Th e contemporary and visionary artist Lis Engel has been working with art since she was 12 years old when she had her first exhibition of oil paintings on The island Bornholm, where she was born. She now works as an international artist exhibiting in censured and free art events worldwide.

"My art is an investigation of relation and experience through painting and drawing. I am interested in deep states of experience as ways of intensifying the lived Now, lived memory, and lived vision. My focus is on honoring life.

My inspiration comes from walking and meditating on nature, music, poetry, literature, and sacred texts. I have learned from studying medieval, modern and contemporary art and understand life and art as doors to profound experiences of life and meaning. My art moves freely between the symbolic, playful, poetic, fantastic, expressive, and purely abstract. I work primarily with abstract and fantastic art. These two aspects of art are, for me, an open way of investigating realities of the figurative, the symbolic, the poetic, and the abstract, searching for ways to communicate experiences of aliveness, beauty, and the sublime.

I have been painting and drawing all my life. Besides, I have a scientific education from the University of Copenhagen and a Ph.D. and worked as an associate professor at the University of Copenhagen in bodymind arts until 2011. Besides, I have studied art in New York, Seattle, Paris, London, Rome, Firenze, and, of course, Denmark."
