Early Childhood at All Saints’ Episcopal School
New Dillard Center for Early Childhood Education
Building a Foundation for Learning 3-Year-Olds
• Pre-Kindergarten • Bridge Kindergarten
The All Saints’ Early Childhood Program:
A Bright Future In 1951, The Reverend Canon James P. DeWolfe Jr., and the Vestry at All Saints’ Episcopal Church voted to create All Saints’ Episcopal School to serve preschool children. Over the years, the School added elementary grades and, eventually, a Middle School and an Upper School. Our first seniors graduated in the spring of 1989. After many years of K-12 education, the Early Childhood Education program was re-established in 2010. Enrollment has since tripled, and the state-of-the-art Dillard Center for Early Childhood Education opened in Fall 2013.
Gift of the Dillard Family in honor and memory of every child that passes through the blessed doors.
It’s all about
Balance. A Well-Rounded Approach
Give your child a balanced beginning through All Saints’ Early Childhood Program. Our 3-Year-Old, Pre-Kindergarten and Bridge Kindergarten programs offer a balanced approach to intellectual, physical, emotional, social, and spiritual development. The All Saints’ educational setting promotes intellectual curiosity, creativity, independence, life skills, and encourages healthy spiritual development. Most importantly, our program fosters each individual child to develop his or her skills to become confident and to develop a love for lifelong learning. From Science Lab to Spanish Class, Music to Integrated Math and Visual Arts, Technology Lab to Daily Chapel, All Saints’ Early Childhood Program will provide a strong foundation for your child.
The Perfect Step to Kindergarten Readiness Students in the All Saints’ Early Childhood Program are at a distinct advantage when transitioning into the Kindergarten of your choice. Not only are they happy and well-rounded, but they have had an academic preparation second to none.
Distinctive Features of our Early Childhood Program Classrooms
All Early Childhood classrooms have a lead teacher and an assistant, with an 8 : 1 (average) student-toteacher ratio. All lead teachers hold degrees and are certified in Early Childhood Education.
Daily Chapel
Children attend chapel services, which include prayer, songs and a children’s lesson led by our Early Childhood and Lower School Chaplain.
Godly Play
A weekly enrichment, Godly Play is an outstanding method of Christian education and spiritual direction for children. Children listen to Bible stories and are encouraged to relate the stories to a personal experience.
Technology Lab / Library
(Pre-K and Bridge K: 1-2 times per week) Students learn basic computer skills, including control and placement of a mouse, “drag-anddrop” and introduction to the keyboard. The EC Library is filled with books to help promote the love of literacy and reading. SmartTables, with literacy, math and numbers, science, and social studies educational software, are incorporated into the technology and library enrichment.
(Pre-K and Bridge K: 1 time per week) Children experience hands-on science through lessons and experiments in earth, physical and life sciences.
Art
Creative Dance
(1 time per week) Children visit the Early Childhood Art Room for whole group art enrichment each week. Children create works of art though experimentation of different media, planned around the basic elements and principles of art: line, shape, color, value, form, texture, and shape.
Music
(1 time per week) Early Childhood students participate in a weekly Creative Dance class where they channel their imagination, creativity and self expression through dance. The children dance and dramatically act out characters to different musical pieces. This class also helps develop good listening skills, proper classroom etiquette and respect for peers.
(1-2 times per week) The MusikGarten curriculum promotes musical literacy, singing and rhythmic skills, aural perception, language development, motor coordination, ensemble skills, and social interaction while awakening the child’s imagination. Early Childhood music enrichment also incorporates instruments, songs, stories, and poems that align with classroom curricular themes.
RANGE (Research, Adventure, Nature, Geology & Ecology)
Spanish
Throughout the year, during migratory patterns and as part of their science curriculum, children enjoy on-campus outings and picnics in the Butterfly Garden.
(1-2 times per week) Students are enriched by weekly Spanish language classes. The curriculum is planned so students learn core vocabulary and basic sentence structure using verbs, colors, numbers, animals, places and food items through verbal interaction, music, hands-on activities and books.

Through this process, students discover and explore the mathematics embedded in or used by the artist in his/her works. The children also create an artifact (painting, sketch, collage, etc.) in the spirit of the week’s artist.
Science Lab
Intellectual Development

Physical, Emotional, Social & Spiritual Development Physical Development
Physical development includes dramatic play, toys and games, blocks, sensory table exploration, manipulatives, and fine and gross motor coordination and development. Daily outdoor play develops large motor skills like jumping, running and climbing. Students also explore music through movement, rhythm and beat, instruments and dance.
Emotional Development
Play and learning in our Early Childhood Program focuses on promoting self-confidence and a positive self-image that will lay the foundation for success in school and in life. Our teachers introduce skills relevant to children’s development and interests and foster independence and self-assurance.
Social Development
All Saints’ Early Childhood curriculum and activities are designed to promote skills beyond self. Children are encouraged to build on interaction with others, teachers and groups. They observe and explore, problem solve and learn social skills to create confidence. Children are also taught the important life skills of sharing, respecting others, appropriately resolving conflict, and communicating with words.
Spiritual Development
Children’s thoughts and feelings about God and other spiritual beings are a natural part of their development. We encourage children’s spiritual growth by incorporating lessons on faith, knowledge, self-control, perseverance, kindness, and love into our curriculum. We teach them how to ask “wondering questions” through storytelling and utilize prayer, music, and devotionals to connect learning about faith to living in faith.
