Vintage Rambles with rafa and Flake Bailey Bailey
This walk originally appeared in the magazines 9 years ago! We were all a little younger then, not least the eponymous Rafa but worry not he will return to these pages soon. In the meantime, his able deputy Baily Boo is here again. This is a walk has become a favourite of ours and it’s one we have done dozens of times, with a few variations as we discovered new paths. But this is the classic, in its original form, for you to explore and enjoy as much as we do.
4-MILE CIRCULAR WALK AROUND THE COUNTRYSIDE NEAR UNDERWOOD
A short but sweet walk for you and your dog! With good paths and great views this walk should take around 2 hours to complete. There is a range of terrain, which can be muddy and uneven, so make sure you wear appropriate footwear and as always, follow the countryside code!
START: FELLEY LANE NORTH, UNDERWOOD, NOTTS NG16 5GT
1. The walk begins on Felley Mill Lane North, which can be accessed from the A608 (Mansfield Road) near Underwood and Junction 27 of the M1. At the bottom of the road there is limited parking but there are more opportunities to park further up the road.
2. Begin by walking through a green gate located at the bottom of Felley Mill Lane
North and carryon down the bridleway. 3. After a short while you come to a more open area and the Path either branches off to the left or right. Follow the path on the left. Carry on along this path, up a small hill and through a small wooded area. 4. Keep to the path, through a white gate. It may be worth putting your dog on the lead here as you walk past the farm buildings on your right as there are hens and ducks, which some dogs like to chase. 5. Soon after passing the farms, you will arrive at a bridge over the M1. Carry on along the track until you come to a turn on the right, which is shortly after an old gate and has a large hedge row on the corner.
Take this turn.
6. Walk along this road, with the large hedgerow on your left, you will pass some buildings on your left and open fields on your right. 7. Cross a horse stile by a metal gate and carry on along the track with the wood on your right. After a short while the path enters the wood and goes downhill. At the bottom of the hill you will come to a T– junction. Turn right. 8. Continue along the path as it enters a tunnel under the M1. Shortly after the tunnel there the path will branch left or right. keep to the right. 9. Emerge from woods through a gate and continue along the track with the woods on your left and open fields on your right. 10. Keep to the main path as it bends to the right, away from the woods. Carry on down the hill as it enters a wooded area and brings you back to the open area in point 3. Retrace your steps back up towards Felley Mill Lane North.

Voice Magazines Ltd takes no responsibility for anyone who chooses to follow this route and encourages all walkers to obey all byelaws and signs and to respect the area they are walking in, ensuring they pick up all dog mess and obey the countryside code at all times.
