Location & Context •The water-front site under consideration is located north of 8th Ave S.E, and along the 12 Street S.E. Bridge that spans the Bow River on the south side of St. George's Island.

•Situated in Inglewood, this site portrays a great level of accessibility as it takes no more than a 15-minute drive to get to some significant locations in the city such as - Memorial drive, Fort Calgary, East Village, St. George’s Island, Calgary zoo, and Ramsay neighborhood.

•Also, the sloped nature of the sight providing panoramic views of the Bow river, •A and it’s existence along the historic 12th st. bridge is an opportunity to design a masterpiece at the centre of the city. However, one of the main challenges to the design is that part of the site is on a flood fringe.

Jacques Pointe Master-plan

Mplan- Winter 2019

Design and Planning concept

The Jacques Pointe Masterplan is a vision for Calgary’s first inter-generational community as a place where all age groups can learn from each other, and engage in a network of social interaction. (It is a marriage of three concepts proposed by the three team members in the initial design stages.) Plan 01: social cohesion through a fine-grain block pattern, and a central green space as a unifying element. Plan 02: universal accessibility, using a mid-block weave pattern and pedestrian only streets where a people mover circuit was introduced. Location: Shagganappi Golf course and Westbrook area, Calgary

Plan 03: Economic inclusivity for older generations, and opportunities for learning. This plan features a research-park style vision. Potential uses included a research facility, co-working spaces, and commercial blocks. This plan was restricted to Westbrook Mall area to act as an anchor for the community.

Role: Worked in a team of 3 MPlan students. Assisted in the analysis, concept development, diagramming, and prepared the final masterplan, sections and detail plans. Concept sketch for the Westbrook Station Area 0

Node 01: Shaganappi station The development will gratify the LRT investment and increase the ridership at Shaganappi Station by introducing a diverse set of housing typologies and commercial facilities. Narrowing Bow Trail one lane in each direction, and implementing a lane reversal strategy would result in a safer pedestrian crossing and a unification among surrounding communities.

Node 02: Alder circle & Black Plume Park Alder Street will be a commercial high street for Jacques Pointe. The linear Black Plume Park will act as an extension of Edworthy Park that is more manicured, and accessible for people with a range of mobility levels. Residential (low Density)

MASTER PLAN STRATEGY Following 3 fire pattern typologies, the burn lines were created after analysis of the existing site features: Weaselhead flats, boundaries established by the ring road, and existing urban edge. The manifestation of “the burn lines” began with the creation of these primary fire corridors. Intersecting “burn lines” form patches, which spark public spaces and social activities that foster cultural, educational, and economic growth. The South side emphasizes the values of living close to family, elders, and places to practice traditional knowledge linked with a direct connection to the land. The North side looks towards a future tied to various economic hubs and functions as a regional destination, drawing investment, visitors, and providing a platform for indigenous entrepreneurship and cross-cultural exchange. This new and unconventional approach to planning and design is motivated by Tsuu T’ina culture, and integrates the fundamentals of spatial planning and organization into urban form.

Growing architecture As time progresses and the “burns age, the developments first introduced will continue to grow and bring prosperity to the nation. By implementing a stackable architectural strategy with a variable material palette, a visual understanding of the growth of the Nation emerges.
