The season behind and the summer ahead

Mansfield Hockey Club are a friendly and competitive club, based at Kingsway Park in Kirkby in Ashfield. We cater to members of all abilities and of ages 13+, with our oldest member being 78 years old!

Despite some laudable results across the club the biggest victory, for everyone involved in hockey, is the completion of a full season after Covid-19 wrecked the previous two. As a club, a fantastic amount of work has gone into keeping it all going and a huge amount of credit goes to the coaches, the captains and all the team behind the scenes, organising pitches, umpires, friendlies and all of the other vital admin. This has put the club in a great position, with a thriving youth programme flooding the squads with quality players, who are a credit to the club and their coaches. This has complimented a friendly and enthusiastic group of players whose commitment has borne out through the pandemic. Moving forwards the focus is on keeping fit and getting ready for next season. For those interested there are still many opportunities to play, with masters tournaments for the more ‘experienced’ players and an array of summer 6-a-side tournaments. For those who want a little time off, the regular season will return all too soon. In previous years the club has run social hockey sessions with pre-season training returning at the back end of summer. The return to hockey is always one approached with a mix of enthusiasm and trepidation. Whilst we may have missed playing, we know we will have to pay for any time off with aches, pains and lots of red-faced gasping for air, which will have us asking why we stopped in the first place. But it’s all part of the fun and the reason we all keep coming back is the enjoyment of a game on a Saturday and the friendship and camaraderie of our teammates. My Experience:

During my placement as a student counsellor, I worked in a variety of counselling agencies – from general adult counselling, to young people counselling, counselling for those affected by alcohol and substance abuse, and also counselling for adults who experienced sexual abuse as a child.

After I qualified, I have continued to give back to the local community as a counsellor with various causes - helping people with cancer, drug/ alcohol misuse and sexual abuse to name a few. In my experience I have seen clients with a range of issues from bereavement and grief, to relationship, CSA, exam pressures, self-esteem and self-worth, mental health conditions such as anxiety and depression, hearing voices, suicidal ideation, and trauma.
