ARUN KUMAR MURTHY ARCHITECTURAL PORTFOLIO
I was supposed to write something about me and what I could contribute. This portfolio will show minimal light on how good a student i’ve been, but will clearly define what my ideology is and the way I think about architecture. I’m Arun, a to be architect who sees architecture as an art and art only. With deep interests in architectural journalism and conservation architecture I might represent myself outdated but no, every time I get shunned, I find a way, one way or another and yes, I’ve published a book when I was 14 years old ‘Outline’. I look up at very few people, Le Corbusier and Mani Ratnam being my role models.

SENTIMENT With everyone looking for modern buildings, the downfall in regional and traditional buildings have been remarkable. What's the value in we building structures that won't reveal our identity? Will you be okay if an Italian restaurant serves Pani Puri and Biryani. No matter how modern we get, no matter how strong our idea of mass development is, without possessing the characters of our culture, I don't see value in what we build. Traditional houses are rare, we'd see some hanging around in the Sivaganga districts and the Eastern Coimbatore area but honestly what we did to our architectural policies is nothing but diluting a potion which makes us believe that we are wrong within ourselves. A modern building can never outshine a vernacular building. Vernacular and traditional buildings are there for years and will be there for years even if you don't care about it. We can go around places, we can read everything we want, we can envy all the stars but it's home where we should come back. We are growing as a part of a 'Developing country' but failing as individuals.

Focusing on a single U-shaped volume that makes full use of the site as well as the use of local materials, reduced energy use, and enhanced thermal performance. I designed this as a single, large structure where administration and production spaces were integrated under one roof, breaking down hierarchies between front and back-of-house functions. The form of the building conveys its function, its U-shape responding to the demands of the production line, from inception to the packaging and dispatch of the garments. The western wall is a mere and half thick. Yes, you read it right, 1.5 meter. The concrete block wall retains the heat that’s been thrown at the building. The wall has punctures, which is totally inspired from Le Corbusier. The small gaps lets in minimal heat but maximum light. The thick wall space is used for storage.

CORBUSIER, CHENNAI
The exposed and open South Western facade, three internal courtyards, as well as gardens and light wells give each user access to natural light and views of nature, and the spaces also provide recreational areas for the workers.
Mixing cultural history of Trichy and contemporary technology makes this open luxury hotel one of a kind. By open I don’t read literal open-ness but closed openness. With a courtyard opening up and a complete service floor in the penultimate floor dedicated to urban farming and towards green architecture. This building will represent itself as something that’s a fusion of both contemporary and green architecture.
L UXURY HOTEL 2. URBAN FARMING, TRICHY
The Restaurant has a highly interactive and participatory culinary experience. Guests would have access to an open kitchen where they’d collaborate with the chefs, also having the option of bringing some of their own ingredients to supplement and experiment with the restaurant’s basic recipes.

In the hotels context, hydroponic planting system seems to be the preferred way of doing it. The soilless planting system is not only space saving but it is also water and time saving.

WASTE MANAGEMENT The food waste from the hotel and the landscape wastes i.e. leaves, broken branches are filled in for composting. This increases the green measure of the building. the vertical farming technology includes hydroponics which uses 70 percent lesser water than normal agriculture. Aeroponics will also be used which consumes 70 percent less water compared to hydroponics. Urban wastes like black water will be composted, recycled and used for farming inside the building. Sewage sludge will be converted to topsoil and processed for the extraction of water for agricultural use or drinking water.

Urban farming forces farmers to grow crop in an even more controlled and conscious manner, which leads to more possibilities to grow organic food without extra investment. How is it possible? The main reason something isn't organic is because the farmer is forced to use chemical pesticides to ensure a good yield when the environmental factors are not crop-friendly. As we mentioned above, the weather, the environmental factor is reduced to minimum in urban farming, so there is no actual need for using chemical growth regulators. All it takes a good quality soil that contains nutrients(and as we can see from our smart soil, there is no need to use harsh chemicals to ensure 99.9% productivity). Excellent lighting system and good quality
Parrys one name Madras is unlikely to forget is situated
near the madras port at the intersection of the north beach and NSC Bose road. The history of the place dates back to the year 1787. When a young welsh Merchant-Thomas parry set up the end parry company. It was and this is an important area for banking, trading and a major hub for increasing bus service. The architectural uniqueness of the place is revealed by the Indo-Saracenic structures. Parrys, the second old business. The street living/homelessness being the main social evil found in the site, the concept that was chosen is that the site having a lot of heritage, culture and history can itself serve as a tourist attraction though it is now poorly maintained. Tourism is used as a tool to abolish the street living and glorifying which will consider the street vendors retail shops and godowns thereby providing a better working condition.

THE BRIEF READ TO DOCUMENT AND STUDY A COMPLETELY SACRED AND CELEBRATED TEMPLE WHICH IS BEING TAKEN CARE OF AND WAS RENOVATED RECENTLY. KAILASANDHAR TEMPLE IN KANCHEEPURAM AMAZED US BY THE RICH HISTORY AND THE CHARACTER IT POSSESSED. HINDU TEMPLES ARE ONE OF THE BEST EXAMPLE OF FRACTAL BUILDINGS WHICH WERE CONSTRUCTED IN THE PAST, FAR BEFORE THE BIRTH OF FRACTAL THEORY AND MANIFESTED THE RELIGIOUS COSMIC VISIONS.

THE NEWLY CONSTRUCTED ARDHAMANDAPA STANDS IN BETWEEN THE MANDATE AND THE GARBHAGRAHA. LION BEING THEIR MASCOT WAS A REPETITIVE ELEMENT IN ALL THE PILLARS.THE PRESENCE OF THE LAMP POST INDICATES THAT THE IMAGE IS
15 YEARS OLD AND ALSO DENOTED
THE RECENT CONSTRUCTION OF THE ARDHAMANDAPA.
THE EXQUISITE PILLARS WITH
THE LION HEAD ARE A REMARKABLE SET OF CARVING DONE DURING THE PERIOD OF TIME.THE LAMP POSTS WERE LATER REMOVED IN ORDER FOR EASY OF CIRCULATION AROUND THE TEMPLE.
