It’s the September school holidays! Join us as we celebrate anniversaries of Bedok and Bishan Public Libraries as they turn 28 and 7 respectively! Journalists from Lianhe Zaobao, together with their volunteer readers, will be at Toa Payoh Public Library to share the joys of reading Chinese stories with our little young readers. Starting from January, make it a weekly Saturday date with them! Believing strongly that good reading habits and love for Chinese should start from young, Zaobao journalists and volunteers will be telling stories of different genre, including original stories from Zaobao's very own student publication, Thumbs Up Junior. Campaign City: Artist Workshop 13 September 2013 2.00 pm – 4.00 pm Possibility Room, Level 5 National Library Building

Wondered how campaign posters are created? Then join us for this Campaign City artist workshop! In this fun holiday activity, artists will guide you in the process of poster design. The workshop includes a hands-on session for participants to create their own campaign posters. The workshop is suitable for children aged 7-12. Registration is required. About the artist Gilles Massot moved to Singapore in 1981 after studying architecture in Marseille, France, and graduating in photography. His work establishes links between disciplines, ideas, people, history and ethnology. His photojournalistic work has been extensively published in various magazines, and his artistic work presented in more than fifty exhibitions in France and Asia. His work is part of the collection of the Singapore Art Museum and the Maison Européenne de la Photographie in Paris. In 2007, he was appointed Artist for the Buona Vista Station, Circle Line, as part of the Land Transport Authority’s Integrated Art Programme. He is a faculty of Fine Arts lecturer at LASALLE College of the Arts, a lecturer in photo history at the School of Art, Design and Media-Nanyang Technological University, and a member of the Artists Village.

Immerse yourself in an enjoyable afternoon of activities which include learning and playing traditional games such as congkak and batu serembat, test your knowledge of simple Malay peribahasa (idioms) and try your best at guessing the answers to some tricky teka-teki (puzzles). Be entertained by special performances, storytelling by students from St. Hilda’s Primary School and a unique storigami presented by our very own librarian! Gelyn Ong is a 9 year old ingénue whose creative efforts are inspired by her interest in and passion for the natural environment. She started dabbling with crayons and colour pencils at the tender age of two. Since then, not only has she graduated to acrylics on canvas, her love for art has also gone towards helping the less fortunate, especially children. From August 2010 till to-date, Gelyn’s paintings have helped to raise close to S$500,000 for various charities. Gelyn has been WWF-Singapore's Young Ambassador since 2012 and is engaged in raising awareness on environmental conservation amongst her peers. Combining her artistic talent and passion for the environment, Gelyn published her first illustrated book, “The Forest Fable”, in 2013.

The Amazing Art Shuttle

JOYRIDE – A Journey of JOY Join The Amazing Art Shuttle, together with Student Advisory Centre (SAC), as they host their 2013 Children’s Art Exhibition “JOYRIDE – A Journey of Joy” at the library! Held from 27th to 29th September, 200 of their students’ works will be displayed from all over Singapore. “JOYRIDE” will be a thought-provoking and visually stimulative exhibition, featuring their students’ interpretation of the word “Joyride” and offering a perspective into their inner world. In conjunction with SAC, an array of Community Art Programmes will be planned on both days for you to take part in! The Amazing Art Shuttle is an Art Education company that believes in creating a fun and exciting environment for children to learn Art. Student Advisory Centre is a philanthropic service charity dedicated to serving children. Do join us for these exciting activities!

As per previous year, our booth will showcase the rich collection of Malay resources available in our Public Libraries with special focus on local works.

Mdm Jumaini Ariff is the author of the children book series Ariff Ingin Tahu. She will be sharing selected moral stories as well as conducting a craft session which can be taken home by participants as souvenirs.This session aims to promote filial piety and the importance of family in children’s lives.

Selain meraih nilai murni daripada kisah yang disampaikan, penonton akan turut berasa seronok kerana dapat melibatkan diri secara langsung dalam proses penceritaan. Rilek Satu Korner: Produksi Budaya dalam Institusi tinggi yang melibatkan profesionalisma (Pelajar dan Umum) Relax One Corner: Professionalism in Cultural Productions by tertiary institutes (Students and Public) 15 September, 1.00 pm – 3.00 pm Programme Zone Woodlands Regional Library Acara ala Program ‘Jus’, dimuatkan dengan perkongsian pengalaman yang diharap dapat meningkatkan tahap produksi yangg aktif dianjurkan oleh institusi pendidikan tinggi. Sri Warisan akan berkongsi pengalaman melalui penglibatan dalam produksi yang berjaya. Terdapat juga persembahan-persembahan oleh pelajar-pelajar dari Universiti Teknologi Nanyang, Politeknik Republik dan Politeknik Nanyang. The talk show-styled programme aims to allow the sharing of experiences in order to improve the standards of a production that is actively organized by institutes of higher education. Sri Warisan will share their experiences of being involved in successful productions and the ups and down of such involvements. There will also be performances by students from Nanyang Technological University, Republic Polytechnic and Nanyang Polytechnic.

Teens Network Club memperkenalkan Teater Pelajar 2013 - Pertandingan Bercerita dan Drama sempena Bulan Bahasa Melayu. Sebagai alternatif yang lebih segar yang menyalakan keghairahan dan minat dalam bahasa dan budaya Melayu, kita menyeru semua orang untuk menonton pertandingan bercerita dan drama, yang menampilkan seni dan pakaian tradisional yang berwarna-warni.

Sertailah peraduan menafsir sebuah cerpen tulisan Dr Zakaria Ali dalam bentuk lukisan. Penulis akan menjadi penilai utama yang akan turut berkongsi perihal hubungan seni lukis dan karya cereka. Masuk Percuma [Pendaftaran diperlukan]

Disembarking from the usual quizzes, Teens Network Club is introducing Teater Pelajar 2013 – A Malay Storytelling and Drama Competition in conjunction with the Malay Language Month. Creative Interactive Play, also known as CIP, is a theatrical play not only for children but adults as well. CIP involves the audience participation.
