Tony Nero’s Art

NEWS

The really random newsletter all about my art.

Master of Portraits Well I have to say, I sure didn’t give myself that title but this is what the ‘Moment’ magazine called me in their article about my latest work. But I am not complaning, because it sounds real cool to me. I stand humble to the great masters who lead the way. I am currently painting portraits of some of the local dignitaries as part

of my new collection (Faces in Spaces) which recognises Peterborough people for what they have achieved. This includes John Shearman below left and Peter Boizot who has always been a great supporter of the arts and himself accumulated a great art collection. You can read the full article which is published in the March edition of the ‘Moment’ magazine. See link below.

Whisper Through the Trees I have to say that I was delighted to be a part of this exhibition, showing my work alongside these other 24 fine artists, at the Yarrow Gallery. I must admit, I had never been to the Yarrow Gallery before, so when Jane Sanders, curator and herself artist and jeweller asked me along, I just said yes and was excited about showing here as I had heard so much about this annual event. I became even more excited when I saw the space for the first time, and what a beautiful space it is. I was totally hooked by the mood of the gallery with the soft lighting and as for the upstairs balcony, well

that just adds ambience to the space.

The exhibition, which ran for over a week in December, was curated by artist Jane Sanders and featured an exciting array of art, from paintings, ceramics, sculpture, jewellery to woodcuts and more. Thank you!

A fond farewell to Harriet’s Gallery In a few week’s time, we bid farewell to Harret’s Art Gallery. But it’s with fond memories I see her close her doors. In the short time, curator and local business woman Dawn Birch-James transformed the space of the sleepy upstairs tea room, into a vibrant buzzing art space. Not only giving local artists a chance to show their work in the heart of the city, but helping to raise awareness of excellent local art and reiterating the need to support local art. The show is never over and Dawn has already established a new brand of art outlet: Art in the Heart which has established itself already in Peterborough’s Visitor Destination Centre. She is also organising the Art Village at the Willow Festival in May, which expects 50,000 visitors….so keep a look out for this great event.

Special thanks to Mark Wilson, Editor and Publisher of the ‘Moment’ magazine, for publishing my article and giving me a full page in this month’s issue. Thanks also to Darren Fower, for all the help and support over the past year, for suggesting painting Peter Boizot, and setting up the meeting.

Most recent painting

Well done to Sam and Nichola Jones, for their hard work and fundraising efforts. An event held in Feburary for Help for Heroes at the Woodman in Thorpewood.

Currently I am working on a variety of portraits. Here are a few of the more recent pastel drawings.

My most recent piece of work is this painting of local artist Alex North-Airey, which was only completed about a week ago. With the help of fellow artist Stacey Ann-Cole, aptly titled “Contemplating’. This painting was done specifically to enter in the portrait competition at the Mall Gallery. I can only say that I am really pleased with the final work and hope it will be well recieved by the judges. In between painting portraits, I have been doing little pastel drawings of fruits. This is just a nice way to have a little break, while working out what needs to be done to the portraits.

What’s On ! lA

Every picture tells a story, but the story here is not just about these fine people looking at my work. It’s more about the lady in the picture. While helping her farmer husband with a pregnant cow, it fell on her leg, breaking it. Not funny, but I had to get the story out of her.
