Additional reflections will be distracting in day to day activities such as night driving and computer use. High index lenses have a lower specific gravity than their traditional glass and plastic counterparts. Translated, these lenses are less dense. Other aspects, such as center thickness, decentration, and frame choice will also impact the finished product. The advantage of this is that a lens can be created using less material, therefore having less bulk and weight. Minus lenses are thicker at the outer edge; a high index lens decreases this, diminishing the bottle effect when seen form the side. Internal reflections will also be decreased.

It consists in a dedicated ray-tracing program which combines lens surface topography data with highly advanced mathematical algorithms. POLARIZED LENSES effectively block reflected glare, a situation which occurs primarily near water or snow or off reflective surfaces nearby, such as car windows, metallic objects, etc. Light which strikes a horizontal reflective surface is reflected back into your eyes. You then get a “double dose” of light energy, some of which falls directly on to you and some that is reflected on to you. Polarized lenses offer an interesting advantage: because they dramatically reduce or eliminate the reflected light energy which might account for the majority of the annoying glare, you can use a lighter tint to achieve the same (or better) degree of glare reduction and comfort compared to non-polarized dark lenses.

Rudy Project eyewear is custom designed to each wearer’s unique prescription. BASE 8 AND BASE 6 WRAPAROUND FRAMES Our lab will optimize the prescription using a mathematical formula designed for wrapped eyewear. Calculating light angles of the pantoscopic tilt and vertex distance provides the most precise Rx for optimal vision. Because ImpactRX™ and hi +1.6 are custom designs, a minimal amount of adjustment may be required.

DIRECT INTERCHANGEABLE CONCEPT Using the most sophisticated edging equipment available in the world, Rudy Project is now able to Rx its award winning semi-rimless sport models Rydon, Rydon II, Magster, Kylix, Swifty DIRECTLY in the frame: this gives your patients even more options than ever before. Now for patients that want to stay away from optical inserts, you can offer them the option of Rx-ing their favourite Rudy models directly in the frame. And best of all they can have two or three Rx lenses in different tints to manage field requirements ot light condition. The Rx Direct Interchangeable lenses are custom ground to your patients’ prescription and attach to the Rudy frame similar to the plano counterparts. Lenses interchange in a snap, yet stay snugly in place during sports.

For our more technical sunglasses (MAGSTER™, GENETYK ™, KARBONEYE™, EXOWIND™, NOYZ™, ZYON™, GUARDYAN, KETYUM™, RYDON™, RYDON II™, EKYNOX SX™ ) that cannot support a direct in frame RX, Rudy Project has created CLIP-ON RX optical inserts that can be snapped in behind the polycarbonate Rudy Project lenses. Thanks to our patented ‘easy-in easy-out’ system; our Clip-ons can be inserted or removed with ease. This is particularly useful when you want to wear your contact lenses or when cleaning.

Thanks to our patented ‘easy-in easy-out’ system, our Clip-ons can be inserted or removed with ease. This is particularly useful when you want to wear your contact lenses or when cleaning.

If you do not have access to the reference template supplied in the package with the clip-on, use the false lens. The distance between pupil and clip-on lens is never the same as between the pupil and the lens of the prescription glasses. For the inter-pupil distance measure the optical axes with the clip-on fitted on the glasses. Always ask your customers for valid prescription from the eye doctor within the last two years. The prescription must contain a valid reading for sphere and pupil distance (PD). We recommend polycarbonate aspherical prescription lenses, because they are particularily lightweight and resistant and therefore highly suitable for sports use.

An anti-reflection treatment applied to the Rx lenses may optimize vision. Some manufacturers offer nowadays advanced prescription lens materials with extremely low thickness. These allow high prescription index settings and higher optical comfort. Ask your lens provider for more informations. Warning: Perception‘s clip-on is made out of Grilamid TR90 and should not be overheated! (or very slightly - low melting point!) to fit the prescriptions. Lenses should be inserted playing with the elasticity of the material. Same technique applied with Direct Rx on plastic frames.

ImpactRX is definitely the strongest material for prescription lenses. It is guaranteed against break or crack for life. Therefore, even if the wearer falls or is hit, his eyes are safe.

INCREASED COMFORT AND SAFETY COMPARED TO CONTACT LENSES Contact lenses can be used with no problems in everyday life, but they are definitely not appropriate for use when playing sports. Wind, dust, pollution and sweat can result in intolerable situations: burns, infections, conjunctivitis, hypoxia and real damage to the cornea. Moreover, contact lenses with UV protection are no substitute for sunglasses.

TAILORED TO YOU EYES ImpactRX lens is a custom made, personalized lens surfaced to the highest level of optical accuracy (up to 1/100 diopters) designed exclusively for Rudy Project frames. Thanks to a sophisticated program of calculation, the customization is not “just” limited to considering the wearer’s parameters (RX, PD, FH), but goes on to directly combine them with the shape of the lenses of the glasses. This process provides 20 percent wider fields of vision in all zones by bringing the design closer to the eye. This particular working process is an absolute novelty in the sector of ophthalmic optics applied to sports, and is seen as a reference point in the customization of eyeglass lenses. The aim of the process is to boost the individual’s performance to the maximum, limiting the disturbing influence of any prismatic effects and containing the effect of 1st degree aberrations (spherical and chromatic). ImpactRX lenses are also available in single vision and progressive version, offering the same level of precision optics to all prescription wearers.

Traditional prescription lenses are cast in molds and then shaped. This process does not make it possible to take special characteristics of the individual wearer into account. Vision also deteriorates as you move away from the optic center. This effect is particularly intolerable for those who wear sports glasses.

You then get a “double dose” of light energy, some of which falls directly on to you and some that is reflected on to you. Polarized lenses with photochromatic technology offer an interesting advantage: because they dramatically reduce or eliminate the reflected light energy which might account for the majority of the annoying glare, you can use a lighter tint to achieve the same (or better) degree of glare reduction and comfort compared to non-polarized dark lenses. SUPERIOR PHOTOCHROMATIC TECHNOLOGY Photochromatic pigments of ImpactRX lenses are enclosed in the mass of the row lens and are confined to the top 0.8 mm of the lenses. This provides a better homogeneity of color (even with lenses of different thicknesses) in all lighting conditions and provides a color that lasts longer. Moreover, scratches on the outside will be practically invisible.

Photochromic pigments of traditional lenses are obtained by means of a surface treatment. The photochromic effect is more limited over time and surface scratches are more visible.

How to promote ImpactRX

What does “Tailored to Your Eyes” mean? Impactrx and hi+ 1.6 lenses make use of the most innovative technologies available for the ophthalmic lenses; thanks to the Freeform Technology, lenses are digitally surfaced on the back surface for the most exact, customized vision and are designed exclusively for Rudy Project frames. The Virtual Sight Technology simulates the human eye in every angle and re-calculates the prescription in thousands of points in order to provide the most wide field of vision. These features combined with the innovative frames make Rudy Project leader in Rx sport optics.

What is the importance of the anti-reflective coating? Anti-reflective coating benefits virtually everyone who wears eyeglasses. With an anti-reflective coating, reflections are eliminated and eyeglass lenses look thinner or non-existent. Anti-reflective coating is beneficial when applied to the back surface of lenses in sunglasses, because it eliminates reflections of sunlight into your eyes from the lenses when the sun is behind you. Recently Rudy Project developed the diamond coat, a new multilayer AR coating: each layer is scientifically calculated to block reflected light. The result is that you’ll see a reduction in glare, annoying reflections and halos around lights.

How to check the prescription of an Impactrx or hi+1.6 lens? Every Rudy Project ophthalmic lens has two semi-visible laser markings: first of all you have to detect and mark them; then you have to place the lens on the proper lens markings schedule you can find at page 61-62 on the Rx catalogue and mark: a) The Fitting Point, b) the Prism Reference Point, c) the Distance Reference Point (only for progressive lenses), d) the Near Reference Point (only for progressive lenses). Once you defined these “points”, you can put the lens on your focimeter and check the revised prescription Rudy Project sent to you with the sunglasses. Please remember that Rudy Project ophthalmic lenses comply with the requirement of International Standard ISO tolerance.

Do the progressive ImpactRX lenses have a fixed or variable inset? The inset is fixed. This is because the algorithm that determines the nasal decentralization of the proximal vision area is linked to that used by the TAILORED TO YOUR EYES technology in order to achieve the maximum range of the field of vision sharp for distance.

How much time does it take to receive the ImpactRX sunglasses from the time of the order? Delivery will be carried out within 21 days. Do I have to have a special license to sell prescription lenses? Rx lenses are considered medical aids so sale to the consumer must always be carried out by a qualified optician who certifies that the glasses themselves are in compliance. So it is important to check your country’s legislation. What happens if a customer has difficulty adapting to ImpactRx lenses? The optician must re-check the proper power of the lenses and the accuracy of the balancing. Then check with the user to find out whether the difficulty is continuous and constant or if it is determined by use in precise environments. Remember that Rudy Project ImpactRX lenses are wrap-around lenses. To reach maximum comfort, it could be necessary to adapt the wearer’s postural references since, despite the sophisticated compensation calculation, the ophthalmic lens with curved base has a peripheral vision rendering that is different than normal, noncurved lenses. It is essential that the optician completely understand the wearer’s needs in order to carry out a sort of visual rehabilitation. Are the colors of the ImpactRx lenses the same as the ImpactX colors? Yes, nominally they are, and the pigments are the same. But you have to consider that the Rx Semi-finished gets different coatings which can bring about a change on the base tint. The thickness of the lens could affect the color too. For further information, please refer to the specific section of the site www.rudyproject.com Are the ImpactRx lenses semi-soft like those of ImpactX? No. The ImpactRx lenses are rigid in order to avoid any change to the prescription of the lenses.

Why are there different lens shapes for some models? Rydon, Magster, Swifty and Kylix have different lens shapes and calibers in order to extend the prescription limits and to provide the best cosmetic result. In fact, especially when we have positive prescription, the smaller is the caliber the thinner is the lens. In case of high prescription, Rudy Project Rx Department will provide to you the thickness calculation, if you need it to choose the best lens shape. Do prescriptions for normal eyeglasses work for ImpactRx or HI+ 1.6 lenses? Yes. The optician must send the patient’s prescription for normal eyeglasses. Rudy Project will perform the compensation calculations based on the chosen model and the patient’s parameters. Please consider that your patient will use its Rudy Project during sport activities, hence some particular evaluations may be required (i.e.: the ADD value has to be connected with the real needs for sport activities and not with the eye’s near point).

What advantages do I have with a direct RX lens compared to contact lenses or clip-ons? Contact lenses can cause visual instability (dryness, shock, sweat, etc.). There are numerous advantages over clip-ons: greater field of vision, less weight, ease of use and maintenance, fewer tendencies to blur. Why is photochromic activation not always the same? The activation of every photochromic lens is strictly related to temperature. In hotter temperatures there’s not a complete activation of the photochromic effect. We reccomend photochromic lenses for every day use such as driving and photochromic polarized lenses for activities on water or snow. May I order only rx lenses without the frame? We don’t accept orders for only lenses. In case of a previous order, we’ll accept orders for only the pair of lenses within a period of 1 year.

May I order only one Rx lens? Rudy Project suggests to order the pair of lenses, in order to avoid different photochromic effects between the two lenses. How to manage a customer’s claim? Anti-reflective and hard coating are warranted for a period of two years. This warranty is limited to a one time replacement of the same Rx and material in the original frame. Damage due to improper care and handling is not covered. The Rudy Project Quality Dept is in charge of the defective rating (defective material or improper care).

Photochromic Warranty

The ranges for the photochromic pigments activation are indicated in the Rx catalogue (in order to avoid misunderstandings as they don’t match the ones of the plano lenses). Pigments are warranted for a period of two years.

Our Lab Errors

Rudy Project will remake any lenses made incorrectly. Credit will be issued upon receipt of old lenses. Please be specific about the reason for requesting a remake. The invoice number, date and reason for the redo must be included in order for credit to be issued.

Scratched Lenses

All ImpactRX™ and H.I+ 1.6 lenses include hard coatings. However, all lenses will scratch with improper care. Scratched lenses are not covered under Rudy Project’s warranty policy.

Rudy Project in order to provide the highest level of customer satisfaction, offers a Non Adaptation Policy. Please consider that every patient needs his own adaptation period because of the new technology he’s wearing. (at least 20 days) Rudy Project accepts Rx sunglasses back only within 60 days since the shipment document date. In case of not adapted patient, we would provide a new couple of Single Vision spectacles (we’ll credit the Progressive ones and debit the Single Vision); if the optician wants to try once again the progressive lenses (because there is a fail with the prescription, PD, etc…), we’ll put in production another progressive job (we’ll credit the first and debit the second)
