Creative Writing

Colour My World ‘The Writer’s Choice’ by Colour My World is a creative writing workshop with a difference. We look at writing as a form of expression, or as Voltaire dubbed it: ‘the painting of the voice.’ If you pay attention to the order and language of your written words, you are really watching your thoughts. With this foremost in mind, we explore creative and formal writing in some of its many forms, including the short story, persuasive writing, informative articles, script writing and poetry, while closely observing language, tone, rhythm and meaning. These subjects are a tried-andtested blend both of formal and informal writing, and will allow participants to see the practical applications of writing both in and outside of Academia. We engage our students on weekly basis to: •

Observe a carefully curated piece of written or visual material

Brainstorm ideas through activities and games

Choose their most interesting ideas to move into the drafting phase

Share their work and receive peer-to-peer reviews

Submit drafts for guidance and review by the facilitator

Edit and complete their piece with guidance from the instructor

Workshop outcomes: The completed piece could take the form of a printed page, a blog post, a persuasive poster, an oral presentation or a short performance of participants’ work.

French

French A fun, creative introduction to French led by native speakers! Young people who experience an additional language in a pleasurable context are likely to become self-motivated and retain what they have learned. Our students enjoy expressing their individual style through drama, music, games and artwork. The class adopts an immersion model, so the facilitators speak almost entirely in French. We reflect in English at the end of each class to ensure everyone’s needs are met. Open to all motivated students regardless of developmental level in the language, the classes cater to those who have not had extensive exposure to French as an additional language and to those who wish to benefit from additional time practicing. Students who enroll over several terms encounter an appropriate balance between new and repeated material in order to maintain interest and deepen skills. Since the classes are team-taught, sub-groups can be formed to cater to diverse interests and skills. We aim to maintain an atmosphere of intrigue and adventure - rather than one of academic study - modeling anticipated student outcomes in the form of skits,

Mini Mandarins

Mini Mandarins Mini Foundations

Mini Foundations is designed to provide a total Mandarin immersion experience for students. It is particularly effective for those who need to build confidence in learning and using Mandarin. Our lessons use an innovative yet practical approach to engage children in developing interest in speaking Mandarin. Practice through imaginative play at our themed area, “Mini Metro”, enables children to apply Mandarin in real-life scenarios and settings, such as at a supermarket, restaurant, or veterinarian’s office. Together with songs, stories and games professionally taught by our native Mandarin speaking teachers, students quickly build up a solid foundation of Chinese vocabulary and phrases which they can apply in their daily lives. Our programmes integrate three key elements: Learn We teach in small group classes so our native Mandarin teachers can spend quality time with every student. We focus on listening and oral speaking, with elements of writing and recognition of Chinese characters to develop a strong foundation for your child’s mastery of Mandarin. Play With the vocabulary under their belts, children are ready to apply what they’ve learned into practice mode. To achieve this, the classroom is designed

Robotics Robo Tech RoboTech – Logical Kids (ages 5-6)

Can one “teach” logic and critical thinking? As they are not mere information that one can learn through memorization, but more a state of mind, conventional “studying” may not be able to achieve that. In this day and age, as information becomes easily accessible, more demands are placed on developing the capacity to apply knowledge. Studies have shown that certain activities can help develop the cognitive domain in a child’s mind. Hence, Logical Kids has seized this opportunity and developed this programme to help enhance logical thinking in kids. By using logic boards and simple programming blocks, we will guide children to become systematic and logical thinkers. With over 55 years of developing educational materials in Japan, our course uses an award winning patented building module to construct the different projects. This building system, versus conventional blocks, adds tremendous sophistication and creativity in all projects. This is a foundation course for children to develop the following crucial skills in: •

Logical Thinking

Spatial Recognition

Reasoning and Perseverance

RoboTech – Robotic Kids (ages 7-10) We feature (i) our patented Building Modules for dynamic construction, (ii) an OpenSource Programming Environment - where children can drag and drop icons or convert any Scratch programs into Arduino systems, and (iii) an Open-Source Board where we

Inline Skating

Go Sport Created in 2008, Go Sport is committed to offering quality inline skating and

hockey programmes to children of various ages, abilities and backgrounds. We

strive to facilitate a healthy lifestyle which aids the development of social skills and promotes learning in a fun, active and positive environment. Inline Skating

The skating portion is designed for children of all skill levels. Those

with little or no skating experience will cover safety, balancing, stopping,

swizzles and backward skating. More experienced skaters will be challenged with advanced skills like backward crossovers, parallel turns and pivots. All

children will be taught about skate maintenance and how to tackle stairs and obstacles to help prepare them for skating outside the school environment. This class is guaranteed to rock (and roll)! Inline Hockey

This class is for experienced skaters or new students up for the challange who want to try one of the fastest growing sports in Hong Kong. Classes focus

on refining skating skills and developing stick handling, passing and shooting techniques. Short matches are played to introduce specific tactics and help develop positioning and team play. We also try to organise an end of term

Moo Kwang Taekwondo Moo Kwang Taekwondo was founded by Grand Master Tae E. Lee, 9th Dan Black Belt of World Taekwondo Federation

(W.T.F.) in Canada. The interpretation of the words themselves are: “MOO” is non-stop and eternal, “KWANG” is brightness, “TAE” refers to the feet, “KWON” refers to the hands and “DO” means method or way. Students are expected to

follow five basic tenets of Taekwondo: courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self control and loyalty.

Skills will be taught based upon various belts, in a fun and interesting way. Students will be taught basic techniques

including stance, blocking, punching, striking, kicking, free

sparring and self-defense. They will have the opportunity to progress through the belt stages. Through the Moo Kwang Taekwondo system students will learn to handle conflict

through peaceful means and also improve their confidence, focus and self control. Instructor: Master Yu

the past twenty five years PPTA coaches have taught a number of professional players, NCAA Collegiate players, European ranked juniors and highly ranked juniors in Hong Kong, Australia, and the USA. We use the most modern teaching methodologies to ensure student enjoyment and success.

Beginner A fun way to kick-start your tennis journey, the Beginner programme is designed for players with limited or no experience. This course teaches you the basic fundamentals of tennis, as well as the basics of scoring and positioning. Graduate The graduate programme is designed for players who have developed some basic tennis skills and are capable of hitting an oncoming ball regularly, rallying the ball with limited movement and serving the ball into play. Graduate players should be comfortable with basic match play. Intermediate Can you hit the ball with control, sustain a short rally at slow pace and are capable of serving the ball into play at pace? Then the intermediate programme is for you! This is the ideal programme to help you make that crucial step from an intermediate to an advanced player. Advanced The advanced programme is designed for players who exhibit aggressive ground strokes and can play a set of tennis. Players have improved court coverage and are able to place the ball accurately at all levels of the court. Junior players show forceful shot play in singles and doubles and can serve the ball with pace and top-spin. Competitive Match Play Emphasis is learning through competing. Match Play is the perfect programme for advanced and junior tournament players i.e. players wanting to enter at Novice / Junior Series Competitions in Hong Kong and wanting to go to the next level and secure greater match success. Sharpen your game & fine tune your match play & strategy. We recommend enrolling twice a week to get the maximum benefit for your game. This programme is ideal for players looking to play for CDNIS in the ISSFHK Competition or have greater ambitions of going to SEASAC. Transport All Tennis activities take place at the Aberdeen Squash and Tennis Centre. The bus departs CDNIS at 2:45pm and returns at 4:00pm. *Price for Non-CDNIS
