INTRODUCTION1

1.1 WHAT IS WATERFRONT-

In general, a waterfront is the zone of interaction between urban developments and the water and a waterfront area is considered as a unique and irreplaceable resource.

Moreover, the waterfront is characterized as a place integrating land with water and having a natural attraction to people. In fact, the seashore and riverfront are the most attractive water features for human settlement and, in most countries the land in front of water is developed earlier than the inland areas. Waterfront development refers to any development in front of water and a

water body a river, lake, ocean, bay, creek or canal.

1.2 TYPES OF WATERFRONT-

Breen & Rigby (1996) assign developed waterfronts into six distinct groups1. commercial waterfronts

2. cultural, educational and environmental waterfronts 3. historic waterfronts

4. recreational waterfronts

5. residential waterfronts and

6. working waterfronts.

1.4 AIM

To Explore, Understand And Develop An Approach Toward Waterfront Of The City.

1.5 OBJECTIVES

• To provide a resting space away from the bustle of the city • Know about the parameters of waterfront development • Know about the lakefront activities and the function of lake.

• Identify current situation of lake for improve the connection of it with the other tourist destination

• Identify the key issues in the design and development of lakefront. • Perceive relation between water and surrounding context. • Create an identity of the city on its waterfront. • How the culture of city will be connected to the lakefront • To create a socio interactive space for the city

1.6 CONCERN

Jodhpur has many places of attraction for tourists and lake kaylana is also one from them. All tourist places have its identity in itself but there is no identity of lake kaylana than other places. • There are lack of such amenities. Current situation is not good of lakefront. • The lakes are very important not only for the purpose of the water supply but also for tourism sector. In order to attract tourists to the lake, infrastructures are required. • So my concern is to develop lake kaylana and provide an identity to it. So people and tourist when come to visit, they can spend more time and get an experience of natural attraction.
