Preschool Music and Art Programs

March 25 — May 21

Be a part of CSMA’s Little Artists and Little Musicians classes! These preschool programs focus on sequential learning in music and visual arts with classes that continually build on concepts, skills and techniques. Most classes include parent or caregiver participation, providing a fun experience for both adult and child! At the end of each session, students can repeat the level with a new curriculum or move on to the next level depending on readiness and age.

In Little Artists and Little Musicians classes, preschoolers:

• Experiment and learn through fun, hands-on, creative activities • Discover new art mediums, musical instruments and more • Learn from a faculty of experienced early childhood educators • Nurture their natural, inner creativity and sense of exploration • Develop a lifelong love of learning!

In keeping with our commitment to Arts4All, CSMA offers tuition assistance to qualified students. To apply, contact our Student Services office or download the forms at Arts4All.org.

IN PERSON AT FINN CENTER

Currently, preschool classes are held in person at Finn Center. Students and faculty will be required to wear masks at all times. CSMA will meet or exceed all recommended county safety precautions.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

KEY: CSMA offers onsite music classes designated by the music note symbol ( ) and onsite art classes designated by the palette symbol ( ).

ATTENDANCE: Parent/ caregiver attendance is required for most preschool classes. See individual class descriptions.

AGES: Students must meet age requirements indicated.

CLASS SIZE: Maximum of 10 students per class (unless otherwise noted). Spring registration will close on March 16, 2022. Classes not meeting minimum registration will be canceled. CSMA reserves the right to cancel the course or to offer the class with an adjusted tuition rate, length and/or number of class meetings.

MATERIALS: All materials are supplied for preschool classes.

DRESS: Please wear comfortable clothes appropriate for movement, getting messy and making art. Students and faculty will be required to wear masks.

Little Artists

Little Artists 1: Art Explorers (2-3 years)

A class for our youngest artists! Young artists will have so much fun experimenting with materials including pastels, paints and more to explore line, shape and color. Projects draw inspiration from nature and favorite storybooks to create unique works of art. Please Note: Parent/caregiver participation is required. Each participating child should be registered; parent tuition included with child’s tuition.

Little Artists 2: Shape and Color (3-4 years)

Learn about renowned artists working across a range of media! Each week a different artist is featured and children are introduced to a variety of engaging materials and techniques. Follow the example of eminent artists and let your imagination and creativity soar! Please Note: Parent/caregiver attendance is optional. If you feel your child is ready, this is a drop off program.

Little Musicians

Little Musicians 1 (2-3 years)

This engaging family music program is designed as a first musical experience in a nurturing and creative environment. Little Musicians 1 explores musical contrasts, steady beat, rhythm and melody using fingerplays, action songs, basic instruments and movement. Each class is a mix of teacher-led activities and individual exploration. At the end of the session, children will feel a bond with the instructor, have confidence in a group situation, be aware of high/low, loud/soft, fast/slow and find these contrasts in voice, instrument and their environment. Please Note: Parent or caregiver attendance is required.

Little Musicians 2: Creative Music Makers (3-4 years)

This program is designed for children who are excited and curious about making music with their family and on their own. Little Musicians 2 introduces a variety of tempos, meters and tonalities while the students develop a pre-instrument vocabulary. Children will be encouraged to demonstrate original ideas for singing and movement, while families work in groups and pairs. At the end of the session, students will be able to play along with a steady beat, understand rhythmic notation and create and read rhythm patterns. Please Note: Parent or caregiver attendance is required.

FACULTY SPOTLIGHT

Chelsea Dumas

Chelsea Dumas earned her Bachelor of Music Education and Bachelor of Instrumental Performance from Alabama State University. There she received the Excellence in Musical Leadership Award in recognition of commitment to the musical life of others. She performed with the 2017 AMEA intercollegiate band, Alabama State University Wind Ensemble and the Alabama State University Mighty Marching Hornets where she played Piccolo. Chelsea is a member of various professional organizations such as the Alabama Music Educators Association, the Atlanta Flute Club and the National Association for Music Educators.

My goal is to create musicians in every classroom. I believe that the love of music starts at an early age. I want music to be a fun and excited experience for every child.”
