EXHIBITIONS Sea Journey: Our land, our home When Islander Christian teachers came by boat from New Caledonia spreading the word of God, Erub leaders embraced their message. The Coming of the Light was to change the Torres Strait forever. The people of Erub are in a unique position to tell this little-known Australian story through a sea journey that took place 141 years ago. Sea Journey: Our land, our home recalls the momentous connection of Pacific histories to the Torres Strait triggered in 1871. This installation is realised through textiles, weaving and fabric printing, costume, body decoration and weaponry, modern and traditional sea craft and flotsam washed by ocean currents on to Pacific Islands.
