ARC DEGREE 360 The David Wright House Foundation has partnered with Artlink, Inc. to present Arc Degree 360, an out of the ordinary art show and auction. Arc Degree 360 features dozens of beautifully transformed and inspired ostrich eggs created by local artists. These ovoid masterpieces bring egg decorating to a whole new level in Phoenix. Proceeds from the auction at the Art d’Core Gala will benefit Artlink Inc, a nonprofit organization dedicated to connecting artists, businesses, and the greater public to better understand, appreciate, and promote our thriving arts community in Phoenix. #ArcDegree360

David Wright House In 1950, Frank Lloyd Wright designed a home for his son David and daughter-in-law Gladys on 10 acres in the middle of citrus groves at the base of Camelback Mountain in Phoenix, Arizona. The design elevated the home in the form of a spiral rising from the desert floor, converting the treetops into the lawn and revealing 360° views of the mountains forming the valley. Mr. Wright titled the plans “How to Live in the Southwest.” Completed in 1952, the David Wright House is one of three spiral designs realized by Mr. Wright and the precursor to the Guggenheim Museum in New York City. The mission of the David Wright House Foundation is to restore and maintain the David Wright House and grounds, to celebrate the artistic legacy of Frank Lloyd Wright at the site of one of his most unique and architecturally significant houses through tours, educational programs, exhibitions, lectures, research facilities, events and performances, and to inspire creativity in future generations of artists and architects. The Foundation aims to Preserve Wright’s last residential masterpiece, Celebrate the artistic legacy of Mr. Wright, and Inspire future generations of artists and architects.

A Taliesin Tradition Frank Lloyd Wright apprentices/students, engineers and landscape artists would paint and decorate hundreds of goose eggs as place settings/favors for guests at the big Taliesin Easter brunch. The tradition of elaborate egg decorating at Taliesin dates back to the 1930s. Once the eggs were merely dyed, then artistic talent won out. Goose eggs were ordered from California. Then the fun began. Some of the eggs were decorated with floral bouquets done by landscape architect Cornelia Brierly; some Oriental simplicity by architect Ling Po; some abstract designs by student Val Cox; and some very whimsical. Students would draw inspiration from Arizona Highways, pencilling outlines of bougainvillea blooms, geometric patterns, each year incorporating new colors and new designs. The David Wright House is creating a similar tradition by reaching out to the local artist community. Having local artists decorate eggs to contribute to a community celebration we can see how this activity can not only inspire creative thought and process for the artist but grow the cultural value in a community.
