Mansfi eld Hockey Club are back on form
Mansfi eld Hockey Club are a friendly and competitive club, based at Kingsway Park in Kirkby in Ashfi eld. We cater to members of all abilities and of ages 13+, with our oldest member being 78 years old!
After a tricky return from the Christmas break the 1st XI are back on form with back-to-back 4-1 wins, which has kept them right in the action at the top of the league. With 2 points separating 3 teams and some proper ‘6-pointers’ coming up, it’s an exciting time!
Elsewhere across the club there has been a mixed bag of results since the return to playing, with some big wins and losses. There aren’t many draws in hockey as there are normally plenty of goals. This makes it a fun sport to play. (Even as a defender we still try to get in on the action!)
Most of the clubs teams are sitting around midtable but with several fi xtures still to play there will be no let-up in our resolve to fi nish as high up the league as possible. This can be seen in the commitment of the players and coaches to attend training, despite the recent storms! The only thing that normally stops play is a frozen pitch, with a hardcore of players who turn up, wind, rain or shine. As anyone who has played in driving sleet will tell you, it’s not much fun at the time, but it makes the victory (and drinks afterwards) that much sweeter!
As I’ve mentioned before there are fi ve men’s teams playing at a range of levels and the club has an affi liation with Ashfi eld Aztecs Ladies Hockey Club through which they help run the Mansfi eld Aztecs Junior Hockey Club.
