BRING YOUR CAMERA!

1 Bonnie DeHart Showing at Studio By The Lake Custom Jewelry by Bonnie DeHart PO Box 577, Sandpoint, ID 83864 (208) 660-3825 WiredByBonnie@gmail.com www.WiredByBonnie.com I am, by God’s design, an artist. I see in the jewelry that I design, more than just pieces of wire, rocks, gemstones, or beads and thread. I see what many do not, a total and complete thing of beauty, unique in its creation. Each piece is an expression of the grand earth it was taken from. Working with silver, gold, copper and stainless steel, I capture this natural element in a sculpted artisan piece that collectors praise, and yet, surprisingly practical to wear every day! Just doesn’t get better than that! I create custom, unique pieces of jewelry for individual clients with my stones or theirs. Please see my web pages for ideas in designing your special piece as well.

2 Jerry Ferrara Cedar Glen Studio 1021 Hickey Road, Sandpoint, ID (208) 304-5393 www.FerraraWildlifePhotography.com My cameras and lenses are tools through which I recount stories. Each photographic print tells a visual tale, and the melding of capture with accompanying written words becomes a communion. The work I do, and have done professionally for nearly four decades, is about the beauty of Nature and all that is wild and free. If I can bring that elegance to your home or office, it would be my honor. All my photography is created entirely by me including printing the fine art products. Hope to see you.

3 Steve Gevurtz Steve Gevurtz Scultpture Studio 245 Kootenai Fourth Ave. Sandpoint, ID 83864 (509) 981-9125 slgevurtz@aol.com www.stevegevurtz.com The journey taken by each of my sculptures, from inspiration, to clay, to living bronze, lasts about 6 months. It is a fascinating process which I would be happy to explain and demonstrate for you. In the studio you will see several sculptures at various stages of completion as well as over 15 finished bronze pieces on display in the gallery and the adjoining lakeside sculpture garden. It is a beautiful and I hope inspiring setting and you are welcome to join us for the studio tour as well as a leisurely walk by the lake. Enjoy!

4 Mark & Lynn Gardner Mark and Lynn Gardner Studio 1420 N. Center Valley Rd • (208) 946-1699 lonesomedovedesigns@yahoo.com lonesomedovedesigns@etsy.com Mark and I are new to Sandpoint and excited to be a part of the Studio Tour. Torch Fired Enamel jewelry is our main focus. “Enameling combines my love of bold color, metalsmithing and melting enamel powder into glass. Its a thrill I never tire of.” Using a process called sgraffito we create unique pieces that set our work apart. Our pottery is both functional and whimsical. “Mark is inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright while I find inspiration from Hobbits. Our work will make you smile” is our promise.

5 Schweitzer Gallery Summer Gallery hours: Wednesdays - Sundays open 10am-5pm Closed Mondays and Tuesdays. (208) 265-1776 During the tour this gallery will highlight three artists: Carolyn Beckwith - Jewelry Julie Ellis - Glass and Painted Pottery Susie Pace - Glass Artist and Jewelry The Artists’ Studio at Schweitzer is a gallery and working Art Studio. Here you will find a variety of original work by local artisans participating in the Artists’ Studio Tour of North Idaho. This gallery has much for you to enjoy, it displays paintings, photography, textiles, jewelry, pottery, and fused glass and stained glass artwork from some of your favorite North Idaho Artists. It is also the working studio for Glass Artist and Jewelry Designer Susie Pace. The studio offers jewelry, glass fusing and pottery painting workshops (call for details). Demonstrations will be ongoing during the Tour.

5 Carolyn Beckwith Showing at Schweitzer Gallery (208) 691-6568 Carolyn@yahoo.com Creating in my studio is one of my favorite pastimes, along with being outdoors enjoying the beauty of nature. I love working with Sterling silver, pearls, natural gemstones and Swarovski crystals, designing necklaces, bracelets, earrings, zipper pulls and unique custom pieces. I am a fine arts & education graduate of Washington State University. “Sometimes I wake from dreaming of a new design and many times I walk into the studio and just have fun seeing where creativity takes me.” Occasionally a quail wanders through the open studio door to see what’s happening! Come to the Gallery and see my new creations.

5 Julie Ellis Showing at Schweitzer Gallery (208) 610-9985 ellisjul@gmail.com For me, my art is an escape down the rabbit hole . . . a whimsical place where fairies live & memories are found. Every piece is a one of a kind original, every brushstroke comes from the heart. It is my hope that others take my art home because it “speaks” to them.

5 Susie Pace Showing at Schweitzer Gallery (208) 946-0101 pace1821@yahoo.com Come to the Artist Studio and Gallery at Schweitzer Mountain. This is where you will find me working with glass, PMC silver and fine silver wire to create unique, handmade jewelry and other art pieces. I have a small kiln on site that is used to make beautiful glass cabochons and if you have time you can make one too! We offer workshops and classes at the Schweitzer Studio in both glass fusing and Silver Jewelry. I am certified in the art of PMC jewelry design and have a wonderful display of silver PMC, leaf pendants and earrings. You will also find jewelry pieces made from locally recycled bottles and beautifully fused dichroic glass. Come take a workshop or just take a look.

6 Julie Hutslar Julie Hutslar Studio 700 Caribou Creek Rd North Sandpoint (208) 263-1448 www.jrhutslar.com My art is my autobiography, my work reflects my life. “Paintings have a life of their own that derive from the painter’s soul,” as Vincent Van Gogh said and I choose to focus on that aspect of painting. My body of work varies widely depending upon what needs to be said and felt, from peaceful scenes of north Idaho mountains and streams reflecting light and color to distorted souls seeking redemption. Look for my new collection of vivid acrylics! For a complete viewing, visit my studio and the beautiful, expansive view overlooking two mountain ranges. Open til 6pm on Tour days. Visit my web page and calendar for watercolor workshop listings.

SANDPOINT DOVER

7

Kevin Watson Showing at Shibusa Studios 525 Oak St., Sandpoint (208) 696-0596 www.shibusastudios.com I like to combine seemingly disparate objects to make a coherent statement or express a concept. Sometimes, I make a game out of it and see how few elements are needed to complete a piece. It’s complete when nothing can be added or removed without changing the intended idea. The emotions and thoughts evoked by ordinary objects when used in unfamiliar ways are always intriguing. I like for a piece to have layers and to offer entreaties to viewers who are willing to spend a little time getting to know it and to engage in a dialogue of sorts.

7 Dion Williams Showing at Shibusa Studios 525 Oak St., Sandpoint • (208) 696-0596 www.shibusastudios.com At a certain moment the canvas began to appear to one American painter after another as an arena in which to act. What was to go on the canvas was not a picture but an event. ~ Harold Rosenberg I started my career creating painting commissions for clients. Since each client has a unique style and subject preference, I have been able to practice many variations of technique throughout the years. This process has become my form of artistic study and helped me define my personal style. To balance the structure and calculative techniques which are required to produce a commission, I seek spontaneity when creating my own works of art. Painting in the style of Abstract Expressionism allows me liberty to convey attitudes and emotions through nontraditional and often nonrepresentational means. In this way I can capture the spirit of my desired subject; as well as a full expression of myself.

8 Patricia Barkley Panhandle Art Glass 514 Pine Street Sandpoint, Idaho (208) 263-1721 pkbarkley@hotmail.com This past year I’ve remodeled the studio, inviting Shanna Thompson and her fine art frame shop, Toad Alley, to share the studio space. You’ll also see the latest hot glass experiments that I have begun with the help of Susie Pace. There are pot melt and screen melt elements to embellish my art glass objects. All the traditional art glass is still in the showroom, and yes I still have the two laughable poodles. The door is open and the treat jar is full, so come on in!

9 Rob Payne Creative Wood Ventures Studio 204 S. Florence Ave, Sandpoint Idaho Open 10 to 4 or by appointment (208) 265-1575 robb.pay@gmail.com robpayne.mobi For years of a desire to create a form of abstract art using recycled materials, working with a Canadian Interior Designer on a new home in the area recently, I’ve created “Patchwork.” Being impressed with my use of reclaimed wood as exterior siding and wall accents here at my studio, I was hired to create four large sliding interior doors and a wall panel. Artistically blending shapes, colors and different surface textures from my collection of reclaimed wood treasures, besides doors, I’ve created furnishings, cabinet exteriors and framed wall hangings of abstract art.

10 Kristie Sherrodd Blue Flag Handweaving Studio 1223-B Michigan, Sandpoint www.blueflagweaving.com (208) 263-4600 My textile art journey began in 1983 on vacation aboard an Alaska ferry. I saw very functional yet extremely beautiful hand knits and a desire to create similar textiles was born. Within two years I learned to knit, moved to Alaska and began to weave. Before moving to Sandpoint in 2007 I lived 22 years on a remote Alaska island and immersed myself in weaving with a majestic natural setting as inspiration. I strive for the exquisite functionality admired on that fortuitous ferry trip 31 years ago. I pursue elegant simplicity and meticulous craftsmanship, with texture and color more important than technically complex weaves. My textiles are typically serviceable with an aesthetic that goes beyond the merely useful.

11 George Rickert George Rickert Studio 315 S. Boyer (208) 610-2106 georgerickert@hotmail.com fullmoonsculptures.com I continue to make unusual abstract wood sculptures in my Sandpoint studio. You don’t see my work around town because these sculptures are so large (usually over 6’), it’s hard for galleries to accommodate them. I use an eclectic assortment of tools to carve which include fine Swiss gouges and a new King Arthur ‘Lancelot’, a spinning dervish (11,000 rpm), among others. Come by the studio and see what I’m working on now!

12 Nan Cooper Colored Horse Studio 377 Johnny Long Rd Sandpoint, Idaho (208) 265-9601 nanchanges@wildblue.net “Art is my way to secretly write argumentative love poems to the world. Always exploring, my work is tactile, layered and joyful: all color and rhythm.” My work has been included in the US Department of State’s, Art in Embassies Program. I earned undergraduate degrees in Painting and Art History at the University of California, and have taken a Master’s (MA) degree there. I then went on to earn a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) at the American University, Washington, DC. I was sponsored by Ray Kinstler into the Artists’ Relief Foundation in New York in 1989, and am the Festival at Sandpoint Artist for 2014.

12 Liliana Barbieri Showing at Colored Horse Studio (208) 610-2506 www.lilianabarbieri.com Bright colors, highlights and deep shadows, dancing flowers in a hot summer wind, a winter landscape dotted with snowflakes swirling in the sky, bright moonlight, or a warm sunshine; all these are subjects of my paintings that tell stories about things that touch my heart. I was born in Poland greatly influenced by my grandmother’s love for her gardens and nature, followed by incredible 20+ years in San Francisco, to finally arrive in Sandpoint to enjoy my two passions: painting and skiing.

12 Lynne Campell Showing at Colored Horse Studio (208) 265-4755 lynne@lightplayimages.net I became intrigued with photography as a young woman, traveling overseas with an old Leica given to me by my father. It would be years later, however, after setting aside a career in advertising, that I would pursue it seriously. I see the world differently now... with more attention to nuance and detail, and the constant, often minute, changes occurring around us. Photographing the natural world has become a kind of meditation through which I experience beauty and joy, which I hope to convey through my work.

13 Connie Scherr Scherr Haven Studio 333 Birch Haven Dr. Sagle, Idaho 83860 (208) 290-7570 “Certain things catch your eye, but pursue only those that capture the heart. ~Ancient Indian Proverb Call me crazy, but I can find beauty in an old pair of holey sneakers or sweaty ball cap. Chances are a precious little boy took many a hike with his dad wearing those sneakers. That is what I choose to see. That captures my heart strings and becomes a painting with emotion and love. Please come by my studio, drive or boat over and see what has captured my heart this past year.

13 Pauline Ehly Showing at Scherr Haven Studio (208) 263-6275 mpaulineehly@hotmail.com Having a passion for all things metal, fiber and textile related . . . I never cease to delight my clientele with one-of-a-kind wearable art. My work continues to evolve, incorporating a new variety of natural elements into my jewelry. This new line includes a variety of metals and select ocean, river and lake minerals. Welcoming visitors throughout the year at my studio by appointment.

14 Barbara Field Perceptions Studio 375 W Garfield Bay Road, Sagle, Idaho (208) 263-7924 perceptions-in-art.com barbf253@aol.com Selected rhythms, color and mood are reflected in my northwest water media paintings. My perceptions of cascading waterfalls, a misty boat anchorage or a spacedefying ski jump are a few of the stories I love to tell. As a high honors fine arts graduate with considerable experience as an art teacher and school administrator, I now return to my painting passion. Travel to my waterfront studio and discover my real inspirational source.

15 Mary Gayle Young Earth Wear Designs 1591 Garfield Bay Rd., Sagle, Idaho (208) 263-6782 earthweardesigns@ dishmail.net Moving to Garfield Bay in 2007 has blessed me into a new awareness of the beauty and magic of the natural world. My favorite materials are antlers, porcupine quills, birch bark, pine cones and discarded metals.Using both cold and heated connections and a 30 year collection of gems to create my designs. I know the creativity and happiness I feel shows in my work. Please visit my studio during the tour or by appointment. You can come by boat, bicycle or car! Located above Odies Bayside Grocery in Garfield Bay.

15 Lucy West Showing at Earth Wear Studio (509) 251-9215 LucyWestStudios.com lucyweststudios@ gmail.com For me, creating a painting often feels equivalent to taking an exotic excursion into mysterious lands where I am awed at the discovery of the unexpected along the way. Through creativity I explore all that I am curious about, and investigate our miraculous world within a remarkable universe. I learn something new with each journey as I travel across my canvases.

16 Kathy Gavin Kathy Gavin Fine Arts Studio 109 Raven View Drive, Sagle (208) 265-7967 www.kathygavinfineart.com My inspiration begins as I look out from my studio at the spectacular view of Lake Pend Oreille and the Monarch Mountains. The view is ever changing not only from day to day but sometimes from minute to minute! It still amazes me when I transform a blank canvas into something beautiful for you and others to enjoy. The image starts to emerge; the colors pop and then becomes harmonious. I am now in the zone......... I try to paint daily, so there will be many new paintings for you to see, including the one I will be working on during the Tour.

17 Glenda Kochen Studio at Muskrat Lake 142 Maria Pia Lane, Sagle (602) 999-3075 glennsglass@cox.net glennsglass123@gmail.com Etsy.com/shop/glennsglass For over 20 years I’ve been on a journey with glass. With each new technique I grow, yet there’s always more to discover. I have brought with me artistries that have never been seen in Idaho. Awe-inspiring dichroic bowls that tell a story inand-of themselves, Dichroic bevels that take your breath away, copper and solder overlays that capture the beauty that surrounds us, as well as wearable art in the form of jewelry. As I re-invent myself (daily) I stumble across new and exciting ways to live, love and laugh with glass. Come visit me at my new 1400 square foot studio on the shores of Muskrat Lake.

17 Sally Dennison Showing at Studio at Muskrat Lake (208) 597-4546 • (602) 999-3075 sallydennison.org Ten years ago, upon moving to Sandpoint, I began combining recycled pieces of nature and layers of paint into 3-D whimsical treasures. Each painting is unique and tells a story about the glory of being a leaf or flower; or the crisp perspective of the apple. They evolve and change every day of creation; no two are alike and you will never know what you will find tucked away under a blossom. I am inspired by the shapes and colors of nature in the awesome area I live in. Thanks to the encouragement and support of my peers, my work can be seen at Art Works, Artists Studio at Schweitzr and POAC exhibitions. I invite you to come exlore the adventures of my “Whimsical Art” and share the riot of color you will experience at Glenda Kochen’s Glass Studio.

17 Foster Cline Showing at Studio at Muskrat Lake (208) 265-1519 fostercline@gmail.com What a blessing to live here in Bonner County, Idaho in the midst of “the jpg moment!” Everywhere I cast a glance there is something that calls, “Snap a shot here” or “Take me” or “Get out your camera right now!” I started taking pictures when my parents gave me a Kodak Baby Brownie when I was 7. As a child I played in my darkroom and ever since those dark room days, black and white pictures have intrigued me. Black and white shows the bones and infrastructure; the texture and foundations and underlying reality of God’s world. Color simply dresses it up. During my professional life, writing and producing the Love and Logic materials for parents and teachers, I never ceased taking pictures, growing and changing as technology transformed photography. Now, my laptop contains the color darkroom of my childhood dreams. Credit really goes to the hidden and unrecognized souls, all across the world, that provide the technology and magic that allows me to respond to that call, “Hey, take a picture here!”

17 Joanne Walker Showing at Studio at Muskrat Lake JCW Design Studio • (949) 280-9288 jcwdesigns@live.com I love to create bold, interesting jewelry by turning flat sterling silver sheets and wire into three-dimensional creations by sawing, sanding, filing, texturing and shaping it into jewelry that makes a statement and that people enjoy wearing. I’m new in the area and take every opportunity to view and bond with nature from my perch in my home studio.I look forward to meeting and serving many new friends in the Sandpoint community.

18 Jerry Yates Lake Shore Lavender Farm and Studio 9969 Lakeshore Drive, Sagle (208) 263-1476 Yatesassoc@yahoo.com My Mother was a published poet and oil painter and instilled into her children a love of art. I in turn have followed the families creative path.Afer my service in the Navy I completed a degree in Architecture at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, followed with a Masters degree in Art from Indiana State University. I began teaching in 1975 and later became Chairman of the Interior Architectural Design Department at California State University. Among the design classes in my vitae related to my current interests, were drawing and watercolor rendering. And thus began my interest and later passion for painting in watercolor. I ended that career as Emeritus Professor in 2010. After designing and illustrating Architecture and Commercial Interior projects for many years I have returned to watercolor to paint subjects which I am personally interest in. Like most artists I love natural subjects and truly enjoy the regional beauty of North Idaho and the architecture of her past. We have moved to idyllic Northern Idaho to immerse ourselves in nature, gardening, lavender farming, snow skiing and the arts.

18 Sharon Yates Lake Shore Lavender Farm and Studio 9969 Lakeshore Drive, Sagle (208) 263-1476 Yatesassoc2@yahoo.com Arriving in North Idaho, how could I not dust off my pastels immediately? My first few years here I worked quietly in my studio on several bodies of diary-like, introspective works. I’ve continued to grow within this form of pastel since my original days at University. Last summer I was invited to join a plein air group and discovered the joy and engagement of working directly in the hills and meadows. These works are not just artistic, they are memories of birdsong, changing light, the scent of forest and meadow, and the conversation and laughter of new friends. Living here in Sandpoint area has caused a surge of creativity that I am grateful for each and every day. This is a perfect place to call home, as an artist.

19 Kim Powers Kim Powers Studio 6095 Dufort Rd., Sagle (509) 869-4230 Kimpowers12@me.com I work in abstract, using oils, fabric and natural objects to create rich three dimensional images full of layering and color. My works invites viewers to go places that are familiar and yet a new experience. My father a well known architect Bruce Walker, raised me to appreciate and integrate design, color, and shape. I produce art that provides a joyful and positive experience.

All visitors are welcome before and after Artists’ Studio Tour by appointment

Lost on the tour? Call (208) 265-1776 Two weekends every August the Artists’ Studio Tour has been a great way to explore not only the wonderful Studios in the Sandpoint area but also the rivers, lakes, mountains and back roads of Northern Idaho. This brochure, our website and your own transportation is all you need to spend the weekends enjoying fine art, stimulating conversation and great restaurants. It has been so exciting to work with the new artists each year and the accomplished core artists and their ever changing Studios and artistry. How lucky we are to be able to enjoy their friendship, art and Studios. ~ Petja Scheele ASTI Director
