the newspapers. But then Allan decides he won’t be. With a sprightliness which belies his years he climbs out of the window, makes his way through the flowerbeds and he’s off for the best adventure ever, involving murders, vodka, criminals, an elephant, and a suitcase full of cash. And some pretty useless policemen. Allan is an old man who has seen it all, and played a significant part, it seems, in many of the big events of the 20th century. Albert Einstein, President Nixon, Stalin – are all bit players in Allan’s extraordinary life. As a lesson in how to grow old disgracefully, this is the pinnacle. You need never fear old age again.

Woman with terminal cancer does epic skydive for charity with her twin sister A woman with terminal cancer has raised almost £2,000 for charity after doing a tandem skydive with her sister. Lyndsey Allen, 35, was diagnosed with neuroendocrine cancer during the first lockdown, after living with months of agonising stomach pain. “Nobody wanted to listen,” she explains about how she tried to explain to doctors over the phone that the pain was “just terrible”. She was mistakenly diagnosed her as having Irritable bowel syndrome, then gall stones, before the agonising pain compelled her to take herself to hospital. A scan revealed that Lyndsey had 18 cm tumours in her abdomen and neck. She began chemotherapy almost immediately. “I was in a such a weak state at this stage,” she says. “I fell ill with sepsis and almost died. The hardest part was having to battle this alone as my family weren’t able to visit me in hospital. But I was determined to keep going.” “I was very down to begin with,” she explains. “But I figured, I just had to get on with life. And the NHS staff who’ve been supporting me have been incredible.”
Lyndsey has found the help she’s received at John Eastwood Hospice has helped keep her strong. She is taking part in a drugs trial for fatigue and is also given complementary therapy. Lyndsey says she’s always embraced the conviction of ‘Do what you want to do,’ and has never allowed fear to stop her from following her dreams. It was this attitude which made her decide to do a skydive to celebrate her thirty fifth birthday. “I’m of the opinion that we need to give back to people who’ve given to us,” she adds. “So seeing how much money has been raised so far for the charities we care about – John Eastwood Hospice and MacMillan Cancer Support - is great.”

Shipley Park might just be Rafa’s favourite place in the world. So he was delighted when David Robinson, who walks here often, offered to write up this fabulous walk for the magazine. Thank you David! The park is lovely, with a great variety of scenery, sights and countryside and this walk takes you on a well thought out route. Rafa loved the walk, as did Flake, and they gave it a big ‘paws up’! 3 mile walk around Shipley Country Park
An easy walk for you and your dog. It shouldn’t take any more than 1 1/2 hours, but there are pleasant stops along the way. Most of the route is hard a track, but a good pair of walking boots are recommended.
FOOD & RETAIL
Start: Village Lane,The Field near Shipley Country Park, DE75 7JH gate to walk uphill. As you level off, you pass through another barrier gate with a splendid Mock Tudor Mansion on your right. As you descend down the slope there are nice views to your left.
1.
Take the A6007 out of Heanor along the Ilkeston Road. As you drive out of Marlpool you come to the Shipley Garden Centre. Only thirty yards after, turn right onto a country lane which takes you into The Field Village.
2.
Park anywhere along the lane, avoiding blocking any driveway. It’s best during the week as weekends can be busy. Walk about 100 yards past the old red telephone box, then turn right onto a tarmac path. Walk another 200 yards until you come to a bridge with Osbornes Pond on your left. Take the wooden walkway to your left down to the pond’s edge. Walk to the road and turn right.
3.
Carry on up the road and before you get to Derby Lodge, turn right onto Bell Lane. Walk down the lane ignoring any paths to your right. Eventually, after 300 yards, after 7. a 30 sign, turn left onto a clear gravel track with a wooden gate. Keep ahead and the path descends with a wooden gate right into a woodland glade.
4.
5.
When you walk out of the wooded area, keep on the track ignoring the narrower path on your right. Soon you will see Mapperley Reservoir on your right. A few yards later, there’s a wide expanse of greenery where you can relax for a while on the many benches and tables available. You can also look at the reservoir by its bankside.
6.
8.
You now come to Derby Lodge again. Here is a café with seated area and toilets. Do remember, however they are closed in winter and late autumn. Immediately, turn right after the lodge and gently rise uphill. After a few yards, you can if you wish, take the right driveway, and visit the site of The Old Shipley Hall. Here there are plaques which tell you of the Miller Mundy Family who lived there from the 1800’s. Also admire the water tower to your right which is now residential. There’s ample space to relax here and take in the tranquillity of the area. Come back onto the track and turn right. After 150 yards they split. Take the left path to walk through the gate and descend down a wooded glade. As you drop down, on your right was the site of the American Adventure Theme Park. It will soon be a new housing estate. Again, you enter a wooded area and pass through a gate. The left driveway takes you to the picturesque Shipley Cricket Club and is well worth a five-minute visit. Come back and carry on left uphill and back into the village to your car.
If you do take a break, come back to the track, and carry on right. At the end, turn left and immediately through a barrier This walk is for illustrative purposes only. Voice Magazines takes no responsibility for anyone who chooses to follow this route and encourages all walkers to obey all byelaws and signs and to respect the area they are walking in, ensuring they pick up all dog mess and obey the countryside code at all times.

Keeping your pet safe during summer The warmer weather can be an enjoyable time for both you and your pet, however it is important you aware of the risks hot days can bring. Keeping your pets safe on a hot day Conditions such as heatstroke can be easily prevented by taking precautionary measures on a hot day. Follow the steps below to ensure your pet is kept safe. • Take your dog for walks early in the morning or late in the evening when the temperature is cooler • Never leave your pet in the car, even with the windows open • Ask a neighbour to check on your pet if they are kept outside • Use fans to increase air circulation • Add ice cubes to water to keep it cooler for longer • Cover rabbits or guinea pig cages with a wet towel and put them in the shade • If you think your pet has been stung, bathe the area in cold water and if possible, try to remove any stingers you can see • Wet your pet with a hose pipe if they are panting heavily • Spray small animals with a fine mist of water • Keep your pet inside when possible • Provide two bowls of water in case one gets knocked over • Make sure your pet has a shaded area to relax in • When barbecuing, keep your pet away from leftover bones or other foods that could get stuck in their digestive tract • Provide your pet with a paddling pool to cool off in. Symptoms of heatstroke • Heavy panting and raspy breath • Skin feels warmer than usual • Anxious expression or staring appearance • Seizures • Elevated rectal temperature • Vomiting • Collapsing, stumbling or falling down • Salivation • Open mouth breathing • Lying flat on cool services • Bright red gums.
What to do if you suspect heatstroke If you suspect that your pet has heatstroke, follow the steps below; 1. Immediate veterinary attention is recommended. Call your vet to tell them that you are on your way 2. Whist travelling in a car, keep your air conditioning on or your windows down. At the vets, treatment may include any of the following: • Intravenous fluids • Oxygen • Blood test (to determine if any organs have been damaged). Severe cases can have a significant risk of death and may require hospitalisation. Which types of pet are most susceptible to heatstroke? All pets can suffer from heatstroke, but some types are more susceptible than others. This includes; • Dogs that exercise excessively in hot weather • Short snout breeds • Pets that have recently relocated to hotter climates • Cats with shortened faces like the Persian • Elderly or ill pets • Pets with heart conditions • Pets who have suffered from heatstroke before • Caged pets that are unable to seek cooler environments • Overweight pets.

Local lad shines at first
Olympic Games!
Over the next two editions we’re excited to share an interview with Jacob Whittle, the 16 year old swimmer from Alfreton who became the youngest swimmer ever to make the British Olympic team. This month we look at how he began his swimming career.
Did you always love the water? Yes I did - my mum first took me to a mother and toddler session when I was maybe 1 year old and we went together every week. As soon as I was old enough my parents signed me up in a learn to swim programme - they aren’t swimmers but wanted me to learn to swim and not to be afraid of the water.
How old were you when you first learned to swim? I was 3 years old, possibly younger, I just transitioned from the mother and toddler water rhymes sessions where me and my mum were in the water together singing nursery rhymes. I went every week to learn to swim sessions on a Saturday at Water Meadows, Mansfield.
When did you realise you had the ability to swim competitively? I joined Ripley Amateur Swimming Club & Life-Saving (RASCALS) when I was 8 or 9, but I was 10 before I attended my first swimming competition. Derbyshire County Championships was my first major competition, and I didn’t make a final but the following year at the same competition I pretty much won every event I swam. At that age I was swimming all strokes and distances. I competed at the Regional Championships (East Midlands) and came away with a handful of gold medals, and I was given the opportunity to supplement my training at RASCALS by joining Dervenio Excel on a part time basis, moving to full time 6 months later as part of their national squad. From the age of 12 I was selected each year to be part of the talent programmes for Swim England. In 2019 at the age of 14, I qualified for the British Swimming Championships and whilst there I swam a huge lifetime best breaking the British record for aged 14 in 100m Freestyle. As a result of this competition I was selected for the European Junior Championships and European Youth Olympic Festival. Later that year I was selected onto British Swimming’s Podium Potential Programme.
How many hours a day do you train? Usually it is 4hrs per day in the pool and then I also do gym and circuit sessions a few times a week too.
Do you eat a special diet? No, but I eat a balanced healthy diet, with lots of greens, lots of food rich in iron, fish, chicken, plenty of carbs, lots of fruit, milk and I also drink lots of water. At the end of the day I am a teenager and my parents have always allowed me to eat like a teenager in moderation, which means I will have treats sometimes! Next month, Jacob tells us about his Olympic experience.

Mike’us sings M
Following last month’s super scoop, George is back out of hiding and back with another of his recollections of yesteryear... Mike is always glad to hear from you at mike. musings@outlook.com
George’s Footballing Tales (continued)
Just like many a young lad today, George was football mad and entranced by the stories of when, according to his grandad Horace Twigg, Hilcote was at the centre of the footballing universe and responsible for many aspects of the commercial side of the ‘beautiful game’ that we take for granted today. You’ll recall a few months ago, George telling me of how Thomas Palfreyman, prior to beginning his illustrious career in journalism, had sold copies of the Hacademicals Herald, an award winning football programme, prior to home matches at the Harena. The Club had provided him with shelter, initially Tommy’s Teepee, and after the devastating gales of November 1897, the more substantial Tommy’s Tin Hut. Recognising his success in raising revenue for the Club, a supporter suggested at a public meeting that more could be made of the young programme seller’s ‘retail outlet’. NB – those were not his actual words of course as back in those days, they still used old fashioned words like ‘shop’. The Hacademicals’ management team could see merit in this and were soon to appoint a Commercial Director whose main task was to create the first ever ‘club shop’. These days of course, regardless of the level they compete at, almost all football clubs, from Barcelona to Alfreton Town, offer supporters the opportunity to buy a range of goods in club colours. Well, I wonder how many wide-eyed and excited youngsters these days visiting the likes of the Manchester United Megastore would believe that, as Horace assured his grandson, it all started in Hilcote?
40
Initially, there was a very limited stock of items available in the Hilcote colours of chocolate and cream – the shirts were in the ‘quartered’ style currently associated with clubs like Bristol Rovers – but the scarves, woolly bobble hats, rosettes and rattles proved popular with fans and sold like ‘hot cakes’ and the recently appointed Commercial Director was rewarded with an extended contract and asked to come up with more profitable lines. The early success lent itself to one idea straight away and Mildred Mycroft’s chocolate and cream cakes began selling like, well........ you know. However, following a survey of the Club’s fanbase, a number of imaginative suggestions were made and so it was that Hilcote Hacademicals became the first to sell goods in club colours that were not just to be worn on matchday but had a practical purpose. As a result, many a local working chap in the early days of the 20th Century could look forward at Christmas or on birthdays, to a new set of knee pads, ear defenders, hard hats, dusk masks and even tin baths in the famous chocolate & cream colours. Yes, there may have been a significant change in the range of products on offer from those pioneering days, but all of you who now take pride in wearing underwear in your particular club’s colours can thank Hilcote Hacademicals for creating the opportunity for you to indulge your little secret.

W E I V ' A 'C Nourishing Mother September 1967. My first day at Swanwick Hall School. I didn’t have a clue what to expect having spent the previous 7 years at Riddings Infants and Juniors. Those 7 years had been gentle and kind. In all of those 7 years I had only met one teacher who “worried” me a little – and her bark was hugely worse than her bite. Her name was Joyce Duffield and she later became a colleague and friend during my early membership of Alfreton Golf Club. My formative schools were great but absolutely no preparation for Swanwick Hall Grammar. I put on my uniform and looked at the school motto on the badge. “Stand Sure”. Excellent advice for an 11 year old on his first day! I walked it to Leabrooks, down Crays Hill, through The Delves and past Ellsons shop, glanced at The Gate Inn and up to “the bottom gate”. Thank God I was “standing sure”! My first vision was a group of older kids waiting to “greet” the newbies. No serious problem for me and the greeting was survived...but then. I got to the top of the drive and turned right. Was it fancy dress day?? All the adults were dressed like Batman with black capes fluttering and flowing. I’d never seen a graduate before and had no idea that they were entitled to wear these ridiculous gowns...and oh how they loved them...strutting around like testosterone fuelled peacocks.

Yesterday, August 8th 2021, I went back to Swanwick Hall 54 years later. Around 40 to 50 of us old boys and girls returned to savour the feeling and speak to the ghosts of our mutual past. They didn’t let us down. Jonathan Fawcett (Headteacher), Martyn Richmond (Site Manager) and a group of spectacular students made us all feel like VIPs and did us more than proud. Next year Swanwick Hall School celebrates her centenary. Our “nourishing mother” (Latin scholars will understand) can expect a telegram from the Queen. If you have any stories about your time at school or any photographs or artefacts the school can beg or borrow to help with the celebrations, please let me know on the email address below and I can pass them on. I look forward to seeing what Jonathan and his staff have in mind but I’m certain they’ll be “standing sure”

Gardener’s Calendar Once your raspberry and blackberry brambles have fruited, take old canes back to soil level. On new canes take them to about four feet so side growth will be stimulated next year. Gloves needed! Planting shrubs and moving small trees now gives them a head start for next spring and you’re not so likely to need to worry about frosts just yet. Time to put in your spring bulbs. Daffs, and crocuses can go in before the end of September, alliums and crocosmia which flower next summer can be planted in September or October. Leave the tulips till November for best results.
r
Lots of outside container grown plants such as fuchsias and pelargoniums (geraniums) will quite happily live indoors over the winter, particularly in an unheated conservatory or cool room and will keep producing flowers. Don’t water as much during the winter months and cut back if they start getting leggy, but they can be put out again into the garden next year.
Top Tip Autumn is a good time to prune back hedges, but if you cut them slightly narrower at the top it will allow light to fall on the bottom of the hedge and encourage even growth. 06/11/2018 18:16

Peak Time for the Dragons We touched on Damsels last month but later in the summer and through into autumn it is the time of the Dragons! These are the big beasts of the insect world and in and around the Peak District the bigger dragonflies really come into their own. What is more, with warmer summers as we have experienced in recent years, the numbers and varieties have increased significantly. Along lower-lying rivers and canals you can expect to see the huge ‘brown hawker’ with a mostly brown body but shimmering goldenbrown wings. This will be joined by the ‘Northern Hawker’, the ‘Southern Hawker’, and the slightly smaller ‘Migrant Hawker’ with its downward drooping abdomen. The biggest of all is probably the appropriately named ‘Emperor’, or maybe one of our ‘specials’ of peat-moor and bog, the ‘Golden-ringed Dragonfly’. With their generic name reflecting their feeding behaviour these are called ‘hawkers’ and they will pursue and on the wing, eat, smaller insect prey. You can see them catch a butterfly in the air and then pull off its wings and eat the body without pausing in their flight. The prehistoric ones were about two feet across so just imagine that! Other groups of lesser dragonflies are similarly named with descriptive titles – so we have skimmers, darters, and chasers. Some of these species will be more commonly found in lowland parts of Derbyshire and the Peak; with others like Golden-ringed and Black Darter denizens of boggy pools and fast-flowing streams. The larger species however will turn up well away from their
breeding habitat and often visit gardens and similar locations – with or without ponds. Brown hawker for example can roam across the wider countryside and I even recall one hawking across the Bramall Lane Kop and livening up a particularly dull Sheffield United game in the 1990s. On another occasion it was a kestrel that provided the halftime entertainment as it flew and perched underneath the roof of the Shoreham Street end. You can expect to get good views of dragons along choice sites like the Rivers Wye or Derwent for example; and Cromford Canal is especially good. Old dewponds across the White Peak provide further good hunting grounds for the enthusiast as do the extensive peat bogs and pools of the higher moors. If you like the idea of dragons visiting your own garden, then autumn is a good time to plan any pond creation and to stock it up with water, plants, and silt in order for it to settle in over the winter months. However, you do need a sunny, sheltered site. If you can get materials from an established pond then it is likely that you will bring in the aquatic larvae of both damsels and dragons and so potentially ‘kick-start’ your own wild water-body. Once adult, these beasts do like to perch so provide suitable sticks or branches around the pond perimeter. Then just sit back and let nature come to you……….

Get your bathroom ready for when you return from hospital. After a stay in hospital, it’s wonderful to hear the words “you can go home”. But if your physical needs have changed, it’s important that you can live at home safely and without any struggle. This might mean organising equipment or renovations before you come home. At AHM Installations we are used to installing bathrooms for people coming home from hospital. One of our customers, Mr Simpson, 86, unexpectedly went into hospital with Covid-19 last year. There he also had pneumonia, a superbug and a stroke and was in hospital for 7 weeks. “There was a lot of prayer,” his wife Mrs Simpson, 82, told us. Mr Simpson had been due to have a low-level shower installed but when he was ready to come home from hospital, the carers said that the new shower tray wouldn’t work. They needed a wetroom to make sure the new wheelchair could manoeuvre into and around the bathroom. Mrs Simpson said: “Every time I called Nichola (at AHM) to let her know what was happening, she was so good about it. She was so calm and accommodating. I felt very comfortable all the way through.” Here’s our guide to getting your bathroom ready for your return: • Take note of what the professionals say. A doctor, nurse or occupational therapist may recommend what activities you need help with. For example, if you need a walking frame or wheelchair to move around, we’d need to know what size it is. • Know the difference between independent and assisted bathing. If your goal is to remain independent, we’d need to know whether you can sit down and stand up unaided for example, and how
www.ahminstallations.co.uk info@ahminstallations.co.uk
your mobility is likely to change over time. If a carer is going to assist you then products such as bath-lifts may need to be considered. • Ask a family member or close friend to help. Take the pressure off the decision making and involve someone you trust. If the style of toilet or tiles is crucial for you, make sure they know about it in advance. • Use a bathroom company you can trust. Some companies focus on selling bathroom products without understanding your preferences and needs. At AHM our priority is quality of life. There’s no point having a product unless it makes things safer and easier for you. AHM has installed thousands of accessible bathrooms over the last 20 years, so we know how to make bathrooms safe and stylish whatever your budget. We believe everyone should have access to safe, affordable bathing. We are polite, considerate and leave no mess. But don’t just take our word for it – you can read our customer reviews on our website, Check-a-Trade or Trust Pilot. You’re welcome to call us just for advice – there’s always someone at the end of the phone. Our family-run team are on 0115 936 1886.
