CHICAGO CLASSIC 2014 HIGHLIGHTS

The Chicago Classic competition was fierce this year with more than 800 competitors from across the country participating in the tournament at Harper College. Sensei DiPasquale says, “The Chicago Classic was the best tournament ISKC has had in many years.” This was due in large part to the generosity of our club members who selflessly donated their time to help set up, run, and break down the tournament. “It was exciting to see that the ISKC spirit of giving back is alive and well,” DiPasquale says. “We had so many new volunteers (students & parents) helping to set up the tournament the evening before, and helping the tournament run smoothly the day of. We could not hold these events without them.” We would like to express our gratitude to all the volunteers, referees, competitors, and family members who helped the tournament run so smoothly and efficiently. To view tournament results and photos, be sure to check out our website. Congrats to everyone on a job well done!

How Do The Tournaments Get Set-Up Each Time?

Well, that’s a great question! There is no doubt that each and every tournament, we have such generous volunteers that offer their Saturday evening to help set up before the next day’s tournament. Our volunteers consist of ISKC staff, current and past ISKC students and their families. Judy Mertel, Secretary of the Illinois Shotokan Booster Club, stated that “this year we saw an amazing number of new faces come to help out with set up for the Chicago Classic Tournament and we were so grateful! What would normally take 4+ hours to set up was finished in 2 hours. It was great to get to know new families within ISKC and see everyone working together with such positive attitudes.” ISKC is always looking for extra hands to help set up the tournaments or volunteers the day of the competition. No experience is rquired, just a smiling face! If you are interesed in helping with set up, or day of volunteering, please contact Judy at 847-359-0666 ext. 17.
