ANNOUNCES PLATINUM JUBILEE PLANS FOR 2022

Ascot Racecourse is delighted to announce a series of special celebrations in honour of Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

Synonymous with excellence and steeped in history, the spectacle that is Royal Ascot promises to bring five days of high-drama and sporting excitement to viewers, further enhanced this year with the newly named Platinum Jubilee Stakes on Saturday, tree plantings as part of The Queen’s Green Canopy campaign, and a one-off closing party around the Ascot Bandstand to close the event following racing on Saturday. Over the course of the Royal Meeting, recognition will be made to Her Majesty across all areas of the racecourse, including a Landau Carriage and Silver Rolls Royce on display from the Royal Household and a specially designed flower wall inspired by Her Majesty The Queen’s Coronation and Platinum Jubilee.

70 new oak trees have been planted in Windsor Great Park, as part of The Queen’s Green Canopy “Plant a tree for the Jubilee” project. On Tuesday 10th May, each tree was dedicated to one of 70 local schools, marking each year of Her Majesty The Queen’s reign. In keeping with previous Jubilee celebrations, the Group 1 six-furlong sprint on Saturday’s card has been renamed the Platinum Jubilee Stakes having been run as the Golden Jubilee Stakes from 2002 and then the Diamond Jubilee Stakes from 2012. The race is one of the feature contests of the week and this year it will be worth £1 million in prize money for the first time ever. The racecourse’s charitable division – Ascot Racecourse Supports – will run a ballot which will donate 500 pairs of tickets to local residents and will welcome the Armed Forces Charities and their volunteers on Wednesday and Friday and offer two-for-one tickets to military personnel on those days. Ascot was the headline sponsor of Sunninghill & Ascot Parish Council’s Party in the Park which included music, food and entertainment, culminating in a ‘lighting of the Beacon’ – a national event with 1,500 simultaneous beacons being lit across the UK.

The week will draw to an end with a Platinum Jubilee themed closing party for guests in the Royal Enclosure and Queen Anne Enclosure on Saturday with live performances centred around the Ascot Bandstand.
