Our team, which consisted of members of the KC, Minneapolis and Rio de Janeiro office, proposed three schemes. Each focused on a different exterior intervention, with varying corresponding programmatic arrangements. I was involved in several different pieces of the project, including exterior design generation, concept diagramming, graphic design, urban context analysis and circulation studies.

In the fall of 2014 I became involved with BikeWalkKC, a nonprofit organization working to make Kansas City a safer and more accessible p l a c e t o w a l k , b i k e , l i v e , w o r k a n d p l a y. BOOTCYCLE

bike-thru

is

a

Copenha-

gen-based project that arose from the fusion of two cultures: the Danish bicycling

tradition

with

the

American

fast food tradition. Bringing the convenience of the American drive-thru to the bicycle lane, BOOTCYCLE allows for cyclists to quench their thirst or feed their hunger without going through the hassle of finding a parking spot, locking your bike, dismounting, and then remounting,

digging

for

your

keys,

and fighting traffic to get going again.

The concept was tested along Norrebrogade, one of the busiest cycling arteries in Copenhagen. I, along with colleagues from DIS, gave away hot dogs to the first 100 cyclists who passed b y. T h e e v e n t c r e a t e d a l o t o f e x c i t e ment about the idea and has inspired me to keep developing BOOTCYCLE into what will hopefully one day become an everyday experience on the bike lane.
