HOPE VALLEY RUGBY CLUB
THAT WINNNG HABIT
Valley maintained their unbeaten start to the season when, following a walkover win against Bowdon, they made the trip to Burnage, traditionally a difficult place to pick up any points, and produced a sublime 43 minutes of rugby for a 43-0 lead. The remaining 37 minutes was fairly mediocre, but still Valley won 48-19.
Another walkover win, this time against Glossop, followed and this gave the Club the opportunity to play their NLD Vase 1st round fixture against higher ranked Worksop. Valley overcame the rankings to run out 36-8 winners and they followed this with a 54-12 win at previously unbeaten Ashton-under-Lyne to secure top spot in the division.
LOOKING THE PART
Valley’s recent NLD Vase game against Worksop gave the Club the opportunity to unveil their brand new kit, the main sponsor of which, Wheston Middle Farm Estates, were also match sponsors for a performance that was thoroughly enjoyed by a large crowd at Hope Sports Club.
DATES FOR THE DIARY
Valley’s NOWIRUL Shield 2nd round tie against Marple became a Covid victim after an outbreak at the Cheshire club meant they were unable to field a side in what had promised to be an entertaining fixture. It’s been a real team effort, but Jake Oldridge leads the scoring charts with 54 points whilst Steve Rawson has contributed five tries, but mention must also be made of Graham Green, who defied his 67 years to make the starting line-up against Ashton-under-Lyne.
Valley’s busy fixture list continues into November. Victory in the NOWIRUL Shield 2nd round will give the Club a 3rd round fixture on 06 November (opponent tba) before they face consecutive away league games at Didsbury Toc H (13 Nov) and Stockport (20 Nov). Full details of the fixtures can be found on the Club’s website.
