HAND MODELING This section is a representation of modeling and hand crafting skills that I have. The model above was created to fit within a larger site model and was made entirely out of basswood. 1mm basswood sheets were laser cut for topography and each building mass was hand chiseled to its current form. The model to the right was created for an HOA design review in a Las Vegas neighborhood. It was constructed from an existing revit model. The site was laser cut out of cork and the building masses and forms from basswood. A box was constructed to fit the model in a carry on sized box so someone could fly with it. The gifts below are examples of the handmade tokens that were given to fellow interns upon leaving at the end of their term. They had special significance to each person’s backgrounds and personalities.

PHOTOSHOP This section is a culmination of photoshop work that I have done in my last year of internships. All of these graphics were completed for separate marketing purposes to tell a story about how the building was renovated, constructed, or thought of. Each Site plan works with multiple layers to focus the viewer on the subject at hand, be it the context of the building, the location on a site or the part of the structure that was renovated.

ILLUSTRATOR A culmination of marketing and illustrator drawings that I did in my last year on Co-Op. Many of these drawings are an export from a 3D modeling program like Rhino, Revit or Sketchup and the linework is edited, colored and finished in Illustrator. The weather diagram was created to show wind, sun, and temperature ratings in Coco Point, Barbuda. The floorplans were created from a Revit to Illustrator export. The mountain illustration and icons were created for a presentation I did during my internship at Olson Kundig.

RENDERING An array of renderings mainly from Lumion and a few from VRAY and Enscape. All lumion renders were exports from sketchup or Revit. Upon each learning experience in Lumion I learned something new. About how to populate the scene with trees, import realistic people, use appropriate skies or create an aesthetically pleasing ambiance in a scene. These renderings range in style and project type, and were done at two of the firms I have worked at in the last two years.

REVIT / CAD All of these projects were produced in Revit. I have over 3 years of experience in Revit - through School, offices and my own personal work. Each of these drawings are unique in their own way, from the presentation floorplan above, the material elevations to the right, to the Photoshopped Site plan on the next spread. Any of these CD’s are available at a larger scale upon request. The drawings on the last couple of pages were created for charette books that helped clients visualize their spaces material pallet, site context and future space.

To operate the window wall, an approved user will unlock the gearbox with a key and then begin turning the handwheel. The upper transom will start to move first, enabling the user to vent the window without opening the main panel. After the transom has opened to a predetermined angle the main panel will begin to open. Continued rotation of the handwheel will open both transom and main panel to their fully open positions. If the operator releases the handwheel at any point during the opening or closing sequence, the window wall and drive mechanism will immediately stop and hold its position regardless of anticipated maximum wind conditions. An alternate mechanism design could create an operation sequence where the upper transom fully opens before the main window wall panel begins to move.

The fabrication and installation of the window wall will be performed per the General Conditions of the Contract and per applicable sections of the project specifications. The fabricator will assume delegated responsibility for all aspects of the window wall's final design and engineering for all included system components, as well as for operation, safety, structure, and finish. The fabricator will coordinate with the manufacturer of the storefront window system to verify that adequate support is provided by the operable window frames for the storefront system throughout all aspects of the operable window wall's movements. A report prepared by a licensed structural engineer will be submitted to demonstrate that all aspects of the window wall and its drive mechanism have been designed to accommodate the loads and service that they will experience for its operational lifetime. The fabricator will coordinate with the Architect to communicate structural impact of the door on the supporting building and to confirm compliance with the Architect's Design Intent. A written operation and maintenance manual and one-year minimum warranty will be submitted after project completion. Structural performance and engineering for the storefront system applied to the operable wall will be the delegated responsibility of the storefront system manufacturer and subcontractor.

All components will be fabricated in steel and finished with a paint coating or other finish as specified. No electrical power is required. The fabricator will fully assemble and test the window wall to ascertain proper functioning and operation prior to delivery to the jobsite using adequate additional weight to simulate the storefront window system during testing.

A revolving handwheel of approximately 24 inches diameter is used to operate a wall mounted drive station gearbox. The drive station mechanism will be designed to sequentially operate the upper transom window and main door. It will fully open both panels with 30 to 40 revolutions of the handwheel. The drive station is located adjacent to the window wall opening so that the operator has continuous line of sight observation of the window wall though out its range of motion and to monitor for potential safety conflicts and obstructions. One person should be able to comfortably operate the window wall through the full range of opening and closing. 100.3

The main window wall panel will move with a path best described as a lift and pivot, ending in a horizontal position when fully open, extending outward from the face of the building like a canopy. The maximum projection of the panel from the face of the building is to be determined. The transom will pivot around a horizontal axis located midway down from its top edge. The main panel requires a counterbalance weight that is guided on a wall mounted track. It will weigh approximately one half the weight of the main door panel and its main purpose is to offset the door's weight, making it possible to manually open the door. A system of cables and pulleys connects the counterbalance weight to the main door. An aluminum storefront window system provided and installed by others will be fastened to the exterior faces of the main window wall panel and upper transom vent.
