Trinity delivers excellent research and translates this to industry through targeted relationships, Dr. Chris Keely, Senior Business Development Manager at TCD’s Offi ce of Corporate Partnership and Knowledge Exchange tells InBUSINESS.

Established in 1592, Trinity College Dublin, the University of Dublin, was modelled on the English universities of Oxford and Cambridge. It is Ireland’s oldest and most prestigious university and highly respected internationally.

“Trinity’s position as one of the world’s leading universities is defi ned by our research, scholarship, and capacity to address issues of global, societal and economic importance,” says Dr. Chris Keely, Senior Business Development Manager at TCD’s Offi ce of Corporate Partnership and Knowledge Exchange.

The college’s Office of Corporate Partnership and Knowledge Exchange (OCPKE) supports both industry engagement and the commercialisation of Trinity research. The office reaches out to the business community in order to develop partnerships which enable industry to benefit from quality teaching, research and infrastructure within Trinity.

Trinity has been heavily involved in the new innovation district area in the Grand Canal Docks, with one campus already located there. “Many mechanisms are already in place help industry engage successfully with our university—collaborative research agreements, licensing of intellectual property, investment in start-ups, staff exchange and student internship programmes can all provide real value to multinational and small-tomedium enterprises,” says Dr Keely.

“Our vision is to engage in research with the quality, intensity, depth, diversity, and openness that leads to fundamental breakthroughs and new understandings. Through our Research and Innovation Strategy, Trinity seeks to harness and maximise the societal and economic benefits from all newly generated ideas and technologies. Working with industry and other research organisations is key in fulfilling this ambition.”

Enterprise is a key partner, and Trinity College Dublin’s Office of Corporate Partnership & Knowledge Exchange is committed to supporting industry, having built up strong relationships with industry stakeholders and agencies. “We’ve found that a lot of our success to date has been based on having a good track record in developing basic research—Trinity is really about delivering excellent research and translating this to industry through targeted relationships,” states Dr Keely.
