ON SCENE: Seniors Day in Aurora celebrates and honors local Chinese

HONORING AND CELEBRATING CHINESE SENIORS

On September 21, the Chinese seniors at Happy Living Adult Daycare in Aurora showcased their talents in celebration of Seniors Day at Regis Jesuit High School.

Seniors Day, known as the Double Ninth Festival, is celebrated on the ninth day of the ninth month of the lunar calendar. It is traditionally a day to celebrate, honor, and pay respect to the community’s seniors.

Performances included a tai chi demonstration, chorus songs, and several dances. Red envelopes were given to seniors over the age of 100.

Special guests included City of Aurora Mayor Mike Coffman and Englewood Judge Joe Jefferson.

The event was organized by Happy Living Adult Daycare, Denver Chinese Culture Center, and Colorado Asian Culture and Education Network.
