The Elaine Sterling Institute was founded by Elaine Sterling in 2008 and is located in the heart of the City of Sandy Springs. Elaine saw the need for quality education that would match the fast-paced and growing field of beauty. She has created a school that is renowned and internationally recognized for high educational standards. Elaine’s vision for a spa-like environment for her students to learn the very best of European techniques with the latest equipment was of paramount importance from inception. Multi-faceted Learning Environment The Elaine Sterling Institute, located at 4840 Roswell Rd NE Building E Suites 201 and 100 and Building D Suite 300 Sandy Springs, GA is a modern, state-of-the art facility that mimics the spa environment and is conducive to learning. ESI contains over 11,479 square feet that include 8 clinic floors/clinic treatment areas, 4 classrooms, 1 nail floor, retail area, administrative office and conference rooms. The Institute layout reflects the dynamic skincare and spa industry with the latest equipment and treatment rooms that are beautifully decorated and clean. Licensing The Elaine Sterling Institute is licensed by the Georgia State Board of Cosmetology and is in compliance with the Nonpublic Post Secondary Commission (NPEC). ESI is Accredited by COE (Council on Occupational Education). We believe that the beauty industry requires lifelong learning therefore we offer many post graduate classes to assist you in upgrading your current skills to meet the ever changing industry needs. 8
Prestigious Education The Elaine Sterling Institute offers a 1000 hour esthetician program, 600 hour nail care program and 750 Whour massage therapy program. All undergraduate programs are taught to the highest industry standards. We provide education that assists students prepare for the Georgia State Board of Cosmetology exams. Many aspects of our program set us apart from standard beauty schools. We hold our students to high expectations and challenge them by way of our rigorous curriculum. We strive to connect our classroom studies with real world experience to provide a seamless transition from the school to the workplace. Our students gain a competitive advantage through various networking opportunities and events, giving them access to industry leaders. Our Mission The mission statement is the foundation on which the Elaine Sterling Institute is built. All instructors and staff understand the importance of the Institute’s mission. The mission statement is clearly written and available to students in the school catalog, school website and is displayed on the wall in the reception area and visible to all who enter the school. The mission of The Elaine Sterling Institute is to provide programs of educational excellence that combine the classical European traditions of skincare with modern American scientific technologies. We instruct our students in the competencies set by the state board of cosmetology to equip them with the required skills to pass the state board examination and prepare students to excel in their professional careers. Originally from South Africa, our founder, Elaine Sterling, holds both the prestigious CIDESCO (Switzerland) Diplomat and ITEC(London) certifications. A licensed Esthetician and Licensed Esthetician Instructor, Elaine has a passion for skin health. While speaking and writing about the “Theater of the spa experience” she is passionate about the power of the well trained spa professional and how their healing touch can affect peoples lives. Elaine’s professional positions have included Director of Education of a large skincare school in Atlanta and Esthetic and Training Director at Spa Sydell, a highly successful and innovative Day Spa group, also based in Atlanta.

In my vast experience as an Esthetician and Educator I have seen first hand my clients’ frustration with their skin issues. My belief is that men and women should look and feel beautiful at any age. After years of research and testing on what I like to call the “living laboratory” (students, clients, patients), I have worked to improve the aesthetic world by developing products, tools, and education programs focusing on the art and science of beauty enhancement. I love the skin and work every moment of the day to find solutions to problematic skin conditions. I am relentless in the pursuit of more beautiful skin. This is my mission, my passion, and my vision. Knowledge, science, and art is in everything I do … from education to product development. The connection of skin to health and wellbeing is paramount to me and is reflected and energized in all my professional endeavors from writing to keynote speaking and spa business coaching.

While speaking, presenting, writing, and training on the subject of “The Theater of the Spa Experience”, Elaine is motivated and encouraged when she sees evidence of the positive effects on and changes brought to people’s lives. The power of a professionally-trained Spa touch is invaluable in the stress-filled world in which we live. Her desire for health and beauty enhancement to be promoted at every available opportunity drives her forward in pursuit of excellence in her field of expertise. Elaine passionately believes in giving back to the community, and does so in a number of ways. To expand the educational experience for students in Georgia, Elaine served on the curriculum advisory board for the Georgia Department of Education. She shares her time and her expertise to ensure that students receive a more sophisticated and well rounded esthetics education. Her volunteer work also extends to webinars, field trips, and
school visits for students in under privileged communities to provide information about career opportunities. In her experience dealing with clients, patients, and frustrated skincare product consumers, she has found that feeding the skin vital antioxidants and anti-inflammatory botanicals will help the skin to repair itself. She does not believe you have to traumatize the skin to see results. While using the progressive rather than aggressive attitude she can take the skin to a new level, bringing about change to problematic skin conditions through daily care. She believes in results without trauma to the skin. “First Do No Harm” Is my mantra.

De Curtis-Glakas ITEC LE, LEI, LNTI, LNT, First Aid/CPR, AED Instructor Ms. De’s strongest attribute is her passion to see her students succeed as individuals and impart a spirit of knowledge and professionalism. De is a wealth of knowledge in both the theoretical and clinical sciences and brings an element of excitement and fun to every class. Giving back to the community and working with students one on one to partner in their success beyond graduation is of the utmost importance to Ms De. “It’s not the load that carries you down, it’s the way you carry it.”
Ko Tan Holistic Science Expert, Author, NCBTMB LMT, ARC Certified Reflexologist Instructor Ko Tan brings a wealth of holistic scientific knowledge and expertise to The Elaine Sterling Institute. Ko Tan’s books “Traditional Chinese Medicine Simplified” and “About Face” is an accumulation of over 20 years of research both in the United States and Asia. Ko Tan’s passion for touch therapy integrated with Chinese medicine is introduced into every lecture. Kotan teaches many of the practical aspects of the ESI curriculum including reflexology, Asian Foot Massage, Indian Head Massage, Ayurvedic Treatments, Introduction to Chinese Medicine, Lymphatic Drainage, Meridian Body Therapy and many more holistic approaches to skincare.
Sonia Barrow-Connerly LE, LEI Instructor Sonia was raised in Vancouver Canada where she was fortunate enough to be exposed to the cosmetology world through a family business from an early age. Sonia knew that a career in beauty was the right one for her from the get go. “I wanted women to put their red lipstick on and let their hair down” Sonia is passionate about all things esthetics including makeup, eyelash extensions, waxing and chemical peels. “I knew from the beginning of my esthetic career that I wanted to teach, mentor and empower students”
Cheryl Wynn LE, LEI Instructor Cheryl Wynn has been in the beauty industry for over 12 years with a dual license in esthetics and nails. Her unquenchable thirst for knowledge provides her with a readiness to face new challenges. She has worked in spas as a therapist for many years where she has received hands-on experience that has evolved into practical application in the classroom. Cheryl has a passion for students and their development and is committed to her craft. “I am very thankful to be working a field that I love and admire.”

Anthony Robinson LE, LEI, LMT Instructor Anthony Robinson has been in the beauty/spa industry for over 23 years. He possess licenses in Cosmetology, Massage Therapy and Esthetics. During his time as a student he became passionate about giving back and becoming an educator. He owns a full service salon/ spa in lower Buckhead named Kevant Salon & Spa. He feels very strong about higher education which caused him to create a non profit foundation the SFC Kevin A Williams Scholarship Foundation which is awarded annually to undergraduates pursuing a Bachelor’s in Psychology. He is also an author of his first fiction novel “He Was My Husband Too”. “Aim High, Focus Forward and to Follow their dreams...”

Gina Morgan LN, LNT, LE Instructor In 1989 Gina received her Nailcare license and later her Instructor’s and Esthetician License. Among some of her successes she was a nail technician and Trainer for Spa Sydell, which is one of the pioneers of the spa industries in Georgia. She also held a position as an esthetician and nail technician at Spa Intercontinental. In 2003 she became an educator advancing to Nail Program Director and started working as an educator at ESI in 2014. “Always do your best. What you plant now, you will harvest later.”

ESI Job Fairs In addition to educating our students with professional skills, we also provide ample opportunities for networking within the esthetic community. We host several job fairs per year to introduce students to potential employers, and to expose students to potential career outlets they may not have previously considered. Lisa Graduated 2009 Lisa opened Practically Perfect Day Spa in September of 2010, shortly after graduating from Aesthetics school. While in school she quickly realized she had a passion for business as well as making people feel good. Happy Feet & Pedicure Room While the rest of our spa rooms provide comfort while you treat your face and body, we set up our Fishbowl room to provide relaxation for your feet. Our luxurious pedicure chairs allow you to recline in serenity. We have insulated this room against noise and harsh light. Upon entrance, clients will be soothed with water flowing from our Buddha fountain and peaceful music. For a bit of creative fun, we have also installed colored lighting to subtly engage clients with their surroundings.

Pro Artist Room ESI is dedicated to a higher learning environment. This section is dedicated to the skill and art of makeup and waxing. Makeup artistry is a growing industry with connections to the theatre, music, and film industry. Our Pro Artist courses will provide students with exposure to professional makeup application and the tools they need to showcase their work. Highly skilled makeup artists and waxing specialist are in high demand this fast past section of the curriculum allows you to learn at the Pro level we have incorporated airbrush makeup, advanced makeup applications, full body waxing, laser theory and advanced hair removal techniques including threading,sugaring, hard and soft wax techniques. 62

Escape Room Our escape room is one of our many spa rooms designed to give clients the ultimate relaxation. Machines The skincare industry is rapidly changing with the development of new technologies. In order to enter the field as an employable esthetician, students must posses extensive knowledge of new skincare machines. During their education, our students learn to use a variety of cutting edge skincare machines. Uses for these machines range from slimming and trimming, skin smoothing, cellulite reduction, exfoliation, and so much more. The ability to use esthetic machinery opens many career possibilities and makes our students highly desirable in this competitive industry.

Machines Our machines curriculum includes the latest in-demand technologies that perform a variety of functions. Students will perform mechanical exfoliations with our crystal, diamond-tip, and hydro microdermabrasion machines. Our Ultrasonic skin scrubber digs deeper and not only removes the outer layer of skin, but extracts pores. Microcurrent and high frequency machines deliver electrical current to retrain facial muscles and kill subcutaneous bacteria, respectively.
As a student at ESI, estheticians will leave with an exhaustive repertoire of in-depth treatments that have the potential to generate a substantial portion of income and a loyal clientele.
A simple treatment to add to any esthetician’s skill-set is the LED light panel that delivers various frequencies to treat specific conditions. The most rapidly expanding field of paramedical esthetics are body contouring machines that treat stubborn areas on the body.

Gel Manicure Gel manicures and pedicures are becoming increasingly popular alternatives to acrylic nails. Their curing time under LED lighting can be shorter, and produces no odor. Student kits include a hard gel manicure set, which can only be removed by filing, as well as a soft gel kit, that be soaked off of the nails.

All the essential tools for manicures and pedicures are included in your kit. Included with this set is a training dvd to supplement classroom learning. Nail files and buffer allow you to shape the client’s nails, and the manikin give you plenty of training before working on clients.

Nail polish application and removal are not the only parts of a manicure or pedicure. Included in most nails service are a massage and skin exfoliation. General Sciences LVL1 The students are about to embark on a journey into a career ripe with opportunity for success and personal satisfaction. The need for professional estheticians continues to grow in new and exciting ways. As a therapist you represent both your profession and your employer and, when you consult with clients they are placing their confidence in you as a professional. Being a professional in the skincare business sta足rts on day one of class at The Elaine Sterling Institute Anatomy and physiology of the human body from cells to body systems. Eleven body systems will be studied to gain knowledge of how the human body functions. Microbiology will be covered to include three classifications of bacteria, how they grow and reproduce, modes of transmission and the diseases they cause. Additionally students will discover the difference between bacterial and viral infections. How to employ safe, sanitary work practices through three levels of decontamination will be taught. OSHA and MSDS will be discussed along with proper handling of hazardous materials and disposal of sharp instruments. This course 94
covers standard precautions and introduction to HIV/AIDS and hepatitis. CPR\FIRST AID certification class will be provided. Cytology and the integumentary system will be studied thoroughly to assure detailed and vast knowledge of the core component and basis of the skincare profession. Preparation & setup will be practiced in the clinic. Students will learn how to great clients and practice proper consultation dialogue. Additionally students will earn how to record, read and assess all related patient\client forms. Treatment indications and contraindications will also be discussed as well as ethical and professional methods of draping the clients. The clinic portion of this section focuses on European style facial techniques, training the students the correct cleansing, exfoliation methods. The students will learn how to complete both the basic facial and the European facial. Knowledge of products needed for the treatments, correct towels steam methods and proper methods of disinfection will be discussed and demonstrated.
Balance and digestion of nutrients can result in good health and while imbalances, deficiencies, or the body’s inability to process nutrients can stress the body and lead to disease. The student will gain knowledge and a practical understanding of how food affects the body. Pro Artist Students will engage in learning the art of makeup to include color theory, set-up procedure and client consultation. The application of makeup will be studied and practiced. Basic makeup, evening, special occasion and bridal applications will be explored. Corrective makeup is taught for the purpose of camouflaging postoperative bruising, scars and pigmentation disorders. Temporary and semi -permanent eyelashes, lash and brow tinting will be demonstrated. Students will learn the structure and function of the pilosebaceous unit and its substructures. Morphology and types of hair will be covered in this course. Related diseases and disorders that affect hair growth will be discussed. Students will earn the contraindications to waxing services. Universal precautions will be discussed and practiced as well as correct
sanitation and disinfection methods. Students will learn the protocol of hair removal through tweezing or waxing with the use of hard and soft wax on numerous faces and body parts. Brow shaping, Brow design, Lash and Brow tinting will be demonstrated and taught. Additionally, the theory of other methods of hair removal such sugaring and threading will be explained. Laser physics and safety will be discussed. Paramedical Aesthetics & Pharmacology LVL-2 A complete and thorough skin analysis is the backbone to a successful skincare treatment. The students will learn to conduct a comprehensive skin analysis whereby they should be able to recognize skin types, skin conditions, Fitzpatrick, the Glogau and Gubin classifications and when to suggest further investigation by physicians. The students will understand the importance of not diagnosing disease but be able to recognize diseases and disorders and know when they are contraindicated to the facial service. Skin analysis will be demonstrated and mastered using both a magnifying lamp and the skin scanner\wood lamp. 95
All aspects of clinical and paramedical esthetics are discussed in this level. The students will learn more sophisticated devices and electrical safety will be taught. The students will learn how these advanced electrical devices affect the skin. Chemical peels will be discussed and demonstrated. The history and science of chemical peels will be explained and how percentage and pH plays a role in selecting the correct peel for the client’s particular skin condition. The lectures will include both theoretical aspects as well as demonstrations on all electrical apparatus. All aspects of equipment safety and laws will be taught.

Holistic Sciences\Business Dynamics LVL-3 The products estheticians use are the lifeblood of the facial treatment. Estheticians need to know about advanced ingredients and treatments. The skincare industry is a multi-billion dollar industry of which we are a part of. As an esthetician you will need to know a wide spectrum of skincare products, how they work and how they are used. You will need to make decisions about products and how they best suit your client’s skin type and skin condition. Knowing product ingredients and the sources they are derived from is important to your success as an educator and a resource to your clients. Emphasis is on professionalism during this course while students engage in the learning of the business side of the service-orientated spa industry. Career opportunities will be covered and students will explore all the opportunities available to them as a licensed esthetician. Students will have an opportunity to develop a business plan, draw blue prints, and design an entrepreneurship, retailing, sales techniques, and how to build a spa business. Nail Care Curriculum
Level 1 During this level, students will learn about basic hygiene, ethics, and customer care. Students must acquire basic hygiene practices for personal and professional cleanliness. Industry wide precautions and contamination prevention are discussed. Students will also be instructed on proper attire for the workplace and for the clinic. Effective communication forms the backbone of a successful student and throughout his or her time at EIaine Sterling Institute, communication skills for use with clients and professionals will be refined. Sanitation and Sterilization must be practiced in all clinic and spa environments. This aspect of the curriculum discusses nail specific and general spa sanitation practices. The student must gain a thorough understanding 102
of bacteria and other pathogens. Various types of disinfectants and their uses will be discussed. As part of the state board certification, the student must learn proper OSHA standards and other government procedures. We also offer First Aid, CPR, and AED certification. As nail care technicians, students must respond to the physical and biological needs of their clients. To do so effectively requires specific knowledge of the anatomy and physiology of the hands, arms, and legs. Students examine the workings of the bodies from the cellular level to large bodily systems. Caring for the skin is as important as caring for a client’s nails. Students will learn the function of the skin as it relates to the hands and nails. A nil technician must be able to
recognize skin disorders and irregularities of the nails to assist clients with nail or skin problems or recommend a visit to a doctor when the problem goes beyond the reach of the nail tech. Skincare products and nail polishes contain specific chemicals that enable them to perform their specific functions. In order to use products correctly and understand how they work, students must learn the basic chemistry. In addition to products, students must understand how to use nail tools and equipment. They will learn about the different nail implements and tools and how to properly care for these instruments by means of sanitation and storage. During level 1, students must also grasp fundamental business techniques. Building a nail business and career does not happen by nail skill alone. Students must build a good rapport with their clients, learn to recommend specific treatments, and keep organized files. Students must also use the knowledge gained regarding the nail care business to formulate a plan for their prospective career. Once a business is up and running, it takes additional skills to ensure that your business grows to suit your needs. Students will learn about the varying types of salons, and learns effective means of navigating the job market. Through your time at ESI, you will have many networking opportunities to cultivate a network upon entering the job market. Students will write their own resume and develop marketing practices for their own businesses. When student has completed Level 1 requirements, they must pass an evaluation with a score of 75% or higher to proceed to Level 2 Level 2 Level delves deeper into the specific knowledge relating to the practice of nail care including advanced techniques and spa procedures.
Both hands and feet must be mastered by the nail care technician. The basic pedicure lesson includes knowledge of the implements, treatment of calluses, massage movements, and reflexology. For spa pedicure and deluxe pedicures, students will practice more in depth treatments including masks and exfoliations. More advanced nail techniques are practiced in the clinic and in the classroom. Nail sculpting lessons include a display of nail tools, and different aspects of nail enhancement, and application of sculpted nails. Nail wraps and tips make up another portion of this advanced techniques segment and these lesson include application and filing of tips, removing tips, nail wraps, and maintenance of tips. Nail services allow technicians a sense of creative and can express themselves, based on their client’s wishes, via their nail art. Students will learn how to airbrush nails and experiment with 3-d nail art and liquid polymer. Proper application and removal of different gel manicures and their application completes the students nail education.
Students will firs learn the basic manicure and the spa manicure. In level 2, students truly begin their handson training as they learn fundamental nail procedures and how to expand upon them. Basic nail shapes, aromatherapy, polish application, and massage movements are all practiced on the students and on clients.

Admissions Entrance Requirements The Elaine Sterling Institute admits as students only persons having one of the following: • A high school diploma accredited by an agency authorized by the US Department of Education • Through investigation into the validity and accuracy of the diploma will be executed • If the diploma is proven to be invalid documentation, the student will be dismissed from school and appropriate charges or refunds of tuition payments and/or Title IV funding resulting in overpayments will be initiated. • A GED (General Equivalency Diploma) accredited by an agency authorized by the US Department of Education • Applicants seeking admission into an instructor-training program must possess one of the previous certifications and have held a current Esthetician license in the state of Georgia for at least one year. • CONDITIONAL ENROLLMENT: if appropriate documentation cannot be gathered prior to enrollment, conditional enrollment may be granted by the School Administrator. If the student enters enrollment under this condition, Title IV funding will be disallowed until appropriate documentation can be obtained.
Former Students Reentering students will be charged at the current tuition rates for newly entering students. Amounts paid during their first period of enrollment will be credited to this account. If the student reenters within twelve months of the withdrawal, the registration fee will be waived; however, a reentry fee of $100.00 is charged.
New Students After an interview with an admissions representative, the prospective student will tour the facility and complete a pre-enrollment checklist. The admissions process proceeds with the completion of pre-entrance forms including an enrollment agreement and interview (in person or on the phone by the school director). Accepted students will be notified of orientation for new students (attendance at which is required for all students) held on or before the start of classes to introduce the student with the opportunities and policies of the Institute. Students are required to write a 250 word essay on why ESI is the right school for their esthetic education.
VA Benefits Any students that are approved for VA benefits may apply at our school as full-time or part-time day or evening. Please apply at least 30-60 days prior to enrollment date of your choice for the school to process student’s benefit with the Department of Veteran Affairs. Once processing is complete the Department of Veteran Affairs will send the student an award letter. Every VA student has a different case and the process will be different for every student. Please contact the VA at their toll-free number 1-888-4424551 to discuss your individual financial case. Upon enrolling in our school please fill out our registration form, tuition agreement, and pay our registration fee and preenrollment fee. 1-20 Foreign Student Visa and VA Benefits Programs M-1 Visa Foreign students must first apply to study at a approved school in the United States. The Elaine Sterling Institute is an approved school in the State of Georgia. Once accepted to our school, students must fill out our enrollment form and send it back to us. Our school will fill out an I-20 M-N/ID form (Certificate of Eligibility for Non-immigrant (M-1) Student Status - For Vocational Students) and send it to the student. If a student should require a visa, take the form I-20 to the nearest U.S. consulate and obtain a student visa. Once you receive your I-20 form from the school you plan on attending, take your form to your nearest U.S. consulate for visa processing. *You must also be able to prove to the consulate that you have the financial resources required for your education and stay in the United States.

Financial Aid School Federal Title IV Eligibility The Elaine Sterling Institute is eligible for, and may participate in, certain Federal Title IV programs of aid for education, including the Pell Grant and the Direct Loan Program, which includes student and parent loans. ESI is authorized under Federal law to enroll eligible nonimmigrant alien students; social security beneficiaries and students as vocational rehabilitation participants. School FAFSA Code 042045 Federal Financial Aid Programs – General Information Federal financial aid is available to those who qualify under the guidelines of the U.S. Department of Education. Student aid is awarded on the basis of the applicant’s need. Factors such as income, assets and family size are all considered in determining the applicant’s need. Refund Policy Policy And Procedure Cancellations, Withdrawals and Refunds Student may be entitled to a refund of certain payments to ESI if Student cancels Student’s planned participation in the Program or withdraws from the Program prior to its completion. Other than amounts that are refunded pursuant to the following policies, payments required under this Agreement (including, if applicable, the Tuition Installment Agreement) shall continue to be payable to ESI. It is ESI’s intention that the following guidelines adhere to guidelines issued by the State of Georgia will be followed for a refund or a cancellation/withdrawal: Cancellation Prior To the Beginning of Classes 1. All monies paid by Student (other than the registration fee) are refundable if Student requests a refund within three (3) business days after signing this Agreement. 2. If Student has not yet signed a contract with ESI, Student is entitled to receive a full refund of all monies paid if Student requests a refund within three (3) business days after first making a payment to ESI. 3. If an applicant is accepted, but fails to register, any tuition payments are fully refundable. The application fee is retained by ESI. 4. If an applicant is not accepted, the application fee is retained, and any tuition payments are fully refundable. 5. If an applicant requests cancellation beyond the three (3) business days from the actual signing of the enrollment contract, they are entitled to a refund of all monies paid minus the application fee.
4. Attending any part of a class will result in charge for a full day of attendance. Method of Refund Calculation – meaning if you withdraw, how much your tuition balance to be paid will be: 1. Refunds are calculated from the last date of actual attendance. ESI will issue the appropriate refund, if any, to Student within thirty (30) days of the last day of attendance. 2. If Student completes no more than five (5) percent of instructional time, no less than ninety-five (95) percent of tuition is refunded. 3. If Student completes more than five (5) percent, but no more than ten (l0) percent of instructional time, no less than ninety (90) percent of tuition is refunded. 4. If Student completes more than ten (10) percent, but no more than twenty-five (25) percent of instructional time, no less than seventy-five (75) percent of tuition is refunded. 5. If Student completes more than twenty-five (25) percent but no more than fifty (50) percent of instructional time, no less than fifty (50) percent of tuition is refunded. 6. If Student completes more than fifty (50) percent of instructional time, ESI is not required to issue a refund and all tuition is due by the student. 7. If ESI fails to fulfill its obligation to complete any program of instruction after training of Student has begun, Student is entitled to a refund of all tuition and fees paid.
Withdrawal after Classes Begin 1. Student’s program of study is considered terminated if more than fourteen (14) days of scheduled classes have passed since the last date of Student’s actual attendance at the school. This will be considered an administrative withdrawal. 2. If written notice of withdrawal is provided by Student and received by ESI, termination is effective as of the last date of attendance. 3. If written notice is not provided, the refund is determined by the last date of actual attendance of school. 121 121
