t thirty years of age, Telluride Gallery of Fine Art finds itself looking to the future -- to fresh exhibits, provocative artists, and beckoning horizons -- with the same sense of eagerness it did decades ago. Neither its remote location in Telluride (population 2,500, altitude 8,750 feet) nor its modest beginnings have kept it from bringing the highest caliber art and exhibitions to its permanent location in an historic 1898 Main Street building. The gallery’s success is attributable to a number of synergistic factors: its innocent sense of adventure, its dogged persistence, and the undeniable cache of its geographical location. It has pursued, collected and remained in touch with a substantial and influential group of artists, many of whom without hesitation once again accepted an invitation to reconnect with the gallery for this special retrospective show.

Longtime owners and staff alike have delighted in the commitment of serving both the little known artist as well as the more prominent and prestigious one. For twenty consecutive years, Telluride Gallery mounted the school district’s annual student art show. It has given countless regional artists a foot up, diligently served the local arts community, and happily collaborated with the region’s many non-profits. It has also leveraged relationships with a number of museums, both in selling and loaning work. Telluride Gallery of Fine Art invites you to enjoy the wide array of artists and their work in these pages, from installation and sculpture, to painting, photography and the very finest in studio jewelry. And it welcomes your next visit, through its red doors at 130 East Colorado Avenue, for whichever show happens to be taking place.
