To celebrate and encourage others to adopt more Piedmont prairie areas in their own landscape, we are selecting a native Plant of the Year that we hope you will consider planting.

one of the rarest plant communities in the Southeast and including the federally endangered Schweinitz's sunflower, embracing new resources techniques and best practices in the areas converted to prairie.

This past year also brought a renewed focus of the Greenway’s own environmental impact as visitor numbers have soared and new amenities like the Greenway Gateway have been added. To employ best practices for stormwater management, a retention pond was installed at the Lake Haigler entrance, helping to collect stormwater properly and mitigate the erosion issues caused by runoff and that negatively impact our watershed. Additional plunge pools will be installed down toward Steele Creek to allow stormwater runoff from the Gateway and surrounding developments to dissipate drainage and decrease water volume and velocity.
