Survey analysis.

The majority of my responses were from females, therefore I would aim my magazine more so to this gender. This could suggest that I should use colours throughout the magazine they prefer and would significantly change the titles of articles.

The target audience for my music magazine will be based around 16-18, I can also relate to this age group because I am of a similar age – therefore I can understand what they like and want.

Around half of my responses said they only brought magazines every so often, because they might not reliably purchase my magazine I might then produce it for online viewing, this would also be a better choice because this ages generation are more inclined to read it electronically.

Twelve of my 31 responses liked pop as their ‘number one’ music genre choice. By finding this out I’ve decided my magazine will be mainly focused on pop and chart music, but I might put some information around rock as that was a close second.

The most popular reason why my audience would wish to purchase a magazine would be if for the interview advertised on the front cover; therefore I will emphasize the special interview on my own magazine.

The highest response count I received was to have sections in my magazine with both unsigned and signed bands/solo artists, I would have to research further into who my target audience actually like therefore I could base the interviews/reviews around this information.

Mixmag was the most popular choice out of the range of different music magazines, being a very pop/dance type out of them all. I will research different issues and take ideas which I could incorporate into my own to appeal to the target audience.

Responses show that they preferred to have more pictures on the front cover, I take this to mean they would like either a poster-style where it is very simplistic, only having either the lead article or a pull quote – or that they’d like numerous pictures of what’s inside that issue with not much explanation or clue as to what they’re about until further read into.

For the colour scheme my target audience wanted to have a black and white image with a colour for text that would contrast highly. This is similar to those magazines I liked once I researched front covers.

Most of my responses said that they had never attended a gig, so I wouldn’t need to have gig reviews as such inside my magazine. Although for those that had I could suggest up and coming concerts of artists they’d possibly like.
