In support of the Rotary club’s Tree of Light appeal
The Oswestry Rotary Club Tree of Light Appeal once again seeks to raise much needed funds for local groups and charities this Christmastime.
At 5pm on Friday 18 November, everyone was invited to join in the Switch On of the Christmas lights on Festival Square by Oswestry Town Mayor Cllr Jay Moore.
With the ongoing effects of the pandemic and the cost-of-living crisis, for smaller charities, a Tree of Light donation can form a significant part of their annual income.
This year’s headline group is Oswestry’s own OsNosh, supporting and growing the community through food while funds will also be raised for Severn Hospice, Lingen Davies, the Marches Riding for the Disabled and Ukrainian Refugees.
Santa and his elf helper, bearing some small gifts for the children, mingled with the crowds to have photos taken with the onlookers!
But how can you make a donation?
You can make a donation of £5 by texting TREEOFLIGHT to 70085. Each text costs £5 plus one standard rate message and donors are able to add 25% Gift Aid to their donation during the process.
Traditional giving by cheque is also possible by completing the sponsor form printed here where a dedication to remember a significant event can be made and the returning it to the address shown.
A Book of Remembrance will be kept for all dedications which will be displayed in Oswestry Library.
The appeal closes on Twelfth Night.

In support of the Rotary club’s Tree of Light Appeal Christmas is a time to celebrate with loved ones, look back fondly over happy years and remember those we have loved and lost. For many it can also be a time of sadness, when the loss of a loved one is most keenly felt, a time when we particularly remember those people whom we love but, sadly, see no longer. But the Tree of Light is not only about remembering those we have lost. It is also about celebrating, a time to be glad and grateful for all of the gifts we have received and to remember how good life has been to us. A wedding anniversary, an engagement, a special birthday, a treasured friendship, the birth of a child; all of these things we can celebrate by making a dedication on the Tree of Light.
