Love Child Film screening of the romantic thriller, Love Child. Written and directed by Dominican born, Leticia Tonos and award winner of the Audience of the 27th Chicago Latino Film Festival. Leticia will be on hand for the viewing but will be leading a lecture and discussion about the movie the following evening (April 24) at 6:00pm in Alumnae Auditorium Admission: $5 for non Wellesley students. Monday, April 23 @ 6:30-8:30 pm Margaret Clapp Library Lecture Room Discussion with Letecia Tonos Dominican born Writer and Director, Liticia Tonos will be conducting a lecture and discussion following the previous evening’s screening of her award winning film “Love Child”. Love Child first premiered in Dominican Republic and won a prize for the Audience of 27th Chicago Latino Film Festival, and will be featured at the Festival De Cine De Las Americas, in Austin TX on April 26, 2012. It was also the Dominican Republic’s official entry into the Best Foreign Film Category at the 84th Academy Awards. Admission: $5 for non Wellesley students. Open to the public. Celluloid Cities Screen Slacker Celluloid Cities: Symphonies and Solos - A CAMS film series. The Cinema and Media Studies wishes to contribute to the campus wide interest in the theme of the city by showing five films. Ranging from ultra-famous films (Chunking Express, exceptionally shown in its 35 mm. splendor) to rare and hard-to-find little gems (Largo Viaje and Singapore Gaga); from Ruttmann’s mythical city symphony that initiated a whole genre to Linklater’s just as mythical tribute to Austin (and generation X), this Thursday evening film series wishes to reach all the cinephiles in the Wellesley College community and beyond, joining them in a common celebration of urban films. Music can conjure a sense of place, a culture, an ethos; its cadences can capture the heartbeat of a people in a particular landscape at a particular point in time. Triple Helix takes us back in time to 19th century Vienna, to trace the rich path of romanticism in this city that, over the centuries, spawned prodigious creative activity in all the arts. Chamber Music Marathon The Wellesley College Chamber Music Society (CMS) offers students the opportunity to explore and perform the classical repertoire for small ensembles—including strings, winds, guitar, harp, piano, harpsichord, and voice—and to be coached weekly by members of the Music Department faculty. Young visitors will participate in an interactive exploration of Bailey’s work, with its vibrant colors, unusual materials, dynamic compositions, and rich narratives, followed by art projects based on appropriation, accumulation, and layering.
