The 2023 Annual Conference and EXPO was a huge success
It was fantastic to have so many of you join us at ASC's 2023 Annual Convention and EXPO last month in New Orleans, Louisiana. The turnout was phenomenal with around 800 attendees – the highest since pre-pandemic –enjoying the meeting in a very sunny New Orleans.
The Hyatt Regency New Orleans proved an excellent venue and hosted a range of interesting discussion topics, some great opportunities for networking, and several occasions when we were able to let our hair down and enjoy the social events. with many speakers highlighting the ways our world has been transformed of late and the opportunities that are arising because of it.
Being in New Orleans, we couldn't go without marking the occasion with our very own Mardi Gras opening reception. Accompanied by a live jazz band, attendees were able to enjoy some Creole cuisine and catch up with friends and colleagues.
It was the first time ASC had held the Convention in the historic city and it certainly exceeded our expectations.
There were many standout presentations spread over the three days, with topics covering everything from recycling and material selection to digitalization.

The atmosphere was fantastic and it was reassuring that despite the difficulties that have been affecting our industry and beyond these past few years, the mood of those in attendance was very upbeat and positive This year's theme –
Together Navigating Through Change
We were even able to venture out of the hotel to enjoy a bus tour of the nearby Port of New Orleans and learn about the inner workings of this vital link in the supply chain. The event opened with a very engaging presentation outlining her seven rules of leadership from Susan O'Malley, former President of the Washington Sports and professional sports franchise.
Among our other keynotes was Dr. Michael Okoroafor from McCormick & Company who talked about Environmental, Social, and Governance and how to futureproof your business.
Dr. Malik Thompson from NASA also provided some great examples of how our industry is pushing the boundaries with innovation. He also talked us through how integral adhesives and sealants are to the design of jet propulsion rockets and the vehicles that will be eventually be heading to the moon – and even Mars – in the coming years And talking of innovation, another particular highlight was announcing the winners of this year's Innovation Awards. Again, the standard of entries was really high and we had some excellent entries (see page 7).
As ever, our EXPO proved a popular draw during the event, with exhibitors filling the room and showcasing their products and services.
The popular ASC Gives Back community event also made a welcome return, with a fun afternoon spent outside to help paint picnic tables and shelters, and clear hiking trails at the local Bayou Sauvage Urban National Wildlife Refuge.
