The Blues Of Life
Jodhpur the second largest city in the Indian state of Rajasthan which is known as the "Sun City" for the bright and sunny weather it enjoys all the year round. It is also referred to as the "Blue City" .But many of us wont know why it is said so. To understand why Jodhpur is known as "the blue city" one should wander away from the market places and new town, and head into the older quarters of Jodhpur. Here, under the centuries-old protection of Mehrangarh fort whose foundations were laid in 1459, on the orders of the city's founder Rao Jodha, many of the houses are painted blue, which, obviously explains why Jodhpur is known as "the blue city". This blue colour was associated closely with the Brahmins, India's priestly caste. In olden days the houses and properties of Brahmins were painted in blue as the mark of their priestly hood due to the calmness of this color. This area is now called Bramahpuri. But nowadays many others also paint there house with this magnificent colour. I have started my journey from Chand Pole, one of the many Gateways to the narrow streets of this magnificent Mohalla‌The Colony, which have still preserved the fragrance of old city even in this modern era. Just while entering the Mohalla a dog bit me from behined and I got shattered by this mishap. I thought of cancelling the shoot and coming back, but a part of my mind compelled me to continue, so I went on. Soon I met a man sitting with a helping smile who helped me to clean my wound. Another man even offered me to come to his terrace as it gives a magnificent view with the Mehrangarh Fort on the backdrop. The people were so friendly that I got connected with the aura of the city of blues and tried to capture the blues of life.
