multicultural Singapore. More recently, she has focused on issues such as history, memory, communication and human relationships in urban environments. Her interdisciplinary approach to art-making has led to collaborations with people of different cultural backgrounds, including those from non-arts fields. Amanda's
entry
into
the
art
scene
happened relatively late in life. The former tax officer enrolled in a printmaking course at LASALLE College of the Arts in 1986, before becoming one of the founding members of the Artists Village in 1987. In 1990, she went on to study in London at the Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design, where she conducted research on the feminist art movement. In 1993, she graduated from Curtin University of Technology with a Bachelor of Arts (Fine Art) majoring in Sculpture. She co-founded her second artist group, WITA (Women in the Arts), in 1999. Over the last 30 years of her career, Amanda has been actively conceptualising, curating, organising and participating in
Story (TheatreWorks) and performed in A Woman in a Tree on the Hill (Wild Rice). She has exhibited extensively in Singapore and abroad, with recent shows including
Classic Contemporary (8Q, Singapore Art Museum), MM I Love You (Objectifs, Singapore) and Survey from Singapore (Toronto Free Gallery, Canada). Amanda has been invited to residency programmes which include the Singapore Tyler Print Institute, Fukuoka Asian Art Museum (japan), Australian National University, Artists Unlimited (Germany) and
the
Portland
Sculpture
Trust
(England). Her performances, collaborative interventions and installations have been featured in major galleries and festivals around the world - such as the Asia-Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art (Australia), the Tachikawa International Art Festival (japan), the Werkleitz Biennale (Germany) and the inaugural Singapore Biennale. A former lecturer at Nanyang Technological University and the National Institute of Education, Amanda sat on the selection and curatorial committee of the President's Young Talents Exhibition in 2009. She currently supervises Master of Arts students at LASALLE College of the Arts.
