My
name is Elizabeth Leonard and I am a creative and motivatived Junior Interior Architect who has recently graduated from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. I hold a Bachelor of Fine Arts with a concentration in Interior Architecture. I am fresh out of college and ready to explore the possibilities in the field. I have worked on Commercial, Residential, and Product Design Projects. I am also interested in Historical Preservation. W hile studying at UNCG I have expanded my horizons with each project by experimenting with materials and software to further my design skills. I am determined to further my professional objectives by gaining accreditation with the NCIDQ, SEED, as well as Autodesk software, such as Revit and Autocad. I am hoping to find my niche within Interior Architecture. My experience so far has taught me that teamwork brings efficiency and quality to a project. I am entering the field excited and eager to learn more.

This design project for Revolution Mill in Greensboro, North Carolina. The objective was to create a brew pub which included designing the graphics, what food was ser ved, and the layout of the space. My focus was to allow the building’s age and character to guide my design decisions; the idea of elegance through graceful aging. The characteristics I focused on were: the monitor which overlooks the entirety of the building, the columns which support the building, and the windows which expose the interiors histor y and age. These unique pieces are individually beautiful but when united are magnificent. I did not change the characteristics of the space but worked to bring out their natural beauty. I selected furniture, finishes and fixtures which highlighted the buildings natural character.

This was a group project where we had to decide what would tie the community and UNCG together despite it’s movement into the Glenwood neighborhood. This market is a mixed use store that helps provide fresh food to the community as well as the students. This would create employment opportunities for the students and community, also a place to purchase food since the area is in a food desert. Once we decided on the concept we each took on pieces of the project. My role was to create the as-built within Revit and a 1/2”=1’ scale model.

This project was a site selection study for the International Programs Center for The University of North Carolina at Greensboro. In creating this proposal the class worked in individual groups specializing with a specific area of the project. My teamate and I focused on the site plan and model for the center. Using Rhino and a Laser Cutter we produced the topography of our final site for our hand made model.

For this project I had to create a mobile sales space for a client, Dyson, specifically their fans. Inspired by the magic bomb from the Origami figure I created a fully collapsable space which can fit in a 4’x4’x8’ box making it easy to travel. It was supposed to be used in Centenial Park in Atlanta, Georgia in the location shown at right.

This project was designed for The Living Well Community in Franklinville North Carolina. The house had to be below 500 square feet, environmentally friendly, and sustainable. I used the concept of fractals to design the layout of the space. A fractal is a self-similar set from mathematics. I used the idea of fractals to move from the large interior space into smaller private areas for the residents. I also experimented with straw bale construction techniques and their environmental benefits.

This project is a redesign of The Province Apartments in Greensboro North Carolina. This apartment had to be designed for two to four residents with a larger space where groups could hold meetings or study sessions. As a class we collaborated on measuring and locating electrical outlets, ventalation, light switches, etc. for the as-built. The traffic flow for so many people living in a small area was very important to this project. I focused on the central room which would act as a hub for the living space to create a smooth flow for the residents. I designed the space to draw the students into the main room for communication and community with a focal wooden floor, the circular shape of the walls, windows and counterspace. WHEN ADDING YOUR MEASUREMENTS IF YOU HAVE A DIFFERENT MEASUREMENT THAN ANOTHER PERSON ADD YOUR MEASUREMENT UNDERNEATH OR BESIDE. WE CAN DECIDE AS A CLASS WHICH IS ACCURATE

I began this project in order to gain a better understanding with Revit. This building was constructed in 1878 by Jule Gilmer Korner. The house was built to showcase his works. He was an interior and furniture designer, decorator, and a painter. The house was constantly changing over the years as his designs changed and he used it as a portfolio and catalog for his designs. This house is unique due to the fact that every doorway or window is unique. There are fifteen different fireplaces, the ceiling heights range from five to twenty-five feet and there are seven different levels arranged throughout the house. This house was never really completed because Jule always had a different design in mind. Jule even had fresh plans to continue the rennovations when he died in 1924.

Union Station is an old train station in Winston Salem, North Carolina. It was turned into a storage unit for the city, but there are plans for renovation to bring it back to what it once was. I worked with an AutoDesk program, Recap, to capture the space as a point cloud using LiDAR technology. With this program I was able to take measurements in areas where we would not have been able reach and capture the space in 3D. In Revit I have modeled and performed a digital restoration of the main lobby and the front exterior with an eye for extreme detail and accurate materials.
