PLUM CREEK WETLAND CENTER == Lockhart, Texas
NOLAN | 06
Nestled on the green fields of Plum Creek Wetlands Preserve, the nature center is designed to not only journey through the still waters and tall grasslands of central Texas, but to also educate visitors of the many fauna and flora found in this spacious region. This center is sited to maintain and keep wildlife of the Guadalupe watershed at its best for future generations to enjoy and explore. The goal behind the proposal is to integrate the nature center into the wetland preserve with minimal impact, while providing flexible educational, and recreational opportunities for the visitors. By connecting each building to one another through the board walk and existing trails, visitors can experience different habitats and wildlife within the preserve when traveling to a different building. The proposal calls to protect and care for the habitat through LID and sustainable design that will benefit the property.
MASTER PLAN

The design of the wetland center connects the buildings to the outdoors through the boardwalk, visual, and experiential connections. The design utilizes screens and sliding doors, which allow for flexibility within the spaces and create layers within the design. The screens can be used for privacy, to block out the sun, or to define a space.. Furthermore, the design of the center aims to acknowledge water and to celebrate capturing, fi ltering, and returning clean water to the earth. This is done by being expressive with the gutters, rain-chains, and rain gardens throughout the site. 2620 AVENUE M1/2 Galveston, Texas

NOLAN | 18
This multifamily infill layout proposal addresses smart growth and affordability, by fitting 3 units onto the site and targeting a wide range of possible tenants. The duplex units are suitable for couples, roommates, a couple with a child, or even a single individual, while the unit facing the alley can house an individual or a couple. Two units are side by side and face Avenue M 1/2, while one unit faces the alley. This proposal also responds to the local vernacular by using a similar scale, roof form, and contemporary materials that are complementary to the buildings nearby. Lastly, the plans are designed to be resilient and efficient by considering the site orientation, using a core for plumbing, having clear circulation, and organizing openings and spaces in such a way as to optimize the environmental performance of the building. Each unit opens to a screened room to enhance the connection to outdoors, and each unit has access to a shared community seating nook and a small lawn that is located in between the duplex units and the unit above the garage.

GREEN GROCERY San Antonio, Texas
NOLAN | 30
When designing Green Grocery the goal was to respond to the vernacular in the area and take on the idea of a farmers market. Since the site is located near several bus stops, a couple of apartments, San Antonio College, and a hospital it is very walkable. The local pedestrian is the top priority in the design of the Green Grocery. Another strong influnce on the design was the the size of the site and ability to grow the produce there. The greenhouse on the site and the green spaces are used to not only grow food but to teach the youth about agriculture, having workshops inside. The crops will be used to sell, teach, and cook in the the restuarant.

PTERON ECOLOGY CENTER San Antonio, Texas Pteron was inspired by the annual migration of the monarch butterflies through San Antonio. The veins within the butterfly wings gives the wings strength, structure, and support. The ecology center is organized according to the nature of the veins in the monarch butterflies’ wings. The goal was to respond to the site by connecting the Ecology Center to the “ “ trail and “ “ on the site while addressing the program. NOLAN | 40
