Copyright What is Copyright?
Why is there a need for Copyright?
Copyright is the legal law which enables the creator/author of their original work to have exclusive rights over it. These works could be:
The copyright law has been abused greatly since the beginning of illegal downloading. Anyone today can get any movie or any music track for free by the use of filesharing sites. The film and music industry have been hugely affected by this. The has resulted in a huge loss financially. People prefer to sit down and download a movie at the comfort of thier own chair rather than go to cinema and watch it. The same goes with music, artist today hardly make money off record sales, instead they make it off concert tours, interviews, signings and appearances. So that’s why copyright is needed more than ever today, because there’s a massive risk that authentic and original work can be easily taken or immitated.
- Books - Advertisements - Technology - Movies - Music - Games - Publications Copyright is also intended as a way of authors to promote their work. It also benefits them financially as they get the profits for their creation. Today copyright is more important than when creating something original and possibly a threat for others to immitate.

Final Idea Pitch
To have a moving image advertisement or poster outside cinemas encouraging people to respect the copyright law and re-inforce them that coming to the cinema, watching a movie your are supporting the film makers and doing the right thing.
The idea is to have a short film that follows an individual that commits piracy who’s recently been caught and gone through the legal process of prosecution. The video will highlight the dangers of piracy and the importance of copyright. The film should make others aware of these crimes and reinforce that it’s the same as commiting any other crime.
A short film following an individual as he goes through the process of being caught and prosecuted for piracy. The video will follow the process of the legal action he has to take. The film should highlight the importance of copyright and why piracy is the same as commiting any other crime.
These are some posters i researched while looking at piracy and copyright infridgement. The first poster is a straight forward message that basically states if yourcaught with a camera in a cinema, your commiting an illegal crime. I really like the image, it goes along perfectly with the caption. This kind of poster can be useful if it was placed outside a cinema. That way it’s a good technique of preventing piracy. The second poster is again aimed at the same thing. The message of the poster is again straight forward. In terms of communication this aims at practically everyone of all age. The third image is off piracy campaign video on youtube. The video is very direct in terms of what it’s presenting. The video shows a user downloading content off the internet. The last poster is of a piracy campaign from an advertising agency in Milan, italy. There are other versions of different famous people such as Bob marley and James brown. The agency have designs these artists through using cd’s.
A short film that follows two people, one that participates in anti-piracy, going to watch films, buying original work. And the other one that takes part in piracy and illegal copyright. At the end have them discuss what they experienced in between each other socially.
