Ealanta Lochaber, is a collective of ten individual visual artists that has recently emerged in the remote West Highland region of Lochaber. Ealanta Lochaber meaning Creative Lochaber endeavours to showcase the variety of art work created in the locality and believe in the principle that unity is strength. They feel that working together to promote each other's work will raise the profile of arts in the region, thus making it more accessible to art enthusiasts from around the world. With an amalgamation of figurative, landscape and wildlife painting, wood turning and mono colographic printing, Ealanta Lochaber heralds an exciting range of disciplines and practices. Andrew Sinclair of Resipole Studios says ‘Lochaber has a marvellous breadth of high quality visual artists, who due to their geography, seldom have the chance to meet and work together. The Ealanta Lochaber project brings together ten of the best visual practitioners in the area so that collectively they can market their work to a much larger scale' David Wilson of the Lime Tree Gallery said 'The old socialist adage that 'unity is strength' is absolutely true here. By coming together these ten †artists have a much bigger impact and doors will open with opportunities that individually they would not have had' Ealanta Lochaber consists of Alan B. Hayman, Alistair Smyth, Andrew Sinclair, Andrew Stewart, Anna Raven, David Wilson, Gail Wendorf, James MacCallum, Jamie Hageman and John Hodgson. Ealanta Lochaber held its premier exhibition at the Lime Tree in Fort William on Friday the 16th of July. Further exhibitions include The Glasgow and London Art Fair, as well as a show held in Paris early next year. The collective has also compiled a book that offers a visual representation of its artists' work, showcasing the range of styles and individual interpretations of West Highland life over a broad spectrum of mediums and subject matters. The book will be available to buy in tourist venues and galleries across the Highlands.

Ti m C o c k b u r n Solo Exhibition Open for viewing from 13th April. This is our first solo exhibition of Tim's work and we are delighted that there is over 20 works to view.

Page 6 SCOTLAND IN STITCHES The Great Tapestry of Scotland: A unique project to stitch the entire story of Scotland from pre-history to modern times.

Saturday 5th May - Sunday 3rd June 2012

Your Paintings project on track to have all public oil paintings in Scotland online by year end. The Public Catalogue Foundation (PCF), in partnership with the BBC, today announced that an additional 4,000 oil paintings from public collections across Central Scotland Fife and Perth, Kinross and Angus have been added to the Your Paintings website for the nation to enjoy. Your Paintings is a project to create a complete online catalogue of every oil painting in the United Kingdomís national collection, at bbc.co.uk/yourpaintings Today’s additions to Your Paintings mean that there are now 15,000 paintings from over 60 collections across Scotland on the site including works from Aberdeen, Dundee, Edinburgh and Glasgow. By the end of the year all 35,000 oil paintings in Scottish public collections will be online for the world to view and admire. In total some 240 collections across Scotland will have participated in this project to make Scottish public art more accessible. These collections range from National Galleries of Scotland and National Trust for Scotland to many collections with just a handful of paintings. This project would not have been possible without the enthusiastic support of public bodies in Scotland such as Creative Scotland, Museums Galleries Scotland and the Scottish Government. The PCF is particularly grateful to the Scottish Government which has made two generous grants to the project.

The Great Tapestry of Scotland is the brainchild of one of Scotland’s best-known writers, Alexander McCall Smith. The 44 Scotland Street author, together with historian Alistair Moffat, and the artistic talents of Andrew Crummy, not to mention stitchers from all over Scotland, form a team set to produce the world’s longest tapestry through one of the biggest community arts projects ever to take place in Scotland. The creation of the tapestry initiates a legacy project worth its length in gold. It is a unique and outstanding opportunity to tell our nationís history and to involve as many people as possible in the telling. The aim is to create a series of over one hundred and twenty panels that tell the key stories in Scottish history- everything from Duns Scotus to Dolly the sheep. This exciting project will use a range of embroidery skills and over 30 miles of woolen yarn to translate Andrew Crummy’s descriptive artwork into a colourful, skilful and textural depiction of the history of Scotland. To date there are stitchers in practically every area of Scotland committed to taking part, all of whom share a passion for Scottish history and some pretty impressive sewing skills. These volunteers will work together for over 400 hours per panel from locations around the country, islands and mainland, to help make Andrew Crummy’s artistic vision a reality, and gift The Great Tapestry of Scotland to the nation. The Great Tapestry of Scotland will be created, like the Bayeux Tapestry, on embroidered cloth, rather than a woven tapestry. It will be annotated variously in English, Gaelic, Latin and Scots, with surface stitching in a variety of yarns, creating a wonderfully rich and tactile artwork. A defined range of stitches will be used including stem, split and chain, with filling stitches like long and short, satin and darning, and composite stitches where appropriate. The tapestry design currently consists of over 120 panels.
