FROM KINDERGARTEN THROUGH GRADE 6,

the Lower School core curriculum and co-curricular classes are designed to challenge students academically while building a strong foundation for learning, confidence building, and a gradual increase in independence. Fifth and Sixth grades are departmentalized to scaffold growth in preparation for Middle School, as well as to allow for specialized instruction in each subject area. The Lower School faculty encourage and challenge students through the use of inquiry, interdisciplinary project based learning, and the reinforcement of positive character.

DISTINCTIVE PROGRAMS Chapel Services Lower School students attend daily morning prayer services four times each week and a Eucharist serviceonce a week. Students are the officiates and readers at all morning prayer services and serve as acolytes and readers at all Eucharist services. Service Learning Each grade level in Lower School participates in a specific service project during the year. In addition, students may bring items for the School-wide monthly collections for various community organizations and participate in other School-wide service initiatives. Students can “think like a Marine Biologist” through our Career Adventures initiative and explore their genius within through a Maker Skills Workshop. Investigations in coding and robotics develop critical thinking and inspire collaboration. Chess Our K-2 chess program is the best in the nation, winning 10 team trophies and 26 individual trophies in one year, tacking on to an undefeated record for 10 years running. Technology The effective and responsible integration of technology is taught in a stand-alone co-curricular class, as well as through individual classrooms. Grades 4-6 participate in a 1:1 Chromebook program. Fine Arts In addition to music and art as co-curricular classes, every grade level is involved in performances throughout the school year. Some of the favorites include the Kindergarten Cinderella Ball in which students sing and show off their ballroom dancing skills; the First Grade Nativity Play; the Fifth Grade Living History Museum; and the Lower School Musical. In preparation for the transition into Middle School, Sixth Grade students take specific Fine Arts classes - including drama, choir, and band - taught by cross-divisional faculty.
