ting activities of the PCC, FASB, ASB and ARSC. Not only will this course bring you upto-date on the requirements, it also provides you with many hands-on examples and illustrations to help you apply the guidance in practice. You’ll learn about the latest standards, exposure drafts, and guidance focusing on issues applicable to accountants and attestation practitioners in public accounting and private industry. This course also includes a compilation, preparation, and review update specifically covering the newly effective SSARS No. 21, Clarification and Recodification, and recent attestation matters on the radar.
A go-to reference for training staff and managing your preparation, compilation, and review engagements, this course will enable you to be in compliance with all of the professional standards surrounding engagements performed in accordance with Statements on Standards for Accounting and Review Services (SSARSs). A practice-oriented review of the latest developments, cases, and lively discussion among the experienced participants make this class informative and practical.
The purpose of this course is to teach auditors on how to utilize a risk-based approach within their engagements to enhance audit quality. Auditors continue to struggle with effective and efficient execution of the Risk Assessment Standards. Common deficiencies include an over-reliance on checklists and inadequate documentation of audit risk assessment, including linkage of audit procedures to the risks they are designed to address. The AICPA Peer Review team continues to see common audit deficiencies relating to risk assessment.
Does a single audit have you running in circles? This course provides you with the knowledge to be more efficient and effective at planning and performing audits in accordance with the requirements of the Uniform Guidance for Federal Awards and the Single Audit Act. Make sure your skills are up-to-date with the latest information in this challenging audit area.

Revenue and cash receipts are two critical areas that require strong controls to prevent intentional fraud or unintentional misstatements. While there is well-publicized fraud in these areas in larger companies, it also occurs in smaller businesses and not-for-profit entities. A sound system of internal controls is needed to help prevent fraud. All too often, a “one-sizefits-all” system is put in place without considering the uniqueness of each entity. It is crucial that an internal control system is tailored so that the areas of greatest risk receive the most attention.
Many costly fraudulent schemes have occurred repeatedly throughout the past several decades. Why do these material and frequently recurring frauds succeed? One reason is that business owners, management, auditors, and employees fail to recognize the red flags that have been associated with these financial statement and misappropriation of asset frauds. Another major reason is that the reporting and transaction processing systems do not have adequate controls to either prevent and/ or detect these schemes. This course will provide descriptions of how these major frauds are perpetrated (including real-world examples) and the types of cost-effective controls that can be implemented by both small and large businesses and nonprofit entities to identify and prevent these deceptive acts.
How are fraud schemes perpetrated? Who does it? How much is stolen? What controls can be installed to prevent and detect these schemes? Fraud red flags for non-traditional schemes are addressed. The categories of non-traditional fraud schemes include corruption, Ponzi, and Asset Flip schemes. These non-traditional fraud schemes are not usually addressed in traditional fraud courses. However, numerous entities have incurred significant financial losses as a result of these schemes and issues concerning these schemes need to be addressed to prevent financial losses. These schemes’ methodologies, related red flags and internal controls to prevent and detect these schemes are addressed in detail. Real-world cases are provided to reinforce concepts.

Purchasing and cash disbursements are common targets for fraud in any entity’s environment. While business owners and managers are aware that internal controls seem to be very important, they often don’t know whether the entity’s system is adequate. While accountants instinctively know that internal controls are important and necessary, it is sometimes difficult to effectively communicate this with business owners. It is important to focus on common frauds and internal controls over the purchasing and cash disbursement processes. This course teaches you to hone in on smaller businesses and not-for-profit entities where cost/benefit analysis is extremely important and fraud is more likely to occur. Learn how to efficiently analyze controls to ensure you’re getting the “biggest bang for your buck” when considering a control to implement and/or test.

Reviewing workpapers is a critical internal quality control safeguard that ensures issued audit reports are appropriate given the specific engagement’s circumstances. There is a presumption that more experienced engagement team members should review work performed by less experienced staff. But, even sole practitioners must be concerned about complying with quality control standards and proper ethical conduct. This course will provide tips and techniques for effective and efficient review of audit workpapers, the success of which heavily depends on an auditor’s proper application of critical financial statement audit concepts such as assessing audit risk, applying strong substantive analytical procedures, and evaluating areas of estimates and uncertainty.

This program helps you meet the “best practices” standard, other ethical standards, and regulatory requirements. This program helps you meet the “best practices” standard, other ethical standards, and regulatory requirements. For example, do you think a so-called “budgeting crisis” is normally due to the budget, or actually hidden, existing problems that were uncovered due to the budgeting process. This course demonstrates the use of practices and techniques specifically designed to assist CPAs and other financial professionals in adding value to their company through improved decision-making, cost management, understanding business cycles, managing continuous improvements, cash management, and risk management. Examples of actions by both successful and failed organizations are used throughout the session. financial subjects such as cash and debt management, planning, the latest accounting department efficiency issues, and new oversight and control concepts. This course makes a clear and important distinction between the older-style organization similar to GM, and the newer organizations like Google or Apple. As the course moves through the subjects, constant contrast is made between how things are done in the modern versus the older-style organization. The Affordable Care Act (ACA) is of immense importance to millions of individuals and millions of businesses and their owners. Both otherwise uninsured individuals and employers with 50 or more fulltime or full-time equivalent employees must be on top of the complicated ACA rules as they apply in 2016 and beyond. Many businesses not compliant with the ACA may ultimately be forced to pay very large penalties due to their noncompliance. Of equal importance is the impact of IRS Notice 201517 on employer reimbursements of employees for premiums they pay for health insurance. The Notice includes special rules for S corporation reimbursements of greater than 2% shareholders. This course will focus on the key issues and planning strategies that tax practitioners need to know in order to advise their clients regarding this far-reaching legislation. Code Sections 6694 and 7216... Treasury Circular 230... Office of Professional Responsibility... AICPA Statements on Standards for Tax Services... every tax partner and senior manager faces a daunting array of new “guidance.” Rarely have tax and financial statement issues been so intertwined – and so likely to cause problems for tax practitioners. All CPAs must become familiar with risk analysis of tax return positions. This program explains what it takes to avoid penalties and keep fees reasonable. Changes in the tax rates have made knowledge of trusts and estates all the more important. This course examines more advanced tax issues that CPAs grapple with and explores how the new tax environment impacts planning for estates, trusts, and their beneficiaries. It also presents a discussion of the generation-skipping transfer tax implications of trusts and estates.

The Office of Professional Responsibility is suspending practitioners who fail to apply “due diligence” to their preparation of tax returns. Federal estate and gift taxes currently affect few clients, but there are many other issues involved in settling an estate or administering a trust. Clients who are beneficiaries of a trust or estate often turn to their financial advisors to understand the administrative process and its effect on their interests. This course enables the accountant to cut through the jargon to understand the legal concepts, communicate a realworld explanation to clients, and serve, in some instances, as an executor or trustee or as an advisor to them. After taking this course, practitioners will feel more confident to serve in a fiduciary capacity.
Get a solid understanding of international tax terminology and regulations that apply to a U.S. entity involved in global operations, or for a foreign entity doing business in the U.S. Whether your organization is contemplating a global move or is already involved in international business, you need to know about the activities that create multi-jurisdictional tax exposure and the required tax reporting for each relevant jurisdiction.
Taxpayers are facing the tax on net investment income under IRC Section 1411 and it presents new issues and opportunities. The course considers what items of income and expenses are included in computing the amounts subject to the §1411 tax, the related add-on Medicare 0.9% withholding tax on earned income and the impact of income that is excluded from the definition of investment income on the tax. As well, the course will look at various other tax matters related to investment income.

Most individuals will accumulate a significant amount of wealth through contributions or rollovers from qualified plans into IRAs. Although the rules in this area provide tremendous planning opportunities, they are very complex. The purpose of this course is to provide insight and practical planning suggestions into this important area of practice. This course utilizes forms, worksheets, examples, exercises, and case studies as well as voluntary homework problems and mini-cases to enhance and enliven the learning experience and to hone retirement planning skills.
You can conquer the theoretical conundrums and compliance issues caused by the question of whether or not a business has nexus in a particular jurisdiction. Be the one to guide your client skillfully through the maze of multistate corporate tax codes. Rapidly develop a working knowledge of both multistate tax compliance and related planning opportunities. With the rate of change, you can’t afford to be out-of-date with your knowledge of this critical tax area.
The barriers to doing business across state lines have significantly decreased in recent years. However, this creates additional issues for taxpayers and their preparers in determining where and when they have nexus in a state which would require them to file either state income tax or sales tax returns. This class will not only help equip you in learning the various ways that states define and enforce nexus but also in how to determine when your company or client has nexus in a state, thus requiring the filing of tax returns.
Allocation of basis in debt, step up in basis upon transfer, disguised sales, abandonment of partnership interest, special allocations of income and deductions, reallocation of depreciation among partners, reporting income from forgiveness of indebtedness, determining an LLC member’s self-employment income...and more. This is the program that gets you ready to help your clients plan partnership and limited liability company transactions to minimize taxes.

Partnership taxation is arguably the most complex area of tax that most CPAs will deal with, and that complexity carries over to preparing the Form 1065. This course, designed for CPAs who are comfortable with the basics of individual and business income taxation, will look at applying the various provisions that must be considered when preparing a partnership’s Form 1065. The CPA will gain a base of knowledge to allow him/her to properly prepare those 1065s for which he/she is engaged to perform the compliance services, and enable the CPA to then be ready to add to that knowledge with more advanced training to enable him/her to assist clients in planning engagements regarding partnerships. The objective of this course is to train new staff accountants, data processing employees, paraprofessionals, and bookkeepers to prepare a complicated federal individual income tax return.
