Celebrate the Young Child Conference Saturday, March 17, 2018

Plenary Session/Sesión Plenaria: 8:00 AM – 9:30 AM

R-E-S-P-E-C-T (Right to Emotional Support, Positive self-image, Empathy, Caring, and Time). RESPECT-ing ourselves? Learn strategies for turning pain into possibilities, mistakes into wisdom, and broken hearts into artful professionalism.

As early childhood educators, we often criticize ourselves harshly while giving love and credit unconditionally. We deserve the same care and respect. Do you want to learn how to be generously gentle to yourself? Begin by asking yourself three RESPECT-fully liberating questions as soon as you begin to say “I can’t” or “I’m not___ enough”. Children learn from our example – we are child’s curriculum. Let’s model RESPECT.

Session One/Sesión Uno: 9:45 AM – 11:15 AM 1. A Positive Approach to Social and Emotional Learning Interactive session includes project based lessons and movement activities to engage and inspire students. Experiential learning and identification and application of The Be Kind Pledge™. Shelley Jackson, School and Family Projects Coordinator, Be Kind People Project; Anthony Kelly, Word Choreographer & Content Development Specialist, Be Kind People Project. 2. Respecting Maternal and Paternal Parenting Styles Maternal instincts are different from paternal instincts. This workshop presents strategies to recognize and respect the benefits of these differences in your service delivery. Neil Tift, Training Coordinator, Native American Fatherhood and Families Association. 3. Observation: Taking a New Perspective Utilizing observations by transforming them into usable data to improve outcomes for young children. Tiffany Liddell, Association Montessori International Trainer in Training, Southwest Institute of Montessori Studies. 4. Patti Longman, Statewide Trainer, Association for Supportive Child Care; Bonnie Spencer, Statewide Trainer, Association for Supportive Child Care. 5. The participants will enhance their professional knowledge by identifying three key elements of daily transitions. Ron Muhl, Lead Educational Presenter, Lakeshore Learning Materials. 7. Marissa Calderon, Early Childhood Consultant, Early Childhood Journeys, LLC.

8. Your Calling or Just Job: Reclaiming Your Passion for Everyday Work ! When our work starts to feel like “just another job”, we know it’s time for change. What happened to our passion? Not to worry: your “calling” never abandons you. We need to create a clearing where we can once again hear our calling, rather than dismiss it. Research says happiness at work does not depend on our salary, but on “doing work that aligns with our deeply embedded life interest”. Are you ready for a tune up? Holly Elissa Bruno, MA, JD.
