GREEN ALLEY This street design for the only pedestrian streets between the row houses with coach houses at the back. The vision was to incentivise coach houses and let these become places for small private businesses to increase the economic status of the neighborhood.

Site -

The Bridgeport Master Plan - Seeds and Roots created a peculiar condition on the site for the Neighborhood Market with a Bioswale running through the center of the site which made the space distribution for the market very complex and difficult and resulted in three different spaces around the bioswale for the market design and four open plazas for public activities.

Concept -

THROOP

Inspired from the bioswale and its tendencies to erode throught the earth where it flows, erosion became the starting point of design. GROUNG LEVEL PLAN

The first diagram shows the erosion pattern on the site and the second diagram shows the reversal of the concept to generate a roof pattern to over the three blocks to unify the whole structure. The market id planned in the three larger spaces and the plazas mainly act as entrances from the streets and outdoor activities like flea markets, space for food trucks, performances etc.

THRESHOLDS

STRUCTURAL CONCEPT

The project is about thresholds created by six walls almost like chapters in a book, unravelling little but significant details; being crossed to experience consequential change in spaces while exploring the building, through sequential openings in these walls. The thresholds are entrances or more like subtle reminders of entering and reaching deeper into more compact and private spaces becoming the destination in the journey of the space like reading through minute details on each page of the chapter building-up to the smaller climax respective to each chapter but contributing to the whole reading experience.

THE URBAN ROOM

The urban room is like the a major character in the whole journey acting like an oasis in the mundane desert like setting of the street it is located on, opening into a literature haven, filled with a story full of lush greenery and knowledge in the middle of the sameness of a busy city street.

The structure consists of 6 structural concrete walls spaced unequally to accomodate the program and spaces

WEEKEND HOME An opportunity to be a part of designing and creating the construction documnts as an assistant to the senior architect for a project that would be home for someone for the rest of their life, this helped me realise the amount of involvement needed by an architect to get someone else’s dreams right. Creating construction documents, checking drawings from consultants and visiting the site, assisting the senior architect were the very main aspects of the profession that were experienced. Detail drawings of the staircase, toilets and kitchen were drafted and passed on for correction to the senior architect. 2D drawings produced in Autocad and 3D in Google Sketchup.
