Artspace is looking for area artists to be a part of SCRAWL, a temporary site specific drawing exhibit/event to take place in February and March 2011. SCRAWL is designed celebrate large scale, embodied drawing in all its variety, allowing the upmost freedom to the participants. Derived from the surrealist’s “Exquisite Corpse” games, SCRAWL will manifest itself across the floors, walls and windows of Artspace. Using simple materials and their own ingenuity, artists will be asked to transform the space in a month-long festival of drawing. Professional artists may apply individually or in teams, and currently enrolled art students may apply as teams of three or more. Teams will be encouraged to develop identities and costumes/uniforms. This project requires patience, a sense of humor and ability to span a large area of physical space. Materials will be provided. While the work will be documented, all drawing will be painted over at the end of the exhibition- it is important that participating artists understand that this is an ephemeral project. To apply individually, please send: • (5) jpeg images of recent drawings, • a brief (one page or less ) statement, • a C.V.. To apply as a team (3 or more please): please send: • images of recent drawings per artist, • a team name, • a brief bio of each team member, no longer than one paragraph per person, and a • brief (1 page maximum) description of the team identity and proposed strategy for collaboration, for instance: ▪ will everyone work together on the drawing at once or will they switch off? ▪ will there be a leader, or will it be run collectively? ▪ what is the over arching aesthetic impulse of the team? Everyone: Please indicate what times you would be available to participate: afternoons/evenings/weekends. Email all submission materials, with SCRAWL in the header to: scrawl@artspacenh.org EXTENDED DEADLINE! All submissions should reach Artspace no later than midnight October 31st. All decisions will be sent out by November 12. Please do not call, please wait for the email response.
